I would add, My buddy put a 9mm in my DW Vigil 45ACP and one round cooked off! I tried again and the round slide down the barrel and fell on the floor. If I had to guess the round that did fire split but no damage to the firearm.
Yes, I have seen this happen at times. the 1911 is incredibly strong and well designed and they will generally hold up to mistakes like this. I would just check the barrel for any damage.
I came here to find a way to convert a 10rd 45acp extended mag into a 9mm extended mag, for range use and for the ecstatic look, with the welded bar in the 9mm mag to take up space I’m assuming the size of the springs from 45 to 9mm are different in width? I also understand the difference in measurement in the feed lips and follower I plan on just bending them into spec. What are your thoughts on this and if all fails would you guys ever consider making extended 9mm mags for the 1911 that hold more then 10 rounds? I’ve searched high and low and never found any company that makes extended mags in 9mm for the 1911. I really like the way the Wilson combat 10rd 45acp extended mag looks on my 1911 with all the “tactiCOOL” accessory as in rmr and surefire light, just wish someone made in in 9mm.
If I upgrade my internals and springs, I bought a Wilson Combat 20lb +P flat spring and 25lb hammer spring with full length guide rod. Will my AMT Hardballer frame be ok with my +P ammo as long as I upgrade all I need to as far as guts go?
Your AMT, with just a standard 20lb Spring should take +P loads all day long. Pretty much any 1911 will. The flat spring set-ups, I do not like these, again, bastard parts, Flat spring, different guide rod, different end cap. Seems to me that this complicates something that should be a very simple recoil spring set-up. In-addition, with all the standard spring weights available and in a standard configuration, I would just stay with a standard spring set-up Around the 20 LB area.
@@fusionfirearms thank you. I'm sitting with 3 flat springs because my original spring was bent and I needed a new one. I put the 24lb in and it doesn't feel much different, if at all. I'm now wondering why I spent hundreds on new parts. I suppose it's time to trade my pre64 30-30 for a project 1911 that needs love. I get what you mean by bastardized parts, but do you feel after all these years that there isn't a way to increase reliability. Then again if it ain't broke done fix it right lol. They're my favorite gun.
I'm sorry but there's exceptions to what you're saying. My RIA 1911 XTM 22magnum magazine will not fit into any other 1911 frames I've tried however my other 1911 magazines fit just fine in my XTM frame.
Yes, this is true. Because the 22 magnum and all .22 variants are not manufactured to a true 1911 form and cannot be due to the restrictions of it being a rim-fire. In addition to the magazine, you will also have many other bastard parts that are not standard in your RIA or any 1911 that is set-up for "rim-fire"
@@fusionfirearms absolutely I actually can't swap out much of anything for anything aside from externals like grip safety, hammer and so on. I just had to point that out lol thank you for response
I like Joes1911magmania on eBay for magazines now. They are 8 round .45 magazines that have the Tripp-Cobra Magazine design. Blued, stainless, polished stainless.sells them in batches of 5-25 at a time. There not pirated copy cats. They have their own patent number right on each magazine. They are flawless! Better than Wilson Combat and IMHObetter than Tripp-Cobra magazines as they cannot wear down. For the price of a single Wilson 47D you can get 5 of these. They are manufactured in the same plant as Kimber magazines in Yonkers NY, however are 10p% better than any Kimber Mag. They just use the same outer body. Has .45, 10 mm, 9mm, 9x21 Dillon, 38 Super -all the weird IPSC wild cats tha came out... some double stack versions I think... Joes1911magmania on eBay. Secret hidden industry secret.
@@fusionfirearms I now have 30 of these magazines. I’m tempted to sell off every Wilson magazine I have at fair market value and get a ton of these. Since I have roughly 7 of them for each pistol I could probably pave my driveway.
Nicely done. I'm new to 1911s and I finally decided to pick one up. I'm here doing my research on mags. Thank you for the quality video and content. 👍
Glad to help, thank you for joining in.
Outstanding video, I learned quite a bit. I own many 45 acp but only one 9mm, did not realize the body size was the same.
Glad we can be of help!
From Canada we thank you again for the great videos
Thanks for watching!

Cleaning magazines in the shop is not too bad. At the range, not fun.

Sounds like a fun project..:) Don't know anyone with one of these.
thank you Bob, do you ever deburr your mags? and is it wise.
In production generally not. But, on custom builds we buff the feed lips and followers.
Need to buy a 1911 book Ike Jerry Kuhnhausen

Very welcome, Thank you for joining in.
I'm looking at a fusion 1911 in 10mm. It it says made in NY I thought you were based out of Florida though?
Yes, about 8 years ago we relocated in the Great State of Florida and moved out of the pathetic state of NY

Can I put a 45 acp 15 rd inside of a 1911 9mm ?
Not clear what you mean by this.???

👍 thanks. What is the little tit in the middle of the follower plate for on some mags. Case recesses seem to snag on it.
