  • I was finally able to get behind the wheel of a Honda S2000, and all I can say is...I get it. This car was a pleasure to drive and was quite different from a lot of the sports cars I've driven before. I would even go so far as to say I enjoyed driving this more than the Porsche Cayman GT4 I drove just recently. I can see why so many people love this car.

    "Top down, the way this car was meant to be driven and experienced." AMEN
    I understand that not everyone is into roadsters, but thank god for the S2000 when it comes to those of us who are.

    I bought my S2K 19years ago . Still own it, it's the BOMB, comparing it to a new cheap sports and not finding much wrong with it just goes to show Honda was way ahead , let's see what people day about a FRS/BRZ in 20 years and see if it competes, short answer NO. it's a gem and will never be reproduced, I'd buy a FRS/BRZ if I didn't own a S2000. Nice review 😁

    Yeah … they are that much fun to own. As Shigeru Uehara stated long ago “Please take good care of your S2000, keep it by your side for long, and enjoy it from the bottom of your heart.”

    I DO NOT know ANY 4 cylinder engine in the WORLD, that sound that GOOD like the s2000's engine!
    No need for any intake mods.

    The sound of the K&N intake is nice in its own way, but the stock intake doesn’t get enough love in my opinion. It strikes a perfect balance between intake and exhaust sound and makes it sound like an F1 car in tunnels/overpasses.

    • @ImPlankinq
      @ImPlankinq Год назад +1

      Gutting the stock air box and covering the resonator gives you more sound as well and helps w the heat soak you get from aftermarket intakes

    I've owned some nice hydraulic racked cars rated highly for their steering feedback, E46 BMWs etc, and own an AP2 like this now. Just got out of it actually.
    The dampened steering feedback is actually a plus IMO, I am already feeling so much through the chassis as it is, I can rely more on the steering holding the line I set and concentrate on the way the suspension is loading up or unloading, pretty important on a short-ish wheelbase. Maybe someday I will pull the fuse for the EPS and see how unassisted steering feels.

    Nice review, spot on! Imho the steering is okay for an electric one, way better than most that came afterwards (especially BMW). Of course, classic hydraulic would have been nicer. What bothers me more is the brakes. In stock, they are absolutely not up to the task and need to be upgraded even for spirited road driving. And even with an upgrade, the brake pedal feel like kicking into a rubber ball.
    But all in all, this car is the absolute best you can get in this price range in terms of driving pleasure. This is absolutely a class of its own. I think you have to go into Porsche GT3 territory to find this pleasure again, for five times the price. Never going to sell my 08 AP1 (in Europe we got the AP1 facelift still with the F20C screamer instead of the AP2). This car simply is the real deal.

    • @jubbalandcars
      @jubbalandcars  2 года назад +2

      Stock pads were garbage and started cooking a little even after my uphill stint. I thought pad upgrade would fix but sounds like pedal feel still lacking. Perhaps BBK necessary

    • @Bleifuss88
      @Bleifuss88 2 года назад +1

      @@jubbalandcars Brake ducts are definitely needed and better pads, which is all still relatively reasonable priced. Of course, BBK solves many things, but leads to further necessary modifications like longer wheel studs, spacers due to the larger kit which in turn could mean that the fender needs to be widened. Will cost several grand and you nearly bought the car twice.

    That is technically not an "s2000". It is an "s2200" and exclusive to USA for the most part. The 9k redline is the only "true" s2000 as the engineers envisioned it to be. Great car nonetheless. And if you want to see what "raw" really feels like, drive an Ap1

      You know, I just test drove an AP2 and was underwhelmed. It had decent torque, but still nothing that would be enjoyable out of vtec. Then when I hit vtec, the motor sounded so coarse and didn’t have that lunatic high rev aspect that I was expecting. Did they delete balance shafts or something? Honestly I enjoyed my 8th gen SI engine more, but maybe because it was just a test drive.

    The C6 Z06 starts at just ~$5k more than a low-mile AP2, and feels like an S2000 turned up to 11. I think you'd like that a lot more.
    Besides that, there are several cars below $80k that I enjoy much more than the S2000: Mustang GT350, Audi R8 V8, C6 ZR1, 997 C2S.

    • @jubbalandcars
      @jubbalandcars  Год назад +2

      Need to try those other cars. 997 is great but didn’t love the base Carrera as much as I expected. The GT3 was amazing though. Audi R8 V10 was awesome but too heavy and understeer prone for my liking

    This is a good car but Way Overrated. Don't waste your time arguing with me cos I don't give a sh@t about anyone's comments online. I owned both the S2K and the E85 Z4. The S2K is no doubt a fun car and has great transmission box and many tuning capabilities and I loved it. But the low end torque is real. Engine blowing up is not uncommon too. And no one dares to compare this with the first generation E85 Z4 with a inline 6 engine. It now costs half the price of the S2K but can match the S2K in both looks and performance. It has a wider boot space, a roof that folds down properly, timeless simple interior and a soundtrack of a 6 cylinder. Don't come and tell me that the S2k is an all out race car unlike the BMW and give me that fast and furious horsesh#t. Any consumers out there with a tad common sense, look at the direction of the first generation Z4 if the S2K is too expensive for you. Watch the Japanese racing legend ranking the E85 Z4 next to the S2K as the best sports car
