Hey bro its Hex from RJM Performance, I'm glad you did this video, I've ran backup cams in other vehicles and it was a serious hassle mostly just the wiring running through the whole vehicle, I even tried remote backup (worked for a week) and had massive feedback. I was curious to see what you did with the Z mines the convertible and I looked not to long ago and also has grommets can feed wire into.... jus gonna wait to do it as I'm gonna put 2 cams back there, 1 for the backup on my deck, and the other for electronics mirror which will run all the time to have front and rear cams. Thanks for the vid man, would love to see more Z stuff :)
Great info. Might you have advice for how to run wiring in a roadster? any way to pass through from the trunk through the cabin up through the center console to attach to the rear of a new audio receiver?
Awesome video and very informative. After install, when reverse is engaged the monitor switched to a black screen without any error message. What could be the problem. Thanks for your help.
How is the camera hooked up to power and ground? Are the plugs on the camera tight? Is the camera plugged into the reverse camera input of the head unit?
Hi, I have the camera hooked to power, I have verified that the video cable is connected, and also connect the power wire to the reverse wire at the hu. I swapped out the camera with another camera and still same problem. The screen switches when reverse is engaged but no image.
No relay.. I ran the ground to the ground on the harness instead of a dedicated ground.. Could a poor ground cause this issue.. I assumed if the ground is bad, it wouldn't switch over when revered, correct?
Very informative video, I am copying some of your other modifications on my car. You explained everything clearly but I had a question about the red wire that gets connected to the reverse gear signal from the DVD player. Can I test that connection with a 12 volt test light or do I need a multimeter?

@@AnthonyJ350 I actually ended up figuring it out, for anyone else wondering, make sure to open the trunk and the convertible roof halfway (it wont hit the trunk at all). You can pretty easily unsnap the fabric covers and go thru that under the roof struts to make it come out by the weatherstripping near the passenger seats. it was pretty easy tbh!
Random question here.. Do you happen to know the differences between the vq35hr engine with regards to the vin? VIN B vs VIN A? Bro! I ran mine on driverside because less hassle and when you pull the 15" speaker you can access the hole and also feed it through to center console where theres 2 holes made for wire routing!
you are wrong about feeding the wire through the bottom, that is the way that every stereo company does it with 0 gauge wire and subwoofers,. if it was a bad idea they would all go up via the headliner with a 0 gauge wire but they dont. theres plenty of room in those plastic areas you just were lazy and didn't want to pull them all off.
It's just easier running it outside along the bottom. I work on emergency vehicles which have way more wire runs and go through way more abuse. And our power runs are always on the inside. We also disassemble the whole interior to make the runs possible.
@@AnthonyJ350 Mate. I took the plastic off near the headliner and in some places there is only 1mm clearance or less. You telling people there is "more room there" is pure fantasy. There is several INCHES of clearance along the bottom panels. near the seatbelt plastic cover and where the car routes the rear wiper fluid hoses. As I saw that I said this Anthony guy has no clue what he's talking about. Running a wire up via the headliner is about the dumbest way to do it.
@@Runescape. There's room under the carpet and run with factory wire. You can run camera wiring up high as well since there's wiring up there. Are you saying you run all your wiring on the outside of the vehicle?
@@AnthonyJ350 It's inside the vehicle. take the plastic trim off and you'll see where the factory washer fluid lines are ran, there is a sprayer on the back glass, the hose runs DOWN into the floor boards and past the seatbelt. there is a lot of room that way and every stereo installer I know uses that same path on the passenger side of the car.

Some do, you can also add guidelines if you have a head unit with that capability.

Good stuff thanks, out of curiosity I got a 05 convertible. I got water on lower passenger side of door panel, any idea? By speaker area
Are there drain tubes in the convertibles?
What length cable do you think is required for this run?
Most cameras will give you the wire you need. Typically 17 feet would be more than enough for a car this size.
I hit the wires installed for my z, no signal now and my z won't crank. Are these related?
