By the time of the 11th July 1921 Truce the IRA in military terms could be considered first rate light infantry. For anyone who has served in tbe military will recognise some established infantry tactics conducted by the IRA. The IRA would A) travel to and from POC( points of contact) with the enemy on foot. They literally marched miles. B) engage in CQB(close quarter battle) with enemy forces. C) organise ambushes and KZ(kill zones) against both enemy infantry and motorised infantry. D) Conduct sound E&E(escape and evade) manoeuvres after successful operations. E) restock and replenish the guerillas weapons and ammo from captured enemy sources.
Just watched the premiere.. excellent as always.. Serious point made by the narrator.. these important ambush sites .. as he said.. need to be marked.. so they can be seen and remembered.. Davy you walked where history was made., without that fine man alongside you.. this would not be known.. We are appreciating this series immensely.. we are awed by his efforts to keep the history.. and the culture.. alive.. well done mo chara🌹☘️💜💙
For anyone interested in British Army regiments operating in Co.Tipperary during the conflict the following were deployed in the county at some stage. Northamptonshire Reginent(some members committed rape in December 1920), Lincolnshire Regiment,Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry,Devonshire Regiment and Warwickshire Regiment. Also other elements of the Crown Forces operating in Co.Tipperary were regular RIC(Royal Irish Constabulary), Black & Tans and "B" Company Auxiliaries. Co.Tipperary is in the province of Munster which was placed under Martial Law.
Been off for a couple of days, my phone was at home and I am in the hospital...again I love all the Irish History I can get. Thank you, Davy you are awesome giving us all this fantastic history.
It's great you are recording history like this Davey. My 92year old Granuncle in west Clare(passed away 15 years)told me some war of independence action/ambush locations on the Ennis Kilrush Road that I can't find online anywhere. Keep up the good work.
I would highly recommend the book "Blood On The Banner" by Irish historian Padraig Og O' Ruairc which exclusively deals with Irish War of Independence in Co Clare. No doubt it will contain what you are looking for. Hope this is helpful.
Thanks John I will try it. I have a feeling that smaller actions with no casualties are probably lost to time. My Great grandfather had a revolver put in his mouth by a British officer because my gran uncle and grandad were playing near the road. Long story but it would definitely be lost to time if I wasn't told.
@@EireGenX Hi there.. Just to add to my previous post. Another book I would highly recommend would be "The Time of The Tans" - An Oral History of the War of Independence in Co.Clare" by Tomas Mac Conmara. Several IRA men were veterans of WW1. The following 3 veterans served with the Clare IRA including a decorated soldier.. Ignatius O' Neil (Irish Guards) commanded the ambush at Rineen in September 1920 ,Peter Vaughan(served with the US Army in WW1) and was also at Rineen. IRA man Joseph Clancy was awarded the DCM in WW1. Hope this is helpful.
Big bad tom Hennessy should show big bad Davy Holden some of the many big houses burned down in South Tipperary during the i fascinating irish revolution
Perhaps big bad Davy Holden and big bad Tom Hennessey could do a segment on the successful IRA ambush of the Thomastown since your both in South Tipperary which is renown in Ireland s war of independence with legendary figures such as Sean treacy Dan the Man breen dinny Lacey and Sean Hogan
Irish History with Davy and Tom again 🤗☘️😊
Tom is back again. No better man!

Most big ambush sites of the Irish War of Independence(including victories and defeats) are marked with a monument, memorial or statue.
Thank you Davy ❤ Another great video with You & Tom 🇮🇪 🙂
Thank you Sara 😊

The most loyal county in Ireland for Ireland
Ryan's the racecourse havt heard that in years
💚💚💚 from London
❤
Where Tipperary leads,Ireland follows
His accent is just like a Newfoundlander
No it’s like Irish
Newfoundlander is a mix of Scot’s and Irish
It's pure Tipperary.
The Newfoundland accent is quite similar to the south Tipperary, south Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford accents.
There's another IRA training ground on mainland UK. Its called Westminster
Does anyone know the story behind Eileen Biggs in Dromineer and who the perpetrators were.
I don’t know if I’m watching Billy from back home in Newfoundland or not.
question did the ira side with the nazis
Did you ever do any video on the pira
where would we be without religion and politics
