      I don't get you, on Valencia you say that you couldn't over take, people didn't attend the venue, it was basically boring but you twice said in 30 second it was send to see it go? What's your point?

    • @AlexZAfRo
      @AlexZAfRo  6 лет назад +1

      Tiziano Niero because of all the wasted time and effort of getting the track going. Plus it’s better than some of the current tracks

      Did you forget about Imola?

    • @caribstu
      @caribstu 5 лет назад

      Valencia deserved to be abandoned
      New Hochenheim is infinitely better than the old circuit. the only track Tilke got right
      Old Monza and Brooklands were death bowls
      Rheims rhymes with reams doesn't rhyme with rhymes
      Pnyongpong and Bhud were dire
      Baku is an absolute joke. Needs to go.
      Yas Marina needs reconfiguration, it does not work as it is.
      The old O Ring with Remus and the Bosch kurve was epic. Wonderful memories of standing on the entry to Rindt watching Villeneuve leading in the Ferrari
      Mont Juic was awesome would love to see that come back
      Fuji deserves a spot
      Imola is a great track but wouldn't work for modern F1 in much the same way Paul Ricard doesn't either.
      F1 GP tracks i've been to to watch F1 GP live starting with 1975 British GP
      Silverstone, Brands, Donnington
      Paul Ricard, Zolder, Zeltweg O-ring, Zandvort
      Spa
      Monza
      Adelaide
      Albert Park
      Interlagos

      Magny cours was actually a really well designed race track; the trouble was that the surface was billiard smooth so the tyres just never seemed to wear out. That's why it very often a race that relied on strategy; I.E. Schumacher's 4 stop win in 2004. The 1999, 2000 and 2002 races there were in my view pretty action packed.

    The Monza Oval is interesting to me because it hosted a race in which Formula 1 cars went head to head with Indy cars of the day. It occurred prior to the mid-engined cars took over both series and the Indy cars ran away and hid from the Formula 1 cars, particularly in the first year. No surprise really as they were designed for ovals with big Offenhauser engines. I wonder how the Indy cars would have fared on the Monza road course?

    I hope kayalami ( the old South Africa f1 track) gets put back in, a couple of years ago Porsche SA bought it and revitalized it. It is currently holding many types of races, from v8 super cars to f3000 to normal track days. ( I might be biased because it is literally 10 km from my house)
    Edit: also the track is brilliant, a few weeks ago I entered a track day there, it’s so much fun with 950bhp and awd from my r33 gtr.

St. Jovite and Mosport(still active)in Canada. The old Zandvoort circuit in Netherlands. Zeltweg and the old Osterreichring in Austria. Imola in Italy. Aintree in England. Interlagos in Brazil. Bremgarten in Switzerland.

      David Brackin I watched that event, here on RUclips, LoL. That was a great event, it was wonderful to see an F1 on the Bathurst track. It’s however sad that the incredibly strict safety regs, eliminate some beautiful tracks and makes some very boring tracks. I do understand the need for such regs, I just find saddening that more often then not, it makes for boring racing.

    There's a race track being built in Northern Ireland called Lake Torrent as far as I'm aware. It's about 3.6km long and is built to bring in world race events.. I doubt that it will ever host a F1 GP, even though the layout seems pretty interesting, but one can dream that there's always potential for new tracks around the world to become part of the F1 calendar.

    Parts of the Rouen-Essartes track are still used to this day, and Rheims (pronounced "reem" or "reems" with a soft s at the end) is being seriously looked at for being brought back into use, at least partly. Rheims, like Rouen-Essartes, was also a public road course as Spa-Francorchamps was and, most famously, the Le Mans-La Sarthe circuit still is and it was largely this reason that caused it to close. While the track was closed to the public for racing a number of towns and villages on the route were pretty much cut off, though the safety of the track, as a lot of the tracks at the time, was questionable with their being a lot of very large crashes over its history...

    Awesome. Love a good geeky F1 vid. I miss the old Hockenheim like you'd never believe and the German GP was always my favourite on the calender as I loved those long run-outs into the countryside. It was also an awesome track to play on the PS2....

  • @Pan3optic3on
    @Pan3optic3on 5 лет назад +18

    I hate to say it but Monaco is the most boring track on the calender, especially since the Azerbaijan GP came along. Probably better back in the day when the cars weren't as wide as the cars around today.
    Can't see why the Hockenheim track can't be remapped to the way it was. The Azerbaijan and Russian GP both have huge straights and are absolutely awesome tracks.
    I miss the San Marino GP.

    The Monza track they use today is essentially the original track - with some modifications. The banked sections were added in the 1950s - 30 years after the circuit first opened - and was used for only a few GPs. It's probably more famous these days because it was used in the 1966 film "Grand Prix".

    A couple years ago I visited the Estoril Circuit where Senna got his first ever victory in Formula One... it was amazing. Not abandoned but certainly in decadence now. It’s a very cool area of Portugal and the track layout was quite interesting (very similar to the the Catalunya’s). I presume the problem was it being too narrow for the modern f1 cars. It was great though back in the day...

    Great video and great memories there Alex. Especially for those of us who are a bit older. I don't know whether you're aware but the Adelaide GP circuit was revived in 1999 and continues to operate in a slightly shortened version to this day. It hosts the opening round of the Australian Supercar Championship, usually around the last week of February each year. The old Longford circuit in Tasmania used to host the Tasman Series for Formula 1 drivers and cars in the early to mid 1960s. That track has had a highway bypass built through the middle of it, but features like The Flying Mile and The Viaduct still exist.

    Valencia was a street track so most of it was a temporary but the purpose-build part is indeed pretty dilapidated.
    Seems like a beautiful city, actually visiting it in less than 2 weeks but this is surely not one of the more nice area's.

    Great video, really nice work. I live on the Channel Islands and every time I drive through France I mean to visit the old Reims buildings, must do it one year. However I have visited Monza on a weekday when it was so quiet you could walk the track and the banking section is unreal. You can't believe they would race there at such high speeds. Not an F1 circuit but one of my favorite old circuits to visit is Brooklands. An incredible place with amazing history. Unfortunately like you show with other tracks on your video the circuit is pretty bad in places and most of it was smashed to make way for car parks and offices. The one point I would make is a lot of the modern Grand Prix's drop of the calendar due to money. India, and Valencia were in terrible debt (the Indian race was in debt to the tune of millions of dollars and just couldn't recover) and due to the terrible mess they found themselves in they were unable to keep the races going. Most modern venues are unable to recoup the millions they spend building the place and then further millions paying the F1 organisers to hold a race as well. If what I read is to be believed, apart from Monaco every single race on the calendar loses money on running an F1 event.

      F1 would be cool at brands hatch in its current form, it would be cool to see although no overtaking would happen. Also they'd change all the run off areas and tarmac everything which would ruin it, which is why I don't like Silverstone.

  • @Pudgemountain
    @Pudgemountain 5 лет назад +1

    I think what makes most of us fond over these older circuits is mostly the fact alot of the older tracks had character whereas most tracks nowadays remind me of the concrete cookie cutter multipurpose stadiums in the states from the 60s-90s whereas the older circuits like Spa, Solitude and Old Hockenheim were the Jewel Box parks of before.
    I look at modern tracks and I generally see, endless runoff, chicanes, overtake zones and some tracks share the same features look at Yas Marina and COTA they both have a very tight left turn to a long straightaway, not all modern tracks are bad or horrible there are good ones like Singapore but most are too similar to my taste I understand safety being an issue but as for the overtakes,, this may be controversial but in my opinion FIA has turned what was once a form of art into something else.
    As for changing older tracks its a hit or miss Spa's redesign in the 80s was a hit whereas the 2002 Hockenheim and 2010 Silverstone are a miss.

    GT: Sport and Project Cars 2 should definitely add this one to the roster.....and F1 should return to the F1 Calender.

    Tracks I'd like to see formula one revisit:
    Watkins Glenn, the long-time home of the US Grand Prix. The teams didn't like the facilities, the jet-setters didn't like the lack of big city nightlife, but it was a classic track. And still in use for everything from club and vintage racing to NASCAR and Indy Cars.
    Die Nordschleif der Nurburgring. The full 14.7 mile track, not the decerebrate south circuit in use now. If any track could be called the proper place for a Formula One circuit, that's it. 178 corners, every kind of driving/cornering situation imaginable and a challenge for man and machine. It was abandoned as an F1 venue after the 1976 race, when Nikki Lauda was nearly killed in a fiery crash.

      I completely agree about Watkins Glen. The track produces incredible racing for IndyCar, Nascar, and IMSA. Would love to see the full 14.7 mile Nurburgring in use for F1, but the length would limit the amount of laps, which would cause fans attending to have a very limited amount of viewing the race. Would be great for tv viewing though

    The American Le Mans/IndyCar street circuit was once held here in Baltimore, MD for only 2012-14 but was soon discontinued. The problem was it's location in the downtown area (the busiest part at that) which caused a bottleneck of inconvenience for local business and the tourist altogether. The location was just bad but if it were held uptown (Druid Hill Park) which would have been the most ideal place while also give access to visitors to visit downtown 1.5 miles away -- adjacent to the I-83 freeway, it would have worked and still be held today. Maybe someday in the next decade.

      Agree. Aida , despite the low average speed was intressting. But, one concern is the two straight lines it has would be too short for today's f1 with DRS due to speed they reach and the fact that they coming from so far back with big speed differential too pass. But then again the curve leading to the back straight was very good to me as it really paid you back or it penalized you in acceleration or top speed.
