Same issue with mine, looked at this video as I couldn’t see what the issue was after looking at this found the fault weighing a couple of seconds and I can’t thank you enough bud 👍👍
Thanks very much for the video and excellent tips for replacing this pipe. Most DIY'rs dont have a cordless ratchet so just use a short ratchet with extended length 12 sided torx bits (triple square). Easy to drop bolts so your best friend is an extendable magnet or put something under the pipe to catch anything you drop. Bolts should be torqued up to 20kn but very difficult to get a torque wrench in there. The gaskets are worth replacing while you have it out and are not too expensive. Thanks again, your video saved me a packet and time.
Thanks to your video I have found the same fault on my 2018 T6 - how many more owners have been driving around for weeks in a German gas chamber - should have been recalled 😂
Replied yesterday with my first comment fitted new part today there was a big split underneath but what a job 4 hours you can’t see nothing big hands don’t help what a difference hopefully my fuel economy will increase thanks again
Hey :) i start to smell the fumes in cabin, did a quick search in youtube and.... pummmm i found you. The problem in my van is exactly the same pip. Big thanks from Portugal. Thanks for the video, save me time and money :)
Thank you so much!! This great video is a perfect guidance to do the job 👍👍 After watching I thought it must be also possible for me. And luckily there was absolutely no rust at the screws (although 80.000km). Mounting the pipe was even harder than dismounting it....
had the same problem, and video very helpful. Advise putting doubled aluminium foil below working area as very little space and needed mirrors to see the area. You're bound to drop at least one screw and the foil will catch it rather than be lost forever! should be a recall on this item as seems to be a common fault!
Got to love VW for using a mix of Allen, Torx and triple square fixings. When doing my camshaft, lifters and timing belt etc I had half my tools of all different sizes laid around.
Same thing has just happened to mine, i will attempt to tackle it myself now after watching this brilliant video, thanks for sharing, new part and gaskets and bolts £55 direct from VW :)
Check with VW befor doing it your self. I phoned to order one and they are replacing them for free as good will. Worth an ask I did and it's worked out for me.
I don't smell exhaust gas in the passenger cabin, but a P0401 "EGR A Flow Insufficient Detected" error appeared on my T6. Do you think this error could also be due to the intake pipe, or will it be something else? I looked at it, but I don't see any clear signs of a hole in the pipe
Great work contorting down into there. A question: Would it be worth grinding the replacement bolts shorter so they fit flush-er with only a millimetre or two protrusion out the back? (On other similar jobs)
I can't smell anything in the passenger compartment, but the vehicle makes a whispering noise on hills and sudden acceleration. Could this be the same problem?
Think i would have a word with vw customer services. the fact they have re designed the part shows they know it is a problem they should at least have supplied a new part at cost not hit you for 90 quid, have a go at them you may get some cash back.
I would put an M8 or M10 or whatever nut on the back of that for piece of mind casting is casting and it won't be as good once you've tapped it out plus it will cover the threads and if you put some copper slip on just in case you have to do this shitty job again!
Sounds good in theory, maybe if I had done it at the time but It would be really hard to get the rear nut on, hopefully it wont break again as long as I have the van😂 Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Looking at doing this myself, should I disconnect the battery? Or does that play havoc with the electrical system?
Cheers, great video 👍

No replaced it with a new one, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great work contorting down into there.

Yes unless you can pop a nut on the remaining thread, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Done loads of these pipes. VW should recall the lot to check and replace. It's a serious safety issue.
I agree, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Brilliant video, very helpful as I had the same problem.
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

The last time the van went to vw for a warranty job they had it 12 weeks, I avoid like the plague 😂 Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Should this not be a recall item, as potentially dangerous poisoning people fault a known fault?,The original part not fit for purpose.
it will be a warranty part, but the main dealers wait time is 6 weeks, quicker to replace myself, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
