Can it be used for shoulder surgery with sling? , also just use the tub faucet for wetting sponge?
Katie, good question. If you are currently restricted from showering due to shoulder surgery and are sponge bathing, if your toilet is close to the sink, we would recommend sitting there or if needed using a chair for now for ease. If you are able to shower or want to bath more thoroughly, yes you can use this transfer bench. We would recommend the addition of a hand held shower as well for improved safety. Hope this was helpful.
Take care and speedy recovery!

My wife just had heart surgery. Just picked a bench up today for use while she recovers. This video was very helpful, thank you.

I find this to be a very helpful video. I am a below the knee amputee and use a commode style shower bench without the bucket installed, I find it very useful to have the seat opening when washing myself.
Wow, how smart
Thank you very much. You gave me all of the information I needed.

We would use your first name only and would also like to know what state you are from. Please let us know if this would be ok. Thank you, AECorner.com
Adaptive Equipment Corner I live in Arizona. You are free to use my statement. The bench helps me maintain my independence. I am so grateful to own it.
Thank you!!
Thank you. I had not considered the height of my tube and I was going to purchase today. Now I have to measure the height so that I would know whether I would need an leg extender or not. Thanks very much for that.
Thank you for the kind words, Deirdre. We’re glad you found our video helpful. We have a link to the tub bench featured in the video. You can click on that link to get the specifications for the tub bench. ✌️❤️ AECorner.com

PT said he wanted me to use a bath bench. Not sure he heard me when I said I don't do showers, that I want something to help with bath, not shower. Already have handheld shower. This was helpful to show me what he was telling me he wanted.
Hi Linda, So glad our video was able to help you visualize what your PT was recommending. Just FYI check out our product review video on the Mangar Bathing Cushion. It’s great for people who prefer a bath over a shower. It’s kind of expensive but not as expensive as a walk-in tub 😉. Please stay safe!

I'm an occupational therapist. This is ADL training, didn't realize physical therapists gave instruction on adaptive equipment for ADLs?
Natalie D'Angelo, Thank you for your comment. Adaptive Equipment Corner is a labor of love that is continuously evolving. One of our goals is to hire an OT when we can offer a salary. Until then, we will continue to utilize Cindy’s 27 years of home health experience. As a fellow therapist we’re sure you can appreciate the team work it takes to provide rehab care to help our patients maintain their best ability to function.
Yes, my husband shattered his ankle. When he was finally able to use shower this is exactly what his OT did to show him how to get in and out with transtub. Thank all of you out there. 💞

I keep seeing commercials for walk in baths. This is genius because it's cheap, efficient and you don't have to sit naked in the cold while the bath fills
😊Michael, thank you for your comment!! Certainly something to consider. ✌🏻❤️ AECorner
I do find them helpful, but not so much with a well.
I have a dual system shower head and wand setup. I got it at Home Depot.
Hard Rock Master thanks for sharing. Sounds like you have a good setup. ✌🏻❤️AECcorner
@@AECorner Yes, the setup has a permanent shower head at the top, and the wand has place to dock it lower. I can also receive water from the wand in it's docked position.
Hard Rock Master Thanks for the recommendation. We’ve pinned it to the top of this post so others may benefit from your helpful comment! ✌️❤️AECorner
I set mine up backwards. Can I move the bar and back rest to the opposite side? Getting in and out is very hard.
GalCharlotte, thank you for your question. Yes, most of these can be set up from both sides. There should be holes to accept the handle on the other side. You can slide the back rest off and should be able to put it in from the other side as well. Hope this helps! ✌🏻❤️AECorner
@@AECorner nearly impossible while injured and alone. Thanks
I'm looking for just this. However, if I try to stand up by positioning my hands behind me, I won't make it. I need something I can hang on to in front or on the side.
Robin Spencer thank you for your comment. You may want to try a tub rail like the links that we have here. The thing you have to look at is available space. This would have to clamp on the tub on the back side of the bench, opposite to where your legs will come into the tub. Please take a look at both links because the bars run different directions. Of course we always suggest seeking advise from a local OT or PT for specific concerns. Hope this is helpful.

Very helpful for some but my mom can't lift herself, even the smallest things seem to be very hard for her .
She can't move around a lot .She is falls a lot .
She has dementia. I have been in a car accident with broken ribs and other stuff and haven't been able to help my sister in awhile. Everyone is very stressed . Mom lives with my sister ( her choice) . Her latest fall left her with a broken shoulder not to mention she just got over a nasty stomach virus and my sister said her whole family was sick . total chaos and I feel helpless .....sorry to vent ...I have been looking for alternatives in bathing and mobility options .
Edward Strain, we are really sorry to hear this. We would recommend that you contact your local Area Agency on Aging to see if your mom might qualify for any additional outside help. You can find your local agency at: www.eldercare.acl.gov or 1-800-667-1116
You can also check out an alternative to the general tub transfer bench here. This one assists with those individuals who are less mobile. ruclips.net/video/Xy6juluH1Oo/видео.html

Do you have a particular brand you recommend?
Stephanie Vandergriff, thank you for your question. The link in the comment section to this video to the Drive Medical Tub Transfer Bench amzn.to/2wgKXv8 is one I typically recommend due to the price and quality of the bench. Hope this was helpful. ✌🏻❤️AECorner
Does the height difference have to be set higher on the inside legs?
Olive McC thank you for your question. Typically the legs on the inside of the tub will need to be set at a shorter height than the outside legs. The main thing to make sure of is to have the seat level no matter what height adjustments you make to the legs. Each leg can at times be at different adjustments depending on how level the floor is and the shape of the back of the tub. Hope this helps. ✌🏻❤️ AECorner.com
Barely my name is William vials I'm going to be getting a shower a chair on Monday but I can't get it this weekend and I was wondering if you could tell me if it's safe to put a folding chair in the shower for the time being and if it's not safe I don't want to do it will you let me know please thank you God bless you
Will Viles, thank you for your question. I know taking a shower would probably make you feel good, but if you can hold out with a sponge bath until you get your shower chair, that would be your safest option. Hope this was helpful. Please stay safe! ✌🏻❤️AECorner.com

I have a bit of a problem with this video. When I upgraded from a four-wheeled walker to a wheelchair at the beginning of 2018 (I have secondary progressive multiple sclerosis), both occupational therapy and my physical therapist went to a great deal of trouble to teach me that the safest way to transfer between a wheelchair and almost any other seat is a side-to-side transfer. Using that approach, the user is shifting between the two with something to sit down on when my legs, arms, or equilibrium should fail in mid-move. Trying 90-degree and 180-degree turns has put me in the ER twice this year before I learned side-to-side.
I strongly suggest you include a side-to-side segment for wheelchair users, including an explanation that it is the preferable and far safer transfer method.
Personally, I'm tired of hittig my head on the tub or the tiles when I fall. My landlortd charges a ton when I hit them with my head and they have to be repaired.
Thank you for your comment. Yes, there are others ways to transfer depending on one’s level of mobility. It sounds as though you are using a sliding board. Great suggestion, we will consider making a series of sliding board videos for transfers to/from various surfaces. ✌🏻❤️ AECorner.com
this transfer bath bench can hold up to how much weight ?
Rock.
This particular one holds up to 300 lbs. There are bariatric ones that can hold up to 500. Make sure you check the weight capacity before ordering.
@@AECorner thanks
Happy to help,@@rocky7983 !
I can't seem to be able to remove the handles
Bono Bono, if you are speaking of a tub transfer bench, not all of these handles are removable. If the handle is removable, there should typically be some push pins near where the handle connects to the seat, which when pushed in should release it. The push pins typically look like what’s in the legs of a walker to adjust the height. It’s difficult to say, of course, without actually seeing it. Hope this helps!! ✌🏻❤️AECorner
How to take it apart after you don’t need it
Might we suggest donating it to a local health equipment lending closet when you’re done with it?
hi i just had hip replacement surgery and iv got on loan one of these transfer bench im about 80-90kg in weight my partner set it up but when i went to sit on the end to test it out the other end lifted up also it doesnt feel to sturdy is there any advice you could give me please?
It’s hard to accurately say without seeing the bench. Make sure that the bench seat is level. This means that the legs inside the tub will be shorter than the legs on the outside of the tub depending on the depth of your tub. Also, make sure the legs on the outside of the tub are firmly resting on the floor and that the frame of the bench isn’t teetering on the side of the tub. Do you have a tall tub? You should be able to back up to the bench and sit down without feeling like you’re going to tip over. Is it an older bench? If so, make sure all the parts are in proper working condition and have been connected correctly. If none of this helps send it back to the place you borrowed it from and get a different one. - AECorner
i think our tub is average height and where i loaned it from is through the occupational therapy department at one of our hospitals so i would like to think that everything from them is tested and is in working condition it does seem ok and the legs adjust fine i dont really know the age of it but it looks similar to yours but its a white one and looks wider
but thank you for repling so quickly i will get my partner to double check everything
If you’re getting home health maybe they could check it out. Good luck and please be safe! ✌️❤️AECorner
i did ring them and thy suggested to check out the videos on here gave my partner advice how to set it up but said if i dont feel safe then just to have washes at the sink
id rather be safe than damage my new hip once again thank you :)

This wull not work for a hemiplegic stroke survivor; well, not me anyway.
HALF Warrior 67, sorry to hear this. Yes, this may not work for everyone. If you haven’t already, we would suggest talking to your doctor about getting an OT referral to have your specific situation assessed for what might work best for you. Take care!
✌🏻❤️ AECorner.com
@@AECorner The reason is my house is a rental and the bathroom is not layed out \ constructed like most standard bathrooms these days. Unless I move out of this house to one with room for any added device, it wouldn’t even work for someone who is not hemiplegic.
@@HalfWarrior Totally get it. Here’s another solution but it’s kind of expensive:
amzn.to/38y3CpV
If this is the device you decide to go with make sure to measure carefully. Being a hygiene product we’re not sure they will let you return it if it doesn’t fit.
Cindy, I dissagree.
1st. The shower wand should be long & flexible (metal).
2nd. The showerhead holder should be located near the water valves. I'm saying this from experience.
A fidget hose is hard to handle and getting up when wet and soapy is dangerous.
If you agree let us know. Thanks
Rocky, thank you for your comment. Everyone’s situation and ability to obtain equipment varies. This type of shower head is one inexpensive option that I give my clients, having their caregiver assist or positioning the shower head down where it can be easily accessed by the individuals using it. There are many different options and individual circumstances; therefore we always recommend consultation with a local PT or OT. ✌🏻 ❤️ AECorner.com
