This ending is perfect. Eddie has a four digit IQ, it's obvious that he would simply fix the NZT side effects himself. And as for Carl, respect to his character for backing off and choosing to not fight a far superior opponent.

There is much debate and confusion over what Eddie Morra (played by Bradley Cooper) said in Mandarin to the Chinese waiter at the end of Limitless (2011). Apparently, Bradley Cooper's Mandarin is largely unintelligible to Mandarin speakers, but after studying many comments online, reviewing Chinese subtitles, and researching Mandarin vocabulary, it is becoming clear that Eddie Morra and the waiter were joking with each other using two plays on words. The problem is--due to cultural differences--people who understand Mandarin probably do not understand the full intent of the humorous exchange, and people who might understand the full intent of the exchange do not understand Mandarin. Of course, the poor Mandarin pronunciations are compounding the misunderstandings dramatically. The result is that no one--seemingly in the entire world--is getting the joke. Here is an approximation of what was most likely said at the end of Limitless. (Note to all the Mandarin speakers: This is not a verbatim translation, which would be awkward in English. This is an interpretation of Mandarin that native English speakers should be able to understand properly in context.) Eddie Morra: "I will have noodles, two scallion pancakes, and lobster with no MSG (weijing)." Chinese Waiter: "But a scarf (weijin) will protect your clothes." Eddie Morra: "But it won't help with my dirty hands." The first joke here is in the Mandarin pun. The Mandarin word for MSG (weijing) is similar to a Mandarin word for scarf (weijin), which could conceivably be used to describe a lobster bib. (Note: In America, people commonly wear bibs while eating lobsters to protect their clothes from all of the juices that shoot out when cracking open shellfish. Americans sometimes refuse to wear the lobster bibs, because the bibs look tacky.) When Morra asked to have lobster with no MSG, the waiter joked with him using a play on the words for MSG/scarf (weijing/weijin), explaining he should not refuse the scarf (lobster bib) because it will protect his clothes. Morra then joked the bib will do nothing for his dirty hands. This was a witty response to the waiter, but it has a deeper meaning. "Dirty hands" is a very common expression in English that insinuates one has figuratively gotten one's hands dirty from doing dirty deeds in the past. The irony here is that Morra was about to enter politics, and he had to do some dirty deeds in the past to rise to his level of success. Yes, Morra can eat his expensive dinner and enjoy his wonderful life, but he will be doing so with dirty hands. This joke revealed Morra was happy with his life but was not denying his considerable flaws and unfair advantages. If that is truly what was said between the Chinese waiter and Morra, it was a good note on which to end Limitless. It is very unfortunate the director, Neil Burger, did not force Bradley Cooper to practice speaking Mandarin phonetically until he spoke the words clearly. If properly executed, that final exchange could have been an excellent moment in the movie and a clever conclusion to an interesting plot.
Aside from the fact that it's entirely impossible for any sort of drug to do any of that. Partly because chemistry simply doesn't work that way, and partly because neurobiology doesn't work that way. They only way to achieve such results would have to be to artificially stimulate synaptic formation, which would be pure chaos, and would take time. You'd have to take a pill however often it would need to be taken, to maintain the effect, but you wouldn't see results for days. And when you did, you'd probably have seizures, not genius insight. The only way to really make any use of it if you could control the effects, would be to completely bypass the autonomic functions of the hindbrain, because otherwise you're still going to do exactly the same irrationally stupid crap everyone does, no matter how "smart" you are. Humans are not conscious creatures...nothing is. Humans are merely sentient, not sapient, and are physiologically incapable of being so. Consciousness is an illusion. We cannot choose anything. Maybe he still valued her, and wanted her to like him and value him, for that reason. But, yeah, it must have hurt when she left him. That's the thing that never made sense to me in the movie. Like you said Carl is powerful, ruthless, smart, ambitious... If HE shut down the NZT labs that means he had access to NZT. No way an ego maniac like that doesn't take the NZT thinking he can do the very thing Eddy did... which was manufacture a version that is side effect free. His ego alone wouldn't allow the possibility that he would be unable to do so.
Hadn't seen this in years. I always thought he made a new pill that he could take once and it lasted forever. In the movie he says that he is off NZT, but in the show she says that he still takes it, but he just has to take an inmunity shot to stay alive. So we can either assume: 1. He was lying to Carl and was still on the drug. Or 2. The show didnt care to do research lol.

It’s remarkable how NZT works and it’s effects on the brain. Eddie telling Carl about the accident indicates that he sees reality mathematically in the sense that everything is either a possibility or probability. The outcome of the accident was a high probability based on the details of the situation. So his brain acts like a supercomputer.
Carl was out of his league trying to threaten Eddie. You'd think a guy who's on NZT and has knowledge of both science and human psychology would know someone's gonna find out about the labs and close them, and try to blackmail him. Ffs he was running for senator. That alone should tell you how much power he's craving and the things he wants to do.
Having that much power over powerful people doesn't sound like a fun life. Anyone you ever cared about would be constantly in danger.... I'd be smart enough to do something else and live a quieter but still happy life.
I'm sure you could raise a chicken farm on a sparsely populated tropical island with your family and still keep the world leaders from doing anything to stupid. You could be smart enough for that.
i think that this is a natural order of things, when an individual has the ability and evolutionary advantages among his kin, he just unintentionally starts to move forward, making everything to achieve "power", which is represented in our world as money, influence and fame
@@timothyjaydyning3247 I bet his home life wouldn't be to happy. Everyone around you would feel slow and stupid. He can't stand still, fine... can anyone keep up? I really love that movie. Because I think, that our brain can do much more then we think. I would love to have the ability, people have with NZT in that movie. I look for the solution to be able to do the same, without NZT: I know - its possible.
You should really look up on how the brain works, because what you said is simply not possible like at all. We use 100% of our capacity regularly.. This whole movie is based on a myth which only exists because people can't be bothered to do some fact checking.
If you really want to know human potential study psychology. The simple answer is use the theory of evolution, we only have what we need to survive and we are only as “smart” as we need to be. We cannot surpass human limitations unless evolution takes an act on it because we need it to survive. This is why telekinesis and other myth stuff isn’t real.
hmm.. i think human brain never good as electronics devices & this movie over-act about brain ability. i believe human brain is works by needs. if needs is weak, so do brain..
I'm fifty steps ahead of you, I can see everything... I know you clicked that alternative ending and came here to see the better ending... But you already knew that.
The TV show could have been a good ending. During what essentially became the series finale, Eddie has gone beyond needing the Presidency and it's implied he's found something better than NZT
This is what i don't get about the TV series. It seems like first thing you want to do is to take down all the labs to make sure nobody else is making the drug. Maybe have one lab where you research it yourself, and someone who just makes it. The risk that someone else will take it and starts outsmarting you is too dangerous. It already has been shown that your starting intelligence matters, so what if a very young and talented researcher took it?
Honestly... I came here because I was reminded of the movie and I'm honestly shocked after reading the comments, knowing there's an alternate ending. I'm not gonna watch it that's for dame sure.
As much as I’d love to see a sequel, especially this long after, I know sequels almost always suck and it would detract from this film. Especially today with the trash happening in Hollywood today.

This movie is like if what people think of themselves when they're on cocaine came true. I can't watch a scene without my eyes rolling so far back in my head it hurts 😂
When I first saw this movie, I was very disappointed in Eddie. The guy has the power to truly rock the pillars of reality... And he decides to run for senator and be President? It wasn't until later that I realised that being president was probably just Stage 1 of the plan. Half the shit he wants to do hasn't even been conceived yet, nevermind deemed legal yet, so when he's President, it's all possible.

i always hated how he ended up back with the blonde chick, even though she dumped him TWICE, she made herself come off as if she was only there for the success and the money. he shouldve gotten someone new to teach her a lesson.
Lol maybe he has a plan to fuck her life up in the future, who knows
that is a good point..... but, maybe he stayed with her because she was always honest with him? They seemed to really say what they were thinking, to each other, even when it would hurt. Maybe he still valued her, and wanted her to like him and value him, for that reason. But, yeah, it must have hurt when she left him. Maybe he should use his superior intelligence to do something truly horrifying to her.
i didn't like that part at all, because there's no way she would've stayed with him after finding out about the drug and getting chased by an assassin
She wasn’t interested because he dragged her down, though independently successful. Now nzt has freed him, he is on the fast track to success
At the end she appears to slightly resent how far he has come and she's still the same..
In the words of the greatest freestyle rapper Harry Mack. "When I pop the pill I show the skill and you know that it's limitless!" The craziest thing I ever heard off the top.
Gotta respect Carl. He's achieved the kind of money, power, and ruthlessness that Eddie only achieved by using NZT.
pretty sure carl was using NZT at that point too, Eddy was just smarter than him.
@@dbrennan1523 His general health may have prevented him from using too often/or at all.
Hadn't seen this in years. I always thought he made a new pill that he could take once and it lasted forever. Like a one time nzt, no side effects, no coming down, just a never ending high, OR that he made one that had no side effects. I didn't realize he got off it it altogether and it made changes like that. Interesting. I'll stick with my way lol. Almost want to see a sequel, but I'm glad they left this alone. They should do that to more movies.
But there is a sequel?
@@coli1n no, not that I'm aware of, just saying if done right a sequel COULD be good. They made what looks like a shitty TV show out of it that didn't last long I don't think, but I have a feeling it's not worth the time.
@@erictalkington5674 It wasn't that bad. People generally don't believe it lived up to the movie but it wasn't a total wash like people like to make it sound.
@@coli1n indeed
I would've made a sustained release liquid injection form of NZT
So this is where the show takes off - Carl's factory is making a little and selling to some up and comers, then Eddie in power starts assembling a team to knock them off and gain re-control of the supply - interesting.
Will Marsden knowing the fact that he's on Permnanent NZT means alot
In the movie he says that he is off NZT, but in the show she says that he still takes it, but he just has to take an inmunity shot to stay alive. So we can either assume: 1. He was lying to Carl and was still on the drug. Or 2. The show didnt care to do research lol.
Zombie Prodigy
The show didn’t care to research. It’s a cash grab. That’s why they ended the movie here, this main character is too powerful
@@ZombieProdigyUS I'm glad you bought up that inconsistency, cause watching the show i was wondering that myself, how is he still on nzt when he specifically says he's off it in the movie ending?
@@ZombieProdigyUS I think that in the show he was lying to the protag of the show, who had never considered the possibility of permanently gaining the effects, which would make him free from Eddie and not dependent on him
Damn this ending is badass!
this feels like intellectually overpowered anime character moment
Talking to the waiter in the end with CC-s on
"Yo Bing Yahoo Yahoo agening waiting for a thief pursuing by overdone down for."
😂
3:15 Thats the look. The look of knowing when you're on top of the food chain, and you're not moving.
You just came to watch this after seeing the alternative ending. How did i know?
I'm always 1 step ahead of you.
I know you will put this comment here, 2 steps ahead of you
You my friend, are a genius :)
🤣🤣👍👍
You are good......
Genius
This is one of the most under rated films 10 out 10 watch it countless times
Her face is what makes this scene pure gold
I came here thinking this couldn’t have been that much better but holy fuck this is insanely better
But our world needs a President like someone like him to do great for the People. Seriously!!
I'm sure you could raise a chicken farm on a sparsely populated tropical island with your family and still keep the world leaders from doing anything to stupid. You could be smart enough for that.
@@Kruppt808 you do remember in the first part of the movie he said he needs to keep moving or he feels he is gonna explode
i think that this is a natural order of things, when an individual has the ability and evolutionary advantages among his kin, he just unintentionally starts to move forward, making everything to achieve "power", which is represented in our world as money, influence and fame
@@timothyjaydyning3247 I bet his home life wouldn't be to happy. Everyone around you would feel slow and stupid. He can't stand still, fine... can anyone keep up?
Would he need like 10 women to satisfy his energy, his intellect, his grasp of the world , would he even waste time with "lesser" people. Sort of a curse and a blessing.
Ignorance is bliss? :p
One of my favorite movies ever. Period. Bradly cooopers unique... Body language is quite literally perfect for eddie mora.
Senator Eddie Morra sees all og the future events and he dosent need the pill anymore
I just watched the "alternate" ending. Whoever 86'd that horror show should have gotten the Oscar for editing.
We all know this was the superior ending...
I really love that movie. Because I think, that our brain can do much more then we think. I would love to have the ability, people have with NZT in that movie. I look for the solution to be able to do the same, without NZT: I know - its possible.
You should really look up on how the
brain works, because what you said is simply not possible like at all.
We use 100% of our capacity regularly.. This whole movie is based on a myth which only exists because people can't be bothered to do some fact checking.
Orcawhale
Bullshit, there is more brain power than we’re told.
@@hectorcardenas2171 lmao nice I guess
If you really want to know human potential study psychology. The simple answer is use the theory of evolution, we only have what we need to survive and we are only as “smart” as we need to be. We cannot surpass human limitations unless evolution takes an act on it because we need it to survive. This is why telekinesis and other myth stuff isn’t real.
hmm.. i think human brain never good as electronics devices & this movie over-act about brain ability.
i believe human brain is works by needs. if needs is weak, so do brain..
I liked that he put the work in and was rewarded - no need for threats or war
I'm fifty steps ahead of you, I can see everything... I know you clicked that alternative ending and came here to see the better ending...
But you already knew that.
haha good guess, it is so much better, specially the part where he shows how he is fifty steps ahead.
The TV show could have been a good ending. During what essentially became the series finale, Eddie has gone beyond needing the Presidency and it's implied he's found something better than NZT
Yup lol
Right on the dot
Brilliant!
Probably the most satisfying ending to a movie ever.
They chose the perfect ending
Mwa...superb 👌🏽
What if the waiter said, "I'm from Alabama and don't speak Chinese."
Eddie was probably getting red pilled on conspiracy subreddits and studying phenology to properly deduce the waiters ability to speak Chinese lol
"That's what the drug does". You think your way out. He knew the guy spoke Chinese before he spoke..
I like it better than the alternate ending.
More showing than explaining..
the ost is underrated.
Carl Van Loon: "You Talkin' to Me?"
Awesome movie. Very creative.
Her face after he spoke to the waiter...😏😏
@gabe ortiz Otherwise you might lose your virginity.
"Your at it again, did you?"
“Don’t forget to vote”😆.👍
Theres a tv show that is basically the sequel
Probably the single time I've ever seen Deniro be outmaneuvered\told to f*** off and he KNOWS it and just leaves without having the last word. Now that's power!
1:01 de niro almost bringing that mob mentality out
There is no alternative ending..
This movie is like if what people think of themselves when they're on cocaine came true. I can't watch a scene without my eyes rolling so far back in my head it hurts 😂
This is the one and only ending for me .
1:54 me to my senior after moving to another role 😂😂😂
This needed a part 2 this movie
When I first saw this movie, I was very disappointed in Eddie. The guy has the power to truly rock the pillars of reality... And he decides to run for senator and be President? It wasn't until later that I realised that being president was probably just Stage 1 of the plan. Half the shit he wants to do hasn't even been conceived yet, nevermind deemed legal yet, so when he's President, it's all possible.
Turn on the subtitles when he speaks to the waiter:
"Domingo - yo Bing Yahoo Yahoo Yahoo ageing waiting for a fucking thief pursuing by overdone down for."
saw that
he literally could’ve became a SUPERVILLIAN if he wanted to at this point. But the pill does seem like it makes you make the BEST decision possible so maybe all he would do is good choices.
If You haven’t seen the tv show he pretty much is a villain in the show called limitless I recommend fully it go watch it
@@S0LITARY927he is not the villain from what I can remember
@@T_Time_Eventually he would of became one.
I mean, he IS running for Senate...seems like a supervillain arc to me 🤣
why is this guy not in DCEU or Marvel he would make a great entry
He's Rocket Racoon.
He’s been in the MCU for about 6 years, where you been?
Amadeus cho
He is, his name is Lex Luthor.
Oh, Hollywood happy endings 😊 The ending of the book is so dark and hopeless... But perfect as well
Hopefully gojo is like him. Several steps ahead.
RUclips recommendation is always 50 move ahead of you
Limitless 2 this fall. Can't wait
2:12 "Maybe we should cool off, talk again" "Maybe not", closes the door. That would be a much colder line
The pill burnt his brain and made him into a snob.
Imagine the waiter says... "I don't speak Mandarin"
Lol.
Reminds me of big bang theory 😂
Such a good movie
I am not even going to watch the alternate ending after seeing this one. I am satisfied.
"I see everything carl"....
Abbie Cornish?
This's automatically a 'Must Watch!'!
Great movie, I'd like to see a sequel.
1:15 When you have 10 perception in Fallout New Vegas.
Eddy can be so threatening
NZT not only enhances his intelligence but also so much more
Brian Finch use NZT for good, but i dont think he is as smart as eddy even with all the FBI with him
nzt only enhances what you have, the data already there and the capacity you have for learning more... Eddie has a capacity for retention, Brian has more capacity to extrapolate.
@@rjframe4410 9
Eddie was highly intelligent before NZT so it makes him into an absolute beast. Brian was of more average intelligence.
He did the Echo with his hand. Thats some sensory input he is having
one of my favorite all time movies
Loved this movie !!
The "What?" at the end was the perfect close.
This is the best ending
Great film!
the scene so funny because carl ain’t paying bro no mind her like “ you threatening me ? “ dude just keeps talking .😂
It really is a great movie, beginning to end.
His eyes moving like he's thinking and realizing something at the moment after Eddie touched his chest, diagnosed and told him 'but you already knew that'.
Because he realized he was flexed upon that he is only getting the free info he already knew and Eddie had no way to know. Eddie wanted to let him know he should fear what he knows and not telling him at all at that chat.
GREAT MOVIE, and the series was really good also.
What happend if he was recording all of he said?
Eddi didn't mention it's possiblility.
Benoker eddie is 50steps ahead of him as you heard.
He could predict an accident a block away before it happened. The guy can see a sniper 3,300 yards away and can react faster than bullet-speed. He knows if he’s being recorded or not lmao
This movie is one of my favorites
We need a sequel to this movie.
They tried with a TV show!!
I love this!!
I came here and after reading the comments I’m going to go watch the alternative ending
Obligatory comment about being glad they used this ending instead of the other one.
And he can manufacture his own stuff ❤
how do you remember how inspiring things are when you're depressed?
First time that I met Abbie Cornish was in May, I believe, though it might have been April, of 1999.
She accompanied my roommate and I when I caught a ride back to Clackamas.
I discussed, primarily, strains of cannabis.
Hello, Ms. Cornish.
Sorry that it took a while to remember that that was you.
Are you a p3d0ph1l3
So badass…
Haven't seen the movie, but love this scene. Wish they made Lex Luthor, Ra's al Ghul & Braniac like this. Up the ante.
This movie deserves a sequel
