Been wandering around the web for quite awhile. This is the first satisfactory solution for: Dual boot Win/Linux on separate UEFI drives while avoiding boot issues. Thanks!!!
Hi, so many vlogs on subject, I failed to go into installation activity, thanks to you I did started installation but failed on the last step.i guess, for the first time tried to go to Ubuntu instead of windows used for 25 years. SSD 128 GB windows on it 500 GB sata used for Ubuntu installation Can't share screen shot, but the error was Exit code 100, finish and system install fail Curtin command.
Hi, I want to install Ubuntu on a 115GB partition I created on my 1TB hard drive in Windows. The remaining 800GB is used for file storage. If I proceed with the installation, the EFI partition will be created after the 800GB partition. Is this acceptable, or does the EFI partition need to be at the beginning of the drive? If so, do I need to clear the entire 1TB disk?
after using your method, if i boot from the windows disk, will it boot into grub or straight into windows? and if i select the ubuntu disk, i have the option of going into grub, then booting into either windows or ubuntu? is that correct?
Correct. If you boot from the Windows disk it will boot straight into Windows. If you boot from the Ubuntu disk it will go into GRUB so you can boot either Windows or Ubuntu.
Since now we boot windows through grub, if we remove the second disk (the one we just installed Ubuntu/grub onto), can windows still launch normally from its own drive?
Yes, as long as you have the EFI boot entry for Windows and if you want to confirm you can go into the BIOS and you should still see a boot option for Windows.
Great video I think. Could I do this on a single SSD laptop dual booting linux mint and create the boot partition for linux along with a / and /home ? Do I need a swap partition? (32GB RAM)
This video should have a caution tag that it is not for Faint hearted or for Noobs. This is very scary video using Terminal to change the flags during installation. This is for advance users....a small mistake here and there and windows as well as ubuntu install is rendered useless....NOOBS watchout. ruclips.net/video/KWVte9WGxGE/видео.html.

In ubuntu 24, they provide an option for boot loader installation, do you think above steps are still needed when you have that option ?
Thank you so much! you are a legend !
You're welcome!
amazing! Thank you!
Should I turn off bitlocker? After the first restart, windows wanted my bitlocker recovery key. Will it ask for it everytime?

Does this work with Nobara that recuires secure boot disabled? W11 wont boot without it enabled.
After I installed Linux mint I was displayed the windows boot manager and not Linux mint directly had to boot from boot devices any suggestions?😢
I think you must go to your BIOS

Yes, you can have it before or after it doesn't matter.
Can I use this same method downloading Ubuntu into an External Hard Drive?

@@KMDTechthanks! can something similar be done when installing debian, freebsd or popos ?
Yes, something similar can be done with others as well.

Yes, you can use this on a single SSD and if you don't need a swap partition then that will be fine as you can always create swap later if needed.
@@KMDTechGreat. Thanks, saving and will be recommending this video.

Just follow the instructions it is not that hard and if you want to use Ubuntu you will have to use the command line.
