Cabview Lelystad - Zwolle 4K (DDZ) with Emergency Call

Today I've got a relatively short video; from Lelystad Centrum to Zwolle.
A beautiful part of the Netherlands with plenty of meadows.
On this sunny 2nd day of 2018 we're on our way with DDZ4 7519 (4 car doubledecker) as train 741.
After passing Dronten, we receive an emergency call coming from the train traffic controller.
Luckily not for my line, but because I'm in the same cell (I was near another railway line) I received this call as well.
There is some legislation when you receive an emergency call as a train driver:
1. When receiving an emergency call you slow down to a maximum speed of 40 km/h (or less when you think safety requires).
2. When you receive an emergency call while approaching a tunnel, you'll try to bring your train to a stand still before entering the tunnel.
3. When you've already entered the tunnel (or were not able to come to a stand still in front of a tunnel), you adjust your speed that makes you able to leave the tunnel. But make sure you're able to come to a stand still in case of danger.
In this case I had to slow down from 140 km/h to 40 km/h, listen to the announcement, conclude it was not for me (it was for a different line) and wait until the emergency call was out of the GSM-r before I could accelerate to 140 km/h again.

Man, the "close up" field of view and the low-to-the-track perspective really emphasize just how *fast* 140 kph is, in a way that no other videos really do. Thanks for the recording.
(Just imagine what 200 kph would look like when recorded like this!)
There are currently new Intercity trains being build for the Dutch Railways. They should be able to travel at 200 kph and will be running over the High Speed Line. I'm currently not trained to drive over the HSL (different safety system = ERTMS/ETCS), but I'm sure that's just a matter of time. So maybe I'll be able to produce video's with speeds up to 200 kph in the future! :)
Any idea if those new ones will also run 200 kph on the Hanzelijn, given that it's also ETCS equipped? Or, for that matter, what about Bijlmer-Utrecht? I heard it was being upgraded with ETCS, might 200 kph happen there in the future as well?
Possibly yes. But I believe both lines are currently equipped and tested for 160 kph on ETCS. Both lines are equipped with level 2, but both have a different interlocking system. ETCS on these 2 lines is turned off for regular train services and is only for testing.
In the end ETCS should replace the ATB system. But they don't expect to have the biggest part of the country up and running on ETCS by 2038. And ATB doesn't support speeds higher than 140 kph. So that's all going to take a really long while :)

Mooi video meester! alleen ik heb nog een kleine toevoeging op de regelgeving: De snelheid mag pas hernomen worden zodra de alarmoproep uit het schermpje verdwenen is én zodra de TRDL heeft aangegeven dat de snelheid hernomen mag worden. :-)
Heel scherp! Dat was altijd een mooi discussiepuntje in de opleiding. Want in mijn geval was het ook duidelijk dat het niet voor mijn baanvak was, maaaarrrrr regelgeving.. Je kunt 'em waarschijnlijk zelf wel aanvullen? :P
Haha, ik begrijp zeker wat je bedoelt! Zelf zit ik bijna aan het einde van de opleiding en dit is inderdaad ook bij mij nog weleens als discussiepuntje aan bod gekomen, net als snelheid hernemen in tunnels.. Al staat het volgens mij tegenwoordig wel duidelijker in het handboek omschreven hoe je moet handelen met een alarmoproep.
Ja! Klopt! Tijdens m'n praktijkexamen heb ik ook pas braaf snelheid hernomen zoals je dat zou doen in 't donker :P
Apart dat deze alarm voor bijna de hele regio wordt afgegeven en dat op km 80 terwijl je deze op km 28 ontving, en op een ander baanvak. P.S. Dit stukje spoor landschap lijkt bijna sprekend op Betuweroute...
Zelfs hemelsbreed zit er nog een aardige afstand tussen het punt waar ik was en het punt op het andere traject waar de melding voor was.
De Betuweroute zal ook wel een prettig stukje rijden zijn. Weinig bebouwing en veel natuur!
Which line got the call, Zwolle-Amersfoort? Zwolle-Kampen? What was the nature of the emergency?
Was the person speaking over the "radio" a recording from the ATB then? Or was it an actual human in dispatch?

Zwolle - Kampen is called "Het Kamperlijntje". Zwolle - Amersfoort is called "Veluwelijn".
The nature of the emergency was a suspicious person on or close to the railway line. The person you hear on the radio (GSM-R) was the train traffic controller. The ATB (onboard train safety system = only signal and speed related) has nothing to do with this at al, sorry for the misunderstanding.
When an emergency call is active you're not allowed to go any faster than 40 km/h. You have to be able to stop in time for anything blocking the line or being hazardous. Even though you heard it's not valid for you (a part of the line you've already passed or a different line nearby). You're also not allowed to enter a tunnel while the emergency call is active.
The reason behind that is that there can only be one emergency call active at a time and it's not possible to place a new one while there is an emergency call active. A new emergency could have happened without the ability to let other drivers know.

The brake application is manual. This was a full brake application, just one notch before putting it in emergency brake. It's bizarre how quick trains can slow down when you think about how much they weigh with only a minimum of contact between wheel and rail!
Though on some moments it's never quick enough. :)

Niet alleen daar snap ik niet hoe ze 't voor elkaar krijgen. Soms zit er graffiti op plaatsen waar je zelfs met een ladder amper bij kunt komen.

Ze doen het waarschijnlijk midden in de nacht als er bijna geen treinen meer rijden. Ik denk dat ze wel een ladder meenemen
