@@Lorelei869love Yes, there was an interview at a Comic Con, and one thing Tom mentioned was how Spongebob is Autistic. He doesn't say it's canon or whether it's intentional or not, but the fact he believes in Spongebob's autism is enough to connect the dots that align very well, even if the producers don't say anything about it.
I saw a similar video where someone was trying to see if Spongebob had autism. There was an episode where he plans a party for his friends, and he has a *scheduled list* for what to do at exactly what time. And when he gets locked out and sees everyone having fun, but misinterprets it as everyone being mad and not having a good time. It's hard to explain but he shows a few traits of autism in that episode

I think another piece of evidence he's autistic is when you look at his relationship to driving a boat. Why is he so enthusiastic to get a license if he gets so nervous and stressed out once he's behind the wheel? Is it because he wants to prove that he's a normal, independent adult? I saw one theory that said he doesn't actually want a license, and he likes the routine of going to boating school. Being on the spectrum myself, I can't think of anything more relatable.
Speaking of wanting to prove he's a normal, independent adult, that's also a major theme for Spongebob we can see play out in other ways. There's the whole Grandma's Kisses episode and the episode where he becomes normal. When Flats wants to harm SpongeBob and SpongeBob says there is so much in life he hasn't gotten to do, he imagines himself behind the desk at an office job.

The theory doesn't add up when you remember as soon as Squidward quit the Krusty Krab he became homeless, especially since in that same episode spongebob takes care of squidward. Also if Squidward was being paid to keep an eye on Spongebob, why would he want spongebob to go back to live with his parents when his pineapple is eaten by nematoads? Once spongebob goes back to his parents he wouldn't get paid, if anything he'd have invited spongebob to live with him for that money incentive
Yeah, my theory has always been that Mr. Krabs surprisingly pays SpongeBob and Squidward actual living wages, despite his rep for being a money pinching, greedy, cheapskate. And the only reason Squidward complains about his "low pay" at all is because he is constantly comparing himself to his rival, Squilliam who is a literal celebrity millionaire if not billionaire. So of course, Squidward is going to feel poor by comparison. However, it's clear that SpongeBob and Squidward are being paid enough to support their hobbies that IRL can actually get expensive when being really passionate. Like Squidward's love of painting, the number of self-portraits he owns, guy clearly goes through a lot of art supplies.

Thank you so much for mentioning how individualized ASD is and how different autistic people have different support needs. The stereotypes of autistic people that most tend to think of are non-verbal children who need help with everything, savants who are capable of everything except forming relationships, or ordinary people who are just "not trying hard enough not to be weird." This video does a good job of broaching the topic of support needs in autistic people from a very neutral angle, in which you show that spongebob has struggles that affect his daily life (the ones that stuck with me most were his issues when faced with a change in routine) and could benefit from some additional support, but you don't present that as something that's wrong with him or that needs to be "fixed". He's allowed to just be Spongebob. I don't personally think that Squidward is the best choice of caretaker, but I think Spongebob is most definitely on the spectrum (like me :3).
Bubble Buddy is actually a real Person. Spongebob also was not against Squidward to JOIN the Club. Just that he could not FIT in the Clubhouse since he and Patrick where stuck already. And Spongebobs House is a literal Pineapple. We even see it grow in an Episode. So the House was basically free.
Tentacle Acres kind of disproves this. Squidward attempted to literally leave forever.
Spongbob shows a lot of traits of a bunch of mental disabilities. I really relate to him because I have ocd and that's because ocd, adhd and autism have lots of similarities so lots of nerodivergent people relate to him

that may not be the reason. Squdville, where squidward moves away, he gets sad and loses his mind. so the episode ends with squidward moving his old house again. Maybe he is just scared of losing even this life. Yes, he is not too happy but he enjoys actually. He enjoys always beeing annoyed by spongebob, and not wants to stuck in a office-home paradox

Yeah, and that could be added to by what we see in the episode "Ugh!', where the snail was huge, even though snails appear much smaller in the normal episodes. It would be fun to investigate what could cause the sea creatures to grow so significantly, and whether or not it relates to their human-like sentience.

But what is the Theory here? We have seen quite a few Humans in the Show. And they where always "normal" sized. So everyone is just small. The only ones that are unusually small would be some of the Species that where shown to be around the size of the others even so they would normally be huge. Like Whales and Sharks
Before some...rather engaged individuals say that Spongebob can´t be autistic, I myself am autistic and think it is entirely possible for him to be autistic.
And even if not, there is nothing that speaks against having a theory that a fictional character is autistic.

I don't believe we can use the past era episodes as references to their families knowing each other. Those seem more like Spongebob daydreaming about things he has heard, read or watched about filling in the characters in his mind with people he knows in his day to day life. In the medival episode for example Sandy appears without a helmet and it's pretty unlikely the technology for mammals to migrate to Bikini Bottom would have existed at that point as well as the need for air still being there for her
This is an interesting theory... there are some flawed points, but overall cool.

This theory is actually so solid. My only comment is that I believe the theory that SpongeBob was adopted, but I still think you could work with this, actually. Maybe SpongeBob's parents died when he was young, and there was nobody able to take him, so Squidward's family helped find him a home. Since SpongeBob was the son of their family friend, they grew close with SpongeBob new parents and eventually the rest of his adopted family.
I also know there's stuff that disputes SpingeBob being adopted, like seeing him in his mom's womb, but I'm just gonna ignore that 💀
