  • Okay so i know i'm not the only one whos thought about this but could Spongebob's bubble blowing be him hitting the nic? As satire as that question might sound im 100% serious. This is the Spongebob bubble theory!

The idea of Spongebob's bubble blowing being an alternative for smoking takes the term "sea weed" to a whole 'nother level.

  • @MindSweptAway

Another thing to add: Steam from cars are usually replaced with bubbles in Spongebob

  • @jamesriley2594

SpongeBob could also be trying to quit smoking by blowing bubbles like some people do in real life and use it as a placebo to get rid of stress from life

There are also at least 2 scenes where Spongebob is literally smoking a pipe with bubbles coming out; one is from that one episode where Spongebob wants to prove that he's an adult (to his grandma)

  • @jjquasar232

With this theory in mind, the “bubble of popping boys” from shell city were just trying to help people, even though there methods were a bit extreme

Bubbles would actually be healthier than smoking, so I feel like this is a good thing

  • @HorrorOnReddit

The only thing that conflicts with this theory is the episode when everyone is driving the bubble cars

Somewhere I’ve seen somebody being addicted to baby pacifiers, it also calmed them down similar to spongebob. Maybe it’s just a habit he developed since he was a child.

  • @geckoo9190

I think that this is one of those cases of a gray area, maybe bubble blowing some times is just bubble blowing and other times its a representation for smoking, all depends on what the writer wants to say on that episode.

You‘re overthinking it. Spongebob just LOOOOOVES blowing bubbles and you cant convince me that he’s smoking

  • @MugiwaraZero

What does this mean for bubble buddy tho?

  • @zoesusername

also the phrasing of "can i bubble" is literally just-

  • @PhilBo-fp9mz

I think its intentional, he literally saus “Mind if I bubble?” literally sayin “mind if I smoke?”

  • @EinsamPibroch278

It would be better-worded that Bubble Blowing is a metaphor for Smoking.

  • @Whyamiheredotnet

I’m going to be honest I actually see this as a reference to smoking. As someone who smokes myself I find myself heading outside of social events to smoke or when I want to just relax and the amount of times SpongeBob will blow bubbles to relax or for a joy thing I can see them substituting it as cigarettes. Especially with it being a kids show with subtle adult humor in it. Kids may think it’s a fun hobby for SpongeBob while adults can see it as cigarettes

  • @andrewcheng1948

you do know there are more coping mechanisms than smoking, right?

  • @TheAvocadoCultist

How would you explain the movie where blowing bubbles is seen as something for children?

  • @MugiwaraZero

No idea what the fuck this is but count me in

  • @Xsar1942

Sea weed, sea bubbles it makes sense. Theory VALID

  • @username5155

Okay, but can we just talk about that time Spongebob made bubble cars the standard mode of transportation? Did he just get everyone super high or something?
