  • Here we have another criminally underrated album, in the form of Napalm Death's 5th full-length album, "Fear, Emptiness, Despair" from 1994. Released during a complicated time within the band's history and within the Heavy music world, this gem is all too often overlooked and underrated.
What are your thoughts on this unique album and excellent band?
    Let me hear you!

Agreed it's a passed over album. I've seriously been a huge Napalm Death fan for 35 years. I could listen through the entire collection and feel so many emotions. They challenge intellect and beat you over the head with a sonic hammer. Thanks for the video and best to your community.

It sure is, but I have been shocked by just how much love fans seem to have for this album! A lot of positive responses here! That is awesome that you have been with Napalm Death all these years, you are a true lifer my friend🤘
Napalm Death are indeed such a unique band, they really are in a league of their own! Thank you so much for the support! 🤘

I first heard Napalm Death back in 1988, on AM radio. Blew my mind. I love Fear, Emptiness, Despair.

That is awesome! Hearing it back then when it all started, very cool indeed! 🤘

@nononsensemetalreviews thanks. I was 11, and the vocals drew me in. I had already been doing monster vocals for a couple years, but never thought there would be music like that.

Funny thing, whenever I listen to early Fear Factory I feel like their biggest inspiration was this album. I didn't like it at first, I loved Utopia Banished since day one (still do) and then 'F,E,D' came out and it was so different, much harder to listen to, no more hits like 'The World Keeps Turning', only songs with complicated rhythms and definitely too much going on in them :D

Napalm Death are a pioneering and hugely influential band, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had influenced Fear Factory along the way! Certainly with this album, it is hugely groovy and does almost have an industrial tone. I love Utopia Banished too, that is a monster of an album, but I have a lot of love for this one too (as you may be able to tell), although I appreciate that this isn't for every ND fan 🤘Thank you for watching!

Have recently been really getting into the Mentally Murdered EP - which came after From Enslavement (IMO their best album) and is the final recording by the classic lineup of Lee Dorian, Bill Steer, Shane Embury and Mick Harris. Absolutely brutal EP and some of their best riffs ever (like Walls of Confinement)

Mentally Murdered is a legendary EP! An excellent line-up producing some very ahead of it's time material! I have the "Death By Manipulation" EP compilation which contains those tracks and it is one of my favourite compilations for sure! In fact, that release featured in the "My Favourite Compilations" series I did a while back 🤘

definitly one of the best albums of Napalm death here my favorite ones :
1.Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism
    2.Harmony Corruption
3.The Code Is Red… Long Live the Code
    4. Fear, Emptiness, Despair
    5. Smear Campaign

Nice choices! I haven't tackled a ranking of Napalm Death's catalogue yet, but Harmony Corruption, Utopia Banished and Order Of The Leech would be up there for me 🤘

🔥\m/ Truly their peak album, it's feels really mature in comparing to early stuff, also their most technical one in terms of musicanship, albums after lost this heavy guitar tone and dismal atmosphere to more primitive groove style, and albums after groove era sounds like they just replaying the same album without changin formula, pretty decent grind but nothing unique since FED. Would say it's not any worse than FEtO and Harmony Corruption

Fear, Emptiness, Despair is a very unique album, it stands out as creative and transitional masterpiece! I do very much enjoy earlier and later Napalm albums, but I can understand why not all fans would feel the same way. Besides, there is a lot of cracking Napalm Death albums to choose from!
      Thank you for watching! 🤘

i'm not gonna say that I love "Diatribes", but I really do vibe with some songs on it and I like it the way it is. I think that would be a good album to introduce for newwer audiences, maybe (?), but honestly, "Fear, Emptiness, Despair..." will always be my favorite in their discography. Like you said, it's a chalanging record and also has the better riffs from their 90's period, their criativity was beyond.

    • @nononsensemetalreviews
      @nononsensemetalreviews  2 месяца назад +1

I think that Diatribes has it's moments, and in fact the tracks from the album that feature on the "Bootlegged In Japan" album sound pretty killer in their live form that's for sure! I think you are onto something there though, newer audiences and fans of more accessible Nu and Groove Metal would likely appreciate Diatribes more than fans of the more Death or Grind orientated Napalm albums....
Fear, Emptiness, Despair is a marvelous album for sure and it is great to hear the album receiving so much love and appreciation 🤘

@@nononsensemetalreviews yeah, actually I do remember that in my teenage years when I've listened to that record I was into Groove Metal at the time, so I must believe that this might be the reason that I've liked "Fear [...]" that much. That "Bootlegged in Japan" is also a great live record.

    • @nononsensemetalreviews

@mauriciosilva1145 I think the Groove style is definitely easier to follow and understand for newer listeners of Metal definitely. Napalm used and continue to use Groove elements very effectively!
Absolutely, "Bootlegged..." is a killer live album, I love it! 🤘

Napalm Death are fantastic band .. defo give this album another go . I think this is a experimental album for the band at the time there the death metal sounds but also the Grindcore and grove sound in there tracks.

Love Napalm, but this and the next album are my least favourite from the 90s. The two after those are amazing though. Opinions are subject to change of course.

Atleast we agree that Diatribes is our least favourite Napalm album... haha! Words From The Exit Wound and Inside The Torn Apart are both great albums as you say, also very underrated! To be fair, Napalm are such a great band with so many killer albums, ranking them is a serious challenge! 🤘
