Bands You NEED To Hear! Ep:70 Sijjin (Thrash/ Death Metal) [FFO Morbid Angel, Gorguts & Obituary]

Here it is! It's that time of year, where once again we Metalheads relish the challenge of compiling our "Top albums" of the year lists, and then debating and questioning our choices for the months afterwards. Hailing from Germany, Venenum may not be the most prolific band for releases, but the 2 releases that they have crafted since 2008 are of exceptional quality. Second album from 1988, "From Enslavement To Obliteration", goes Head-To-Head with third full-length, "Harmony Corruption" from 1990. This is not a case of "which album is better?", but a debate of "which album do you prefer?". So, let me hear you! @napalmdea...

Today's band you NEED to hear, hail from Derby, UK, and offer up some of the finest Death-Thrash around. Enjoyable list. Some great stuff I hadn't picked up. Not sure about the new Saxon tho'. Been listening to them since 1980, and it just felt average. Ditto Rotting Christ, felt this was their weakest, most repetitive record yet. Hadn't listened to Rage since Perfect Man - great recommendation to reawaken my interest in them. 200 Stab Wounds and the most recent Fleshgod are truly awesome. (And greetings from just down the road!)

It offered NOTHING,unlike the previous amazing album. It was a weird mix of blackened trip hop with some ambient. It didn't have any raw aggression at all. It s an OK album, but it s not metal. Love some Greek black metal, never checked out Suicidal Angels as I don't delve into thrash to often. I've bought more than I've listened to this year and neglected spinning a lot of 2024 releases, Skeletal Remains, Marduk, Inquisition, Necrophobic, Spectral Wound, Tsjuder, Kvaen to name just a few. The price stops me buying a lot of stuff on release. I'll have to check out the new Infernal Sea. Haven't bought any 2024 heavy metal releases but I know Judas Priest has had a lot of praise for their album. You got some great black Friday deals. I'm thinking I'm going to see a lot of lists where I haven't listened to many of the choices as I haven't listened to any of these. I'm going to have to get the new Saxon just for some Brian Blessed! I will pick up Rotting Christ at some point especially as it's been touted as their best since Theogonia. Definitely a stacked year of metal 🍻🤘🏻

    • @nononsensemetalreviews

I'd definitely recommend checking out Suicidal Angels, they do Thrash and they do it well! I have had a similar issue this year, the cost of physicals is just ridiculous these days, it is difficult to justify and makes supporting bands a challenge. There are a lot of releases that seem to be scoring high positions in a lot of "top album" lists that I wont purchase based on price. Definitely pick up the new Saxon and Rotting Christ albums at least, they are incredible! It has been such a stacked year for Metal, here's hoping 2025 is just as heavy! 🤘

I am largely in alignment with you on this one, I see the two as quite different, both benchmarks but different subgenres. Like you I struggled with FETO initially, but saw Napalm live for the first time shortly after, and it all clicked for me then. This was back in '89, I was lucky enough to see them on the Grindcrusher tour with Bolt Thrower, Carcass and Morbid Angel. I have seen Napalm a few times since, and living in New Zealand still get to see them occasionally. If they tour try get to see them, they are totally unique, authentic and crushing live. I enjoy a variety of Napalm albums through the ages, and they are more than holding there own as they mature, which very few bands can say they do. All the best Cheers Colin

Wow that is incredible! The Grindcrusher tour is something of legend! I can imagine that that was quite a show! FETO and Harmony... are very different albums and both very important as you say. I hope to be able to catch ND live one day, I'm sure I'll get my chance! Thanks for the support, Colin! 🤘

15:05 - "Malicious intent" is NOT a socio-political song. The lyrics for that one was written by Shane Embury, who rarely takes on political matters (contrary to Barney). He mostly writes about personal stuff, like his own feelings, way of living, lowpoint moments, depression etc. "Malicious intent" is about broke, failed relationship/friendship between two individuals. It has nothing to do with politics.

Cause Of Death is my favorite Obituary album and the album that really got me into the band! Infected, Chopped in half, Find the Arise, and the title track are probably my favorites. That Celtic Frost cover is pretty good too! Also that album cover is just iconic.

Also great t-shirt! Hails from Sweden! Idid recently a little printed zine called Disciples that focus only on new young Swedish metal bands and Eternal Evil is one of the bands interviewed. Sold by the label Jaw Breaker.
