Oh gosh that's horrible. So sorry to hear that. Can you still watch the episode or do you skip it like I do? I lost my mother 2 years ago and it brings too much sadness for me.

I saw this first before my mother died, but then the next time after she died. For me it was extremely emotional, but cathartic.

Whenever a new reactor starts watching Buffy, I like to give them a friendly warning, by telling them to always have tissues on hand. In the beginning, it's so easy to get lulled in by the campiness and the humor. Still, past Buffy's fear of dying in season 1 and even Miss Calendar's death in season 2, it's still hard to see just how heart breaking this show can get. It is worth it, but it is also so hard. When you get into these later seasons, you can genuinely go through the stages of grief over a beloved characters death, and I've seen many a reactor do so.
Love the show, but definitely keep those tissues on hand at all times.

When it first aired, it was shocking to see Joyce be gone like that. It was really sad. I cried.
Years later, in April 2021 (eleven days before my birthday) I understood that pain all too well. I lost my mother as well. She was in hospice care and I was her caregiver. She was ill and we knew the day would come when she would no longer be here with us. I just didn't expect it the day that it happened. And being there to witness that was heartbreaking.
I've tried seeing this episode with different reactors and it always ends up with me sobbing like a baby just thinking about my mother. Even right now, typing this out, has me with one tear running down my face.
I will definitely hit that Like button for you Dakara cuz you're a great reactor. But I can't bring myself to watch and be reminded of the day my sisters and I lost our mother. It's brings in too much sadness for me.

The scenes actually hit me harder now than before, because now I know the lose first hand.

After the end of 5x15 we had a whole week to prepare ourselves for "The Body". I believe that was done on purpose so that "The Body" would not be the "Joyce dies" episode but rather the "this is how the characters reacted to Joyce dying" episode. The audience had the time to recover from that initial shock.

Joss has said in interviews how he angonised over whether to put the Mommy scene at the end of 5x15 or not, but eventually decided to do it that way, because he didn't want viewers going into 5x16 blind. On balance, it was probably the right call for that reason, though it does have the downside that 5x15, which is a great episode on its own merits, will forever be overshadowed by that cliffhanger.

Dakara, you, out of all the other reactors I’ve watched, had the BEST reaction to the end of “I was made to love you.” THE BEST.

😊 it is both a beautiful and very sad episode at the same time. It made me cry 😭😭 when it came out all those years ago 😭😭😭. What makes it even more remarkable is all the trauma behind the scenes that the actors endured because of Joss Whedon's outrageous treatment of the actors.☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ PS would you ever consider doing music reactions or classic movie reactions from the Golden Age of Hollywood? Thank you for all you do 🙏🙏 With Respect Always Brant Heavner ❤❤❤

Supernatural made you say I hate this show nearly every week 😂 Buffy made you say it once, that’s not a bad ratio if you think about it 😀
