Additional information regarding the red felt: (Curiosity of Gary G.)
Red felt inserts are original & more common to 1966 & 1967 models because that's when Zippo actually decided to stop using white felt & started putting what they had left into production models. Red felt goes back to around 1960 from what I've seen. I've had several lighters from

Funny story. I wanted a red felt insert for my collection, and just the insert was for auction on ebay. I was bidding on that, and in the final few hours I recieved another zippo I bought on ebay here in Australia. Its a 65 with a USN logo on it. I opened the lighter as I was watching the auction and to my disbelief it had a near perfect red felt insert, not pictured on the listing. That lighter, complete, cost me only $11. Needless to say, I lost the auction 😅

Sweet find. I've only stumbled upon two with red felt for my collection. Both are mid/late 1960s. Great video as well✌

Did you notice it before you bought? Or not until you got home?

Before, It was only 10 bucks and just naturally I take the lighter apart anyway. If it wasn’t a red felt I’d probably just leave it since it was in such “poor” condition.

Hey love your videos have a quick question my friend has a zippo from WW2 with original patent all steel no black crackle paint 3 barrel hinge and cam is just about perfect , any idea on what the value is or how to date it ? I'm guessing it's 1944 but I'm not sure, It's engraved with his uncle's gi number and name and has his tour in Okinawa Germany and korea

That’s awesome, hard to pin point the date without pictures, but based on your description it sounds like a 1943-1945. (3 barrel, steel, 14 hole insert)
Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
As far as value, the best place to look is to compare sold eBay listings. It sounds like it’s priceless though for your friend.
