Many other performers would have either got angry, upset, embarrassed, or made the audience feel uncomfortable after this mistake. But Dean's effortless charm, & ability to laugh at himself & the situation, & never take himself too seriously, just carries us all with him. Like Laurel & hardy, Dean makes us feel that we are in the company of our dearest friends, so we just relax & laugh along too.
After working for more than ten years with Jerry Lewis learning to improvise for two hours per show for eight shows a day, this "mistake" was a piece of cake for him. Martin & Lewis was a great gym for Dean Martin.
A mistake and a recovery like that is based on years doing live performances. Being confident and comfortable with yourself, not taking yourself so seriously, and having a ton of talent. God bless Dean. Great talent and a wonderful sense of humor.
Dino was such a bad-ass. He flubs a line and although they could have used another take, Dean saves this take by ad-libbing his way out of it by laughing at himself, then, with a few throw-away lines on the side, finishes the song in cool-cat crooner style.
Of all the Blue moons in the world..this is the version I love the best☺..sounds like a prayer and a lullabye at the same time (except for the whipser part!)🤣
Cassandra Williams I think the point is, nowadays most guys don't really care about your notion of true men. Needless to say the blunt and obvious logical fallacy.
Except he wasn't. It's generally agreed by those who were there at the time that the drunkenness was an act and it was only apple juice in his glass. As has been pointed out, who would have paid him all those millions of dollars over the years if he was as drunk as he always appeared to be?
I have a feeling they wrote "whipser" on the cue card to trip him up so that he could have some fun with it. If you listen very carefully at one point he looks off camera and says very softly, "I'm ashamed of you." A moment later he says, "You should see what's written on this card." They knew he'd make it an entertaining moment.
Oh, Dean Martin, I love you. I wasn't born until 1979, and I wish I could have been around when you were at your peak. At least we have memories of you.
Watching these performances and reading biographies on Sinatra and Dean, I feel like I was born 30 years late. I'm just glad they still exist (albeit in analog/digital form) for folks like me who wouldn't have had a chance to learn from such talent.
Where is this kind of talent today?? Dino was simply superb - a great voice and a great entertainer. Cool and effortless, he shows that true talent never gets old. We miss you, Dino!!
I wish there were shows like this today. Dean was before my time but this short clip made me laugh and smile more than anything on today. What do we have now? Honey Boo Boo. No wonder this world has gone to hell!
Even as a 12 year old kid I knew he was great. It wasn't 'teenager music', but it was one of the several variety shows that were on the 10 or so channels we had available. He was so cool!
loved him since i was a wee girl, will continue to love him until I meet him in the afterlife, loved his looks, voice, acting and singing, will remain a devoted fan forever

Hetreme swooner never rehearsed his show, just let the others as he played golf. I have the 12 dvds I found in a thrift store! When it rains I cuddle up in bed and watch them over and over. Such a charming, comediac, extremely swooner singer and OMGoodness soo handsom! But in reality he never drank.
I wasnt talking about the socalled stars in that connection, but all of us. People nowadays are much more materialistic. We have a modern western world today and it kind of maintain our lifestyle.
DEAN MARTIN WILL ALWAYS BE THE COOLEST OF COOL OF MUSIC.. ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS OPEN HIS MOUTH AND THE WORDS JUST FLOWED OUT, AND HE DID NOT HAVE TO STRAIN TO SING..
I'm enjoying one to it now.. And yes, it's even greater than you can imagine.. :P -And I don't care what people say, yeah it isn't healthy. So isn't living a happy life either.. If I love to be above 75-80. Then I will gladly take any amount of years i've lost, due to cigarettes, concidering how much pleassure, comfort and friends from just having a cigerette somewhere, and falling in a conversation I otherweize wouldn't have. =)
All I have to do is see Dean and I automatically SMILE

i think dean martin is the only man i can stand watching being drunk lol
Except he wasn't. It's generally agreed by those who were there at the time that the drunkenness was an act and it was only apple juice in his glass. As has been pointed out, who would have paid him all those millions of dollars over the years if he was as drunk as he always appeared to be?

Its incredible Deans singing, touchable our heart. voice song melody combined.

Dean makes me relax. His songs make me appreciate that era which I agree was no much better than the crap we hear and see today.
Watching these performances and reading biographies on Sinatra and Dean, I feel like I was born 30 years late.
I'm just glad they still exist (albeit in analog/digital form) for folks like me who wouldn't have had a chance to learn from such talent.
