Wow Nathan, this video was a full on Deja Vu. I just did this job a month ago cause the water pump bearing totally "give out." I sure wish I had seen you do this before I had to figure it out myself. All I could do was look at pics of the front end of M62tu's and take it real slow. Slow? It took me a month. A bunch of new parts.. hoses, WP and thermostat, belts, and (I can't remember what else) I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this. You reminded me that although I'm not a mechanic, since I did as much homework as I could, took my time, learned about things I didn't know jack all about, I could and did do it.. She's running like a beauty. I'm 70K miles on my 2003 540i M-sport. The only thing that worries me is the lingering dark cloud of the timing chain guides. Again, thank you, Nathan. Yer a good man.
Having that lift makes life a whole lot easier. Learning a lot with this vid. Prepping for a timing chain guide job. Hyperventilating right now just thinking about it.
I have a seal driver set somewhere but it usually doesn't work in a situation like that since the crankshaft is in the way and even when the cover is off of the engine I usually just use a large socket. You get to use the 3/4 or 1 inch drive sockets you rarely use unless you own or work on heavy trucks or equipment. I normally just use motor oil on the seal and it usually works alright.
The oil leak will be in the engine mount leg where oil goes thru to the filter housing. There's a couple of o-rings between the leg and the block that are probably shot.
"i don't do this for a living, i will probably charge him nothing" that's the wrong attitude nathan unless you are filthy rich charge and make that money for savings! you deserve it brother that quality work! and im not worried about the title it seems everyone is crying over "clickbait"
@@NathansBMWWorkshop haha that makes sense but I feel you are losing a good portion of income doing these for free. He already replaced parts and did it himself so if you are doing it too he should pay. But if I were to charge for the valley pan gasket repair I did I def would it ain’t fun haha.
Hi Nathan, thanks for taking the time to post these videos. They are most helpful. I did the ccv delete on my 04 e46. M54. However, my crankcase is building pressure at idle faster than the port on the back of the manifold can draw. Any ideas on how to solve this? Its pushing oil out of my valve cover gasket.
Quick question. I have a 05 530i (M54), no errors on the dash and the car seems to hesitate at exactly 3k rpm. Where should I start my investigation? 190k on the dash, manual 6 speed. New vanos and cam sensors installed about a year ago.
Hey, you did read my mind. I was asking "Nathan, what did you spray on the belt". You should use that psychic brain of yours to win lottery scratchers.

I never thought about using a screw for the seal. Thanks for the idea
I favour that instead of drilling a hole. No metal shavings falling inside
The screw is an old trick that works well in most cases.
Awesome stuff! Another m62 saved.
See Nathan…M62TU video BAM 4K worth of views.

Great content really thorough with all the step saving this video in case I ever get a water pump problem

That's the same method I been using to remove the seal also the oil leak behind the alternator sometimes would be behind the alternator bracket

I would do the oil pan gasket and motor mounts while you are in there with the subframe is off.
Where the hell is the catastrophic engine failure? Totally baited.
Yes, it kinda feels disingenuous.

Better off asking in a E46 Facebook group.
glad i sold my m62tu 6 speed for MASSIVE profit before any of these issues happened

i didn't think youd ever touch the v8 engines again
where is the "catastrophic engine failure" ???????????????????????????????????
Hes had ones that broke
I agree. I watched the whole damn thing. When he rev’d it at the and I thought maybe the engine would blow. 51 minutes of my life I will not get back.
@@paperandmedals8316 i didn't waste much time fortunately, skipped all the way to the end and saw the engine running
Bad title - misleading...The engine seal was worth watching..but it was a little long..
