What does freedom mean to you?

Austin, you are very inspirational and humble. I love your videos. 🙂Humans are social animals. As a part of a society, you can never be truly free and you need people to conform to society to have a comfortable life style and also advance our human civilization. Just imagine what a chaotic world would be if everyone quit their jobs. I think freedom is a balance. A balance between comformation to society and personal choices.

I will say this. The most free I felt was during my time unemployed. I was able to go out and explore and also focus 100% on my well being. The only drawback to freedom is that one needs self-discipline to make the most out of it. Without structure, freedom transforms into something completely different.

I'm a 62 year old female who was made redundant almost 2 months ago and will say it nearly broke me. Luckily I had the reserves that is allowing me to regroup and find what it is I need to do next. Since my redunancy I have begun to discover that sense of freedom. I've learned how to breath again, I've begun appreciate the naturality of what life should/could really be and enjoy the simplicity of well ...... Just life.
Also I have to say in watching Austin's posts, his down to earth and honest communication certainly has helped me to remain grounded, centred and has given me the confidence to not be afraid to be different, get drawn into the rat race of life and begin to live the life that is more true to me and not how society dictates/or tries to push us in a more commercial way.
Thank you Austin for your honest words which has helped pull me up, keep going and begin to enjoy the simplicity of life. Please keep up your good work. You are appreciated by many.🌻

After severe illness in my twenties and early thirties i decided to live life on my own terms. I work parttime (until early afternoon) and go for long walks everyday after I have finished my job. Therefore I exercise and I am outside a lot. My husband and I have been living apart together for almost ten years. He has two sons whom I love dearly but I am not their day to day stepparent. Sometimes people question me about my life choices, but I feel so good and free in all aspects of my life.

To me freedom is similar to peace. To be at peace is to be free: free from pressing desires, free from sorrow, free from obligations that bring you disconfort. I feel free when I feel at peace with myself and want nothing different from what I am living at the moment. As a philosopher teacher, I enjoy the way you talk about philosophical ideas from your own perspective and mentioning ideas coming from pop culture, because for me this a change, since I'm accostumed to always have the philosophers' words in my mind... But I think you would enjoy the ideas of some philosophers about freedom, like Epicurus, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. Maybe some day you could do a video about that. They were all frugal and against mainstream society, but had different approaches to the happy life, and for all of them freedom is key.

  • @josephbrown9685

The sad fact I’ve come to realize after many years is that getting others on board with this kind perspective is so difficult because so many are too deep into the lifestyle that has been fed to them by society. I’ve had to learn to enjoy my own company above all else, as I am mentally in a place that many cannot comprehend, and it has taken me decades to get here.

A quote that was really powerful in it was, "It can be so unexpectedly calming to take actions you'd been fearing or delaying--to finally hand in your notice at work, become a parent, address a festering family issue, or close on a house purchase. When you can no longer turn back, anxiety falls away, because now there's only one direction to travel: forward into the consequences of your choice."

John Locke said that there is a circle of freedom surrounding each person and all people at birth. And within that circle is the absolute human right to live and live freely. This is a natural right born of natural law or the law of nature. It is divine and eternal, unalterable by mankind. Moreover, man also has the ability to reason. And it is through reason that he discovers and discerns natural law, his natural rights, and their application to all of humanity.

Interesting ideas. I love Dave Chappell and other comedians who will still risk offending people. I wish George Carlin was still here. I have to disagree on one point- about freedom not ‘behaving’. If we’re going to live in a society we have to have rules we can all agree on or we would devolve into chaos. For instance can we all agree that Freedom shouldn’t be walking down the street spitting on people or shoving them out of the way? Laws are necessary as well as common decency and respect to others.

The Garden of Eden spiritual narative (part 1)
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In the abundance of the Garden there was two trees symbolizing the negative and the positive part of Creation . First was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil talking about free will and there was the Tree of Life of the eternal predestined divinity.
The two trees are what our inner dispositions is all about , it is about on which premise do we function ,the Ego or Divinity! The Divine forbade the Ego to form because it will eventually lead to death and so it was in the story where eating (forming) from the tree of Free-Will had a devastating effect which we feel even today!
The Serpent being the symbol of virility and fertility wanted the woman to partake the sweetness of materiality, pleasure and power( to be God) which the woman could not contain and got the man to eat as well to which the man lost his manliness. The outward projection and the illusion that ensued is when the Serpent is outside coiled around the tree.
Indeed the salvation rest in getting the Serpent to be within and transforming the Ego by grace, love and righteousness through the Virgin Mother. This kundalini awakening happens when the Divine penetrates into this outward illusionary realm to bypass the Cherubim with the flaming sword opening up the path to the Tree of Life!

Interesting points. Still to have real freedom a person will need Fyou money. To have enough money to say get lost to a idiot boss, etc…If someone has no money and is deep in debt they are slaves to the Man. Money still equals freedom. I think. Unless a person is born rich without a care in the world. Most in the world are not lucky enough. Fyou money equals freedom. Don’t need a lot of it though.

You need to recognize the harm in that, and the harm in promoting his 'IDGAF attitude.' It's important to care about others.
