    My advice, after decades of working and soul-searching: you don't have to love your job. You are getting paid to do it. Don't try to do what you love. Do what you are good at, and you will be paid accordingly. Save your passion for things outside of your job. Save the money you make at your job, so you can leave that job as soon as possible and spend more time on your passions. The minute you need to do something for money, it becomes work.

      100% agree. No better way to lose your passion for something than to do it for a living.

      That’s a really good advice and I wish I knew that sooner. You kinda get tricked into this whole idea that your job must be your life passion and it’s not true.

    You’ve just described what I’ve been doing over the last 5 years.
    Every tip you gave really does work. At the age of 50, I came to realise that I didn’t need all the stuff I have after a holiday in a shack in the middle of Wales.
    I didn’t miss the TV, technology or broadband, I just needed a good book and my radio. I found a new appreciation of the simple (and free) things in life like walking, days at the beach.
    And now? I’m debt free, working part time and have 12 months salary worth of savings as a financial buffer and I’ve never been so content and happy

      I totally agree with you. I'm turning 33 this year and have been in several jobs (for many reasons) but most of the time I'm bloody exhausted with them constantly trying to raise productivity with such a small raise. I also live in one of the most expensive cities in England (Bristol - basically turning into the new London) and feel so trapped. I work as a charity fundraiser on the phone, I have cut my days down to 4 days a week but today iv been close to asking to do 2 or 3 days a week and then pick up random shifts off Limber.
      Companies really treat us like robots. Always pushing. I honestly feel like getting some walking boots, a tent and some waterproofs and just keep walking as far away as a fuckin can...even though I have a foot injury!! So done with it. I'm pretty much at another breaking point. All I want is enough to learn to drive, get a van and fuck off somewhere but even that seems farfetched.
      Sick of burn out every few weeks...and since havng this job one of my eyes literally keeps twitching!! Never happened before.

    Hello, Mr. Austin Williams. I'm 63 as you know and your video is spot on. In five words: "WANT LESS TO WORK LESS." As well, when I was young I was always chasing a dream of one sort or another. Your video comes across as absolutely true, Mr. Williams: It's better to be poor and owe nothing than to live in such a manner that you have to hustle your ass for the rest of your life to show off to society what someone else really owns. Not having to answer, "How high?" to anyone on earth when asked to jump is blissful freedom.
    Think about this statement for a few moments: Who do I jump for?
    A boss? A bank? Tenants? Employees? Employers? Customers? Landlord?
    I adore you, Mr. Williams, but I think you know this already. Quiet Quitting is not the answer to freedom at all.

  • @davidjenson7773

    These points are the key to freedom.
    After working in a job I loved and enjoying my clients and work I retired .
    A employee bought the business never has my life been simpler .
    I even sold my car as I live in urban chicago and don't need one. I get teased by friends and family seeing my simple life. With freedom comes real happiness.
    Austin you are teaching people things ideas that normally take a life time to learn . Brilliant clip today thank you!

    Great video Austin. I was blessed by great Grandparents. a few things they always taught me. If you make a Dollar you can save a dime. Always pay yourself, 2nd, live below you means. 3rd, Credit Card is not credit! It's debt. The problem with so many is the need for instant gratification. Charge rather than save up for something. PS; I'm 73 and I retired at 51.

    Quiet quitting is more than just about money. It's about taking a stand against employers and companies that wanna use employees so we live to work and not work to life.

      I know I am late on this, but the cure to quite quitting is just to quit. Take your talents elsewhere. Do you really think that your parents and grandparents had it that easy? Employers have been doing this for so long. When I was younger, I worked 45-50 hours but was paid for 40 (and not really what I was worth). They dangled the carrot of more money or a promotion. Funny, never "life balance".....

This video is great since it shows me how far I've come on my journey and how much further I have to go. I started to go through my mess of a closet and bedroom. Doing this shows me what the effects of consumerism are. I'm decluttering and keeping a fraction of what I have. Thanks again for another great video.

    I'd even go beyond 'buying stuff' and include over-spending at bars and cafes as part of consumerism. Cos going out and being seen, even if it's to see good friends of yours, can end up like keeping up with the Joneses. You grab a beer or wine, have some laughs, stay longer, your friends drink more, so you order more drinks or even get a round, and then you end up (in Melbourne) spending A$100+ in just a few hours. Sure, life is short but there's a line between having fun with friends vs needing to drink and doing something extra to keep up with them. That's a topic for you - when spending on experiences can go too far.

    • @tamara5082
      @tamara5082 2 года назад +4

      This is a bigger part. Other people just expect you to randomly spend idk how much to sociolize, like no. I can not just randomly go somewhere spending money. People usually do not get that. Or someone else desides you need to pay for extras that you did not ask for, a group project where suddenly you need to buy chocolades for the people willing to help as extras. At my college it is motivated for students to go out/go for lunch in the city after school. I can not pay 25 euros or more randomly... I could plan it in if i wanted to...make a buget for a "randomly spend" category. But my spending will be desided by other people. What and aweful situation sometimes. Luckly I have a bf at home and I just use that to go home. I do want to spend time with my classmates, I just do not want to pay for it.

      @@tamara5082 Thanks for your reply..It’s something i wondered more about now that i’m back home and in a different phase, saving money and being more careful with how i spend it. I walk past all the bars in my neighbourhood, pubs really, and see everyone holding their beer and wearing similar clothing etc. They seem to be having fun and i hope so. But for me now i’d feel like ‘the price of entry’ to be there is several beers. Plus in Australia there’s the culture of ‘shouting’ beers for your mates, that you pay for a round, and your mate gets the next one. It ends up being an expensive night, and i think there’s a bit of bravado that ‘i can pay for this.’ So that brings the question of what else to do with your time :)

      I can't see this happening. Companies do not care about the workers, everyone can be replaced. They're in it for making the profit and at the end of the day you still need to work to get paid. No one is going to pay you to do nothing or what you want to do.

      The struggle between workers and employers has been going for centuries. Workers standing up is how we got labor unions in the early half of the 10th century. That’s how we got a 40 hour week, health benefits, vacation and many other benefits. Unfortunately the power of unions has declined significantly in the past 20-30 years. Workers pay the price for that.

    I just did my own thing during my 40 year career in software development. If my boss wanted me to write more hours done on my timesheet, I simply wrote more hours down on my timesheet and worked the same hours as I did before.
    I retired by way of firing the company for poor performance.
    By the way, I always spent less than I earned . I’ve been debt free most of my life.

    I like your video's what your saying is mostly true about consumerism, but society is neuro primed this way and everyone has their own needs/financial level but yes your tips will save a lot for many people even if they can buy it endless buying will end up in clutter. :)

    I think "quiet quitting" is simply a sign of the times and your own personal work ethic. The younger generation just aren't willing to work as hard as their parents did and their children aren't willing to work at all. I took pretty much ANY job when I was young as I believed any job was better than no job. Young people these days are very willing to mooch off their parents or anyone else for that matter. It comes down to "doing a job well done" or just doing enough to get by. I agree there is more to life than work but truly believing a job worth doing is worth doing well, makes the world a better place.

    • @dawnkosior2511
      @dawnkosior2511 2 года назад

      YES! My father always said whatever your job is, do it the best you can. I think too, younger people are not content with what they do have...it's always about "better" or "more". You should enjoy your life & your things but at some point you need to find the happiness.

      Whilst I agree and I have walked a similar path to you, I am seeing a different side to this. In most businesses the sociopaths and narcissists get to the top and the nonsense flows down. I find myself quiet quitting. I work for idiots who couldn’t organise a bun fight in a bakery.

      Nothing comes from hard work anymore like it used to though. In my opinion that’s why.

    • @anniefromspokannie
      @anniefromspokannie 2 года назад +8

      This is an oversimplified response to a much larger socioeconomic issue that is occurring within the workplace. Quiet quitting isn’t so much a refusal of willingness to work as it is a refusal for the workplace standards that have been put in place. In my experience, people DO want to work, but they do not deserve to be absolutely miserable for the job getting done and then be compensated less than every generation before them. Putting work standards in the hands of American workers instead of large corporations and greedy businesses will lead to better outcomes within society for everyone. I have worked with people of all ages who are finding themselves with the same set of issues with employers (not just younger employees), there will always be some people with low work ethic as there always has been, but i very much disagree with this opinion as a working person in my 30s who sees the working class starting to demand a better future for everyone in the workplace. Why would we not want better for future generations?

    • @user56gghtf
      @user56gghtf 2 года назад +1

      @@anniefromspokannie Agreed. On the "generation" topic most prior try to use. I've worked with people that didn't want to work that were my age, much older than me and some younger than me. Work ethic just like personality is personal not from what "age" you are.

      @@ElAgustin if we go on youtube nor Instagram, its always about how millionaires or billionaires lived their lives and all looks good. But i found your’s inspiring because its just like the life that i can pursue without having a million dollars. Instead of feeling terrible for the millionaire lifestyle that i never experienced, why not i go with your lifestyle that is sustainable and wealthier without being a millionaire? I thought quiet quitting meant quitting your usual way of working which is to go above and beyond.
    How can there be a cure for that? If people have decided not to over extend themselves anymore for someone else's gain then I dont see how these cures would be of benefit to them.

    the cure to quiet quitting. PAY YOUR FUCKING EMPLOYEES A COMFORTABLE WAGE. Thats why this started. companies want more work for less money, and the little guy is sick of it. You get what you pay for now. pay me $30 an hour, and you'll get a $30 an hour worker. Pay poverty wages that never move, and you get what you get.
    I mean. all these companies are CONSTANTLY bragging about how they are mkaing record breaking profits. It's more than time for the little guy to get his cut of this pie.
