I came here to say exactly the same thing. Her childlike naivety, coupled with her misplaced confidence on certain tasks makes her so adorable. I need a Nina in my life, she makes me laugh so much!
@@rikmoran3963 that misplaced confidence was charming, endearing, and hysterical all at once. She's such a sweet girl to, her and Danielle. But Julia is riot. For some reason Nina reminds me of David Correos and Angella Dravid from Taskmaster NZ, like a cross between the two. Which doesn't really make much sense, but sort of does... 'nt.
@@Reece_Hart after introductions and the prize task - having not known a single one of them going in - I was rooting for Nina or Luke (Neil hit it on the head with saying Luke was gonna be entertaining because of his personality); after the first episode I was rooting for Danielle and Nina. But by episode 3 or 4, I was rooting for Julia more than anyone. Julia or Danielle. Or Nina, but that poor girl didn't stand a chance. As far as Jimmy, didn't really care for him... I don't know, I just didn't warm up to him AT ALL. He seemed really stiff,
When I saw Julia go right to the fridge for the orange task, I guessed she might have experienced TM UK. I like how Lesser Tom gets visibly amused by people messing up a lot more than Alex does.
Wonderful timing - just this past weekend, I shotgunned this entire season online with my friend from Perth. You're in for a good time, though the RUclips transfer is sketchy at best. The extremely unofficial uploads included a lot of the hallmarks of that type of distribution, including network promos for the channel's digital player that are not edited out. You'll have an answer about how to refer to the two Toms reasonably by Episode 3. They come up with the solution the fanbase needs.
I've just started binging this series.. Another brilliant Taskmaster set with unique tasks, great contestants, ideal taskmaster and an awesome assistant Congrats Australia for getting it right 🇦🇺👍
I just watched the full run of this and "Nina, I like you but you're a terrible contestant" is how I feel about the whole series. Brilliant version of TM from the start. I love it.
The studio parts were indeed filmed in Sydney back in December. Personally I feel like the live tasks are the weakest part of the show and do suffer from the amount of add breaks crammed in.
Tom Gleeson host Hard Quiz where he does a lot of banter with the contestants. If you check out an episode or just some highlights you're get a good idea what to expect from him being the TM. It's basically what got him the role. He once started a campaigned for a TV presenter to win a prestigious Australian TV award that he had no right winning and pulled it off. One of the biggest trolls in Australian media
This might be my favorite version, there's just something about Tom as Taskmaster. He's more brutal than Greg, and not useless like the prat on NZ. And I just love how they share the NZ Taskmaster residence. Edit: now that I think about it, I can't believe they didn't get Kitty as Taskmaster. Other than Jim Jeffries, Adam Hills, Tim Minchin, and the flamboyant gay guy Rhys Nicholson, Kitty is really the only Australian I was familiar with until now.
Before the Toms were announced, my dream taskmaster and assistant casting would have been Kitty Flannigan and Aaron Chen basically as a reference to anther show they were in called Fisk
So pleased you got to this series. I felt the first episode was the weakest so you are really in for a treat, Luke and Nina are fabulous and I was really impressed with the variety of tasks. Am looking forward to re-watching it with you 🙂
I really loved this season to be honest, and I agree. The first episode is the ‘weakest’ and the tasks are great. Some are up there with my all time faves and I’d like to see adapted for other versions. Keen to see your reactions to this season! :)
I enjoyed this version of Taskmaster, it was a great season (I wish it was longer). The two Toms certainly understood the brief of show. And the production crew did a great job of casting this season, they all work so well together. I look forward to seeing the rest of your vids on this.
Correct: The studio segments were filmed in Australia. It is a lot cheaper to hire an NZ film-crew than an Australian one due to NZ's lack of unions for film (taken away as "The Hobbit Law"), not sure that was a core motivation or not to film the core tasks in NZ.
toms a pretty good pick as taskmaster as he has a set 'character' in aussie tv. his big gig other than taskmaster right now is Hard Quiz (which is basically just a pick your specialist subject plus a bit of chaos kinda quiz with a lot of the same comedy shown here plus some takes at the abc and other aussie presenters)
This version is the first non-British Taskmaster that ive watched, and now I know how you Americans and Canadians feel watching the British version, when they make references to random australian things and I can only guess from context. But yeah this version is really good, I am enjoying!
Like this a lot , the two Toms have a different relationship from Gregg and Alex but it works well . The contestants are a good pick , I feel that like the Uk a nd Nz. version they all know or at least know of each other , which may be why the US. version didn't work . Loving the wackiness of Luke and Nina already . A thought occurred about the skylight in the caravan during the balloon task , maybe there was a way of opening it ? Anyway glad Neil liked it and looking forward to the next one .
I immediately went off to confirm this and you're right - and I stayed to watch the whole QI episode. Julie looks so different in appearances two decades apart and yet has the same manerisms.
I think this version is a winner. The 'OZ' people share alot of the dry sarcastic wit and self depreciation... There seems to be a well rounded group of celebs. I think it will go a lot further than USA versoin.
Excited for this series, very fun season, one of the most chaotic casts I've seen, don't quite fit my usual archetypes, you don't really have any highly competitive Ed gamble types, or straightforward but competent keri's, instead you get 5 very different but equally chaotic competitors that when channeled the right way are brilliant, but just as often go wildly in the complete wrong direction Danielle and Nina really stood out to me, but all 5 were very entertaining Enjoy both Tom's, Cashman especially really grew on me. Paul is still by far my favorite Alex, but Tom was still great (I may admitidly be biased, have a huge crush on Paul and developed a smaller one on Tom as well). Tom Gleeson while still probably the weak link for me, is much stronger than Jeremy, especially for his first season.
I’m so stoked you are reacting to Taskmaster AU. I really enjoyed this season after having fears it wouldn’t be that good, because I love the show so much. It was a strong season and there really are some moments that are right up there with great Taskmaster moments. I’m keen for season 2. The season 2 of the NZ version is the best season in any universe imo so I have high hopes for season 2! :)
The Australian constitution allows for NZ to join as the 8th Australian state any time they want to. They aren’t ever going to want to, but AUS and NZ share a special relationship all the same, with pretty much open borders, and reciprocal -almost citizenship- rights to government services when in each other’s nation. Very similar to the Schengen arrangement in the EU. The Aussie and NZ film and music industries have long been intertwined. NZ definitely has it’s very own culture unique from Australia, but practical geographic reasons and similar-era colonial beginnings, plus the reciprocal travel and living rights lets creative artists of all types move and work easily in both nations. Australians regularly steal world famous New Zealanders if they spent time working in Australia. For example we claim Russel Crow, Sam Neil and the Finn brothers are Aussies among many more.
It kind of felt to me like the audience wasn’t actually there, and had been added later, like with the Covid episodes of the UK series… maybe they were at the recording, but something about the sound of them sounded off to me. Also, I much prefer being able to see the audience in some of the shots, which makes it all feel a bit more intimate. But generally I liked the vibe of it, and will probably watch the rest of the series!
I'm used to a more gruff and grumpy taskmaster, Tom seems a bit too energetic and cheerful. And with his looks, I keep thinking that he's like the Bizarro Colin Robinson!
AU S1 wound up being my favorite out of all the more recent TM series, it was so fun. I don’t *love* Tom as the Taskmaster, but then again I seem to be the only one who adores Jeremy over on NZ.
I really enjoyed this, it definitely hit the floor running. But would I be wrong in suggesting that they may have learned a lot from watching previous Taskmaster series?
Tbh it’s not been a thing really in Australia. Probably has a bit of a cult following in a way, much like Cats does Countdown becoming more popular in the recent year or 2 and now both have their own Aussie versions.
I still need to watch the last couple of episodes. Honestly what I've seen I think it's okay. Nothing awful, but nothing that really makes it stand out from the UK or NZ versions. Idk, I don't mind it, but if I'm watching UK, NZ & Kongen Befaler that might put AU out of my priorities.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the entire series, although I thought it started strongly but I felt it tailed off slightly towards the end imho And I wish the TM was a bit stricter with disqualifications
The Greg here is far better than the NZ Greg, but of course no actual Greg. The Alex is a hair below the NZ Alex (who most of us acknowledge is about 90% of actual Alex). The cast is decent. They're like a middle tier cast on the other shows--no true standouts but also no bombs (they're all at least likeable). The tasks are okay, at least to the point I've seen, although not brilliant.
I’m not overly keen on their Alex, he laughs to much (Alex would only laugh in extreme situations, he would only let out emotions in extreme situations), he’s not weird enough
I like these videos but the clapping is really annoying. Clapping just doesn't sound good over most microphones and that's definitely the case here. I get the whole "feeling like part of the show" vibe but in video format, it's not pleasant for the listener
The red croc was previously worn by Paul Ego (TM NZ series 3)
Oh, you're gonna love Nina just for the entertainment factor. She is absolutely adorable!
I came here to say exactly the same thing. Her childlike naivety, coupled with her misplaced confidence on certain tasks makes her so adorable. I need a Nina in my life, she makes me laugh so much!
I went in wanting Jimmy to do well as I love his youtube stuff. But by the end Nina had completely won me over

I agree 100% with this. She is wonderful but she’s not the most adept contestant haha having said that, she has a few moments of brilliance! :)
The sheer panic on Tom Cashman’s face and the denial of being present at the sex grand final is one of my favourite moments in the series 😂😂
at last you are doing Taskmaster Au, the world needs more Nina's
This is a great version, you're going to love it and the cast.

This was a strong opener, Luke's montage was hilarious.
I’m from the uk & the only contestant I knew was Julia Morris. She was on an early episode of QI
They establish the Tom's as Tom & Lesser Tom.
As an Australian, I didn’t know anyone on this show except Tom Gleeson and Julia Morris. So don’t worry about not knowing anyone!

To be honest, I wouldn’t say no to a Hard Quiz reaction video
I still love that he managed to get a gold Logie for Hard Quiz 😂😂😂😂😂
The solution to the remove the baloon from the caravan task is the Al Murray method - pay someone to go in and get it for you.

It was a lot more fun watching your reaction than the original.
