Oh God, that was my introduction to Mr. Blobby and I genuinely had to question the English and why they would let such a terrifying figure be on children’s television. I’ll never get over that voice 😭
The opening bit about Alex fancying his neighbor's wife was mentioned on Seth Meyers. Alex didn't like that because he DID have new neighbors and knew for a fact they watched the show. So he found that awkward. 😄 Also, bonus comment: if you haven't done it yet, Greg and Alex were guests on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote the new season! Seth is a big fan of British comedy so he does what he can to expose more of us dumb 'Muricans to it.
They definitely have those characters you mention in the UK! Mr. Greedy makes a very memorable appearance in season 12 of Taskmaster even when Victoria Coren Mitchell brings him as a prize task (twice!)
I love these unboxing videos. I've never bought myself but it's good to see what you receive! I used to work in the marketing dept at Ragdale Hall and would often receive freebies from Clarins etc. Freebies get you hooked on a product. x
Mr. Blobby was a big part of 90s Saturday night TV. It's not a puppet but like a mascot costume - like Gritty, but not a mascot of anything. Basically he'd run on to set and knock things over and wrestle people to the ground and generally cause chaos. He's remembered fondly by very few people (except Joanna).
Mr Blobby was an anarchic character created for the kids/family show 'Noel's House Party' in the early nineties. Bascially just a guy in a big pink rubber suit, he ran around bumping into people and things, falling over, being very annoying, and only every saying 'blobby!' in a weird voice. For some reason her was very popular, though I never really got it. That said, as someone else mentioned, he does appear on an episode of Big Fat Quiz and actually manages to bring some solid humor to the role, so maybe I've judged him harshly. Certainly for a certain generation of British audience, Mr Blobby is iconic - for good or evil - practically everryone has heard of him and seen his 'act'
He started off as a prank item, a parody of a children's character if anything, but his physical comedy is actually very funny, imo, so it's not a surprise he wormed his way into the public's affections. If anything, the divisiveness added to the iconography, everybody had an opinion, it's hard not to when he looks the way he does, and moves the way he does, and sounds the way he does...
Oh, trust me, Mr. Men are a definitive part of British childhoods. They're basically ritualistic at this point. (The author is British, as others have pointed out).
Ooh a planet zoo fan nice :) No vowel hangman was awesome especially the "it means assistant" mic drop on adjutant reveal. Mr Blobby is a horrific yet amusing abomination. You can find out lots about him from big fat quiz of the 80s where he appears. Big fat quiz is a mostly comedian celebrity quiz quite fun
There's something rather hilarious about you not knowing if we have the Mr Men books in the UK, when it originates from Britain. The author wrote the first book after his son asked him "What does a tickle look like?". A RUclips channel called Fact Fiend did a very humorous summary of what Mr Blobby is and the history of the character. I highly recommend them.
I believe Joanne got to have one of the Mr Blobbys they used for the show, and the TM person who answered the questions is also a Mr Blobby stan and got the other (they have backups of several things including in the outfits of the contestants). I highly recommend Taskmaster: The People's Podcast co-hosted by TM expert statician Jack and, currently, Jenny Eclair (earlier, Lou Sanders). Also rec the official pod.
I dont know if you saw the short clip that explained alex actually does have a new neighbour and now things are extremely awkward for him since this aired
What this series does is perfectly highlight Steve Pemberton's acting ability. He's probably my favourite this season, but it's difficult as no one, oddly, stands out.
As others have said, you need to watch the last section of "The Big Fat Quiz of the 90's" for a dose of Mr. Blobby. I was very tired when I watched it the first time, and had fallen asleep for a bit. I woke up to Mr. Blobby coming on, and thought I was having a stroke.
Curious what order you will go through the task master backlog when you finish this series. Can't remember if you were fully caught up and have only missed one main series before this.
I really thought they could probably get him with their connections at this point, though I'm not sure there's an actual person who plays him at this point. Do you know if he's appeared anywhere since BFQ?
And now I'm coming up with ideas for Taskmaster Hangman... maybe there's a way for each contestant to get their own word but it'd probably be more like Wheel of Fortune style. How about, everyone STARTS at five points but loses one per wrong guess? And the person who guesses the final word gets their lost points back.
You're not missing out not knowing Mr Blobby. He was a character from a saturday night BBC show, whose entire performance can be summed up as; be annoying whilst loudly shrieking blobby in an artificial voice. The show ran for 10 years though
Mr Blobby is what might be called an acquired taste. You can see the best of Blobby in his guest appearance on The Big Fat Quiz Of The Year. I found myself liking and admiring Blobby in this situation because he terrified Jack Whitehall of whom, I must admit, I am not a fan.
You are so lucky not knowing Mr Blobby . An odd choice for the task when it could have been anyone or thing on the trolley . Some good tasks and Neil is right about them all being pretty competent .John and Steve are doing well so far but a couple of good shows for Joanne or Nick , even Sophie - they are all in the running and I'm enjoying the competitiveness of this series
I HATED the first real task. They were not being followed by Mr. Bobby. Mr. Bobby was not driving the cart, Mr. Blobby was not the one answering the questions, Mr. Blobby was not present in amy way. A balloon of Mr. Blobby is as much the actual Mr. Blobby as saying a photo if Bigfoot is the actual Bigfoot in the flesh.
The Mr. Men books are British btw
Theres a big fat quiz clip with blobby and jack whitehall if u want a crash course on blobby
And I have to agree with Dara in that clip. As my first introduction to Mr. Bloody, I also thought he was a "legend."
You really should react to big fat quiz tbh. They’re all amazing
I always lose my shit when I rewatch that clip, omg, poor Jack 😅😅😅
Oh God, that was my introduction to Mr. Blobby and I genuinely had to question the English and why they would let such a terrifying figure be on children’s television. I’ll never get over that voice 😭
@@jwehope Omg, same, I probably would have found it much more terrifying if I hadn't been laughing at poor Jack being so traumatized 😅
Joanne creating tension with Alex was honestly one of the most stressful, awkward things I've ever seen, and yet it was also hilarious

So much fun to watch your reactions! Good to have you back. 😊
'We've got some competent competitors this season'..... and Nick and Sophie 😂
you can learn all about Mr Blobby in the last 15 minutes or so of the big fat quiz of the 90's. Very hilarious.
Harrowing stuff.
They definitely have those characters you mention in the UK! Mr. Greedy makes a very memorable appearance in season 12 of Taskmaster even when Victoria Coren Mitchell brings him as a prize task (twice!)
Those extra 10s of torture for John were amazing 😂
Another vote for the Big Fat Quiz Mr. Blobby clip, you've got to see it
Yes! Where he terrifies the bejeesus out of Jack Whitehall 😂😂😂
perfect personality mix this season
My introduction to Mr. Blobby was Jack Whitehall's meltdown on The Big Fat Quiz of the 90's.
I knew of him before that, and I think I'd even seen him in a few other shows, but that appearance really epitomises the character for me.
Joanne gives me Morgana vibes - and I love it
After this episode....
Joanne John and Steve are all within one point of each other. I'm excited to keep watching a close series!
I love these unboxing videos. I've never bought myself but it's good to see what you receive! I used to work in the marketing dept at Ragdale Hall and would often receive freebies from Clarins etc. Freebies get you hooked on a product. x
Mr Blobby was on "TBFQot 90's. Worth watching.

Hey Neil, nice to see you :)
Sophie is a joy
I love Neil explaining Mr. Men to any Brits that might be watching. Can't wait until he tells them about Monty Python, The IT Crowd, or Taskmaster.

I loved the Big Fat Quiz where Jack Whitehall was TERRIFIED of Mr Blobby, and to be honest, I would have been terrified too! Haha
Oh, trust me, Mr. Men are a definitive part of British childhoods. They're basically ritualistic at this point. (The author is British, as others have pointed out).
Mr Blobby started on a 90s tv show called Noel’s House Party (presented by Noel Edmonds)
it would probably make more sense if it was noel fielding :D
Ooh a planet zoo fan nice :)

Great reaction.
Just be grateful you don't know what Mr. Blobby is!😀
it's not bad, you're better off not knowing Mr Blobby
What this series does is perfectly highlight Steve Pemberton's acting ability. He's probably my favourite this season, but it's difficult as no one, oddly, stands out.
Whenever Steve finds a chance to write and perform a small play, you just know 5 points are heading his way

Pretty sure they have the Mr Men in the UK because Victoria Coren Mitchell mentioned them on the show
We do! They’re British, by a British author.
It's also a British creation.
I wished they were being followed by the real Mr Blobby 😂

If only Mr. Blobby was one of the Mr. Men, that would have been some reading period in school!
Blobby is the equivalent of Boris Johnson.
Great video
Rather like Morgana back in the day, Greg is a big fan of Joanne this season.
Where is episode 2?
Neil. we need more Fallout reactions! 🤣
The show sucks.
Nick Mohammed is a member of the magic circle. I believe he deliberately ruined that because it would be funnier
guess whos still here
love u neil
I wonder how Alex's wife felt about this episode lol

Please type: BIG FAT QUIZ MR. BLOBBY JACK WHITEHALL
Mr Blobby was a large pink character with yellow pokodots
Mr Blobby - The most punk children's mascot from the 90's!
are you going to do s16? Be a shame not to have it reviewed.
Mr blobby is the most annoying thing to feature on tv, you should watch The Big Fat Quiz where jack whitehall meets mr blobby, comedy gold

but the real Mr Blobby was all about chaos so it wouldn't have worked. They'd all get it straight away if they heard him speak too.
@@tagteamchampions That's not an inaccurate point but that's the cost of choosing Mr.Blobby.
