That's why The Green Hornet was canceled despite one Badass dude named Kato , and becuz of always being over budget that's why Johnny Quest got canceled .

I remember seeing his name but didn't make the connection for a while. Best animated show of the 60s. Race Bannon was awesome and made me feel better about my name when I found out his real name is Roger.
Tim Matheson really had a busy early career with voice overs doing just Hanna-Barbera cartoons. After Jonny Quest and the 26 episodes, he did 65 Sinbad Jr. in 1965, then 42 Space Ghost episodes in 1966 and the following year 1967 20 episodes of Young Samson and Goliath. This was still before any movie or television appearances. Tim's acting really began with spending time with Mel Blanc, Don Messick, Mike Road, John Stephenson, Marvin Miller and many many more. He truly grew and his acting talent was more than obvious!! Even to this day!!!
He also made a TWILIGHT ZONE episode appearance that ended up being deleted from an episode that is rarely rerun now, "A Short Drink from a Certain Fountain".
The budget for Jonny Quest was so high that ABC wouldn't continue the series unless Mr.Wildey cut the budget. He wouldn't sacrifice quality to save money so the show was canceled
I remember watching Jonny Quest and loving it and then it was gone. As a kid I didn't understand why there were no more episodes. Now I know. Now I hear there is going to be a Jonny Quest movie possibly next year.
I just found out that Jonny’s voice was really the handsome & talented Tim Matthison. That was my favorite cartoon when I was younger! I fell in love with his face & cute self when I saw “Yours, Mine and Ours” - dreamy Tim!!!
I was 6 years old when Jonny Quest premiered in September 1964 (Every Friday night at 7:30 on ABC). I adored this show. All my Grade 2 friends would come to school on the following Monday morning to discuss that previous Friday's episode. The creator of Jonny Quest Doug Wildey was a perfectionist and oversaw every detail of each episode and more often than not went way over budget each episode. The ratings were tremendous but unfortunately, ABC wouldn't commit to another season unless the budget was significantly cut. Mr. Wildey to his credit refused to sacrifice quality for saving money and the show ended. I never understood why CBS or NBC couldn't have taken over production at that time. Ultimately Jonny Quest became so popular in syndication that all three American networks at one time carried it on Saturdays on their schedules. In looking back now it's amazing how many of the innovations introduced on Jonny Quest are now commonplace today (cell phones/jump jets/hovercrafts etc).
Jonny Quest was my first tv crush! I totally love that show bc it was so adventurous and I was considered a tomboy back in the day. Also, it was pretty culturally inclusive, like star Trek. I'm currently watching it now on Tubi and I have the DVDs. I have also turned my nephew on to them and he loves them too.

Quest was ground breaking....I call it the "Miami Vice" of Cartoons....wildly successful, but just too expensive to produce apparently (thank you union rules for animators). It was a classic. Quite a career for Matheson...Quest...Otter...then a character on Burn Notice which was more or less Otter goes to the CIA and becomes bad, loveably bad, but bad......(Burn was awesome series too).
@@chuckwright8889 I saw Burn Notice from the first episode, a rarity for me. The trailers looked really good and the show didn't disappoint. Always liked a good spy show. I grew up in the "Man From U.N.C.L.E." era.

I can't get the theme out of my head.
It's crazy to realize that there were far more episodes of Sinbad Jr., than there were Johnny Quest.
Ikr?
It kept going over budget.
Most people know Tim Matheson, more for being in animal House, in 1978
Thanks for sharing this audio track of your interview with Mr.Matheson..Mr.Collier.
And, not to mention the impact on music that show made!! Made a lot of kids interested in Californian Jazz.
I Love Watching 1964 Jonny Quest on DVD.
First cartoon I liked because it was based in real world and not animal's acting like humans. Loved it from the start.
You'll always be Jonny first and foremost to me.
He could have worked on all three JQ series (four, if you count how The New Adventures was set up) in different roles.
Oh, if we only could have had a second season😞
