Ok so I’ve spent the last few days researching this Turo business model looking at both the pros and cons of it. And I have heard more then a few stories where host say that have had there vehicle brought back damaged and that they found Turo almost always sided with the renters to avoid having to make the insurance payout. Now law of averages dictates that it’s not a matter of if but when and the degree of damages your vehicle will be subject too. How do you deal with those kinds of issues. And what are your personal experiences with Turo’s insurance payouts. I mean I can’t imagine paying them 40% of my take and when the time came and I needed them they would not take care of there business I think that would be a problem.

How does it work for repairs for mechanical problems rather than damage? Is the renter responsible for mechanical failures that weren't caused by them? In my case I rented a Turo and the battery ended up having to be replaced due to some strange electrical behavior (malfunctioning console display, door alarms when the doors were closed, etc). There was no damage so I'm torn between working out an option to pay part of the cost without involving Turo (which the host offered), or just going through Turo and trying to dispute the claim.

The renters fees they paid is basically extra money Turo is making and has nothing to do with us? So do I confirm the damage or just let it go... Thats my main question should I even report the damage? The windshield was cracked on a GL63 AMG benz. I have a $2500 deduct. Not sure what a windshield will cost.Maybe i should just claim anyway?

I host my 2017 Subaru WRX and a customer returned it with the clutch burned out . Cost 4000 in repair and Turo only paid half. It’s funny how I had the 70% plan and Turo only paid me 1800 for the repair due to a hidden clutch repair.
I think it’s a scam for Turo to charge for insurance to the host and to the renter.

Hi Saimah. Great Video. Quick question, when you refer to the damage repair cost of 1k or whatever amount, who determines that? Does Turo have an adjuster that comes out to check the damage or do we just go to a body shop to get a quote?

    • @cristianvidal1390
      @cristianvidal1390 2 года назад

I believe it works the same as your own personal insurance company. Insurance companies will always send out an adjuster which it will appraise the values of the damages in about 80% accurate, so be prepared to receive less than the amount needed in order to fully repair your car. I am not on Turo however what I always do is, I drop off my cars to the ( branded dealership body shop) then they will contact the insurance so that the insurance sent an adjuster to the dealership directly. Insurance companies hate this procedure but that is legal. That secures me that my car will be out of the garage fully repaired no matter costs of the repairs.

Renter killed both left tires and Rims on my Tesla Model 3. Those were the upgraded $2000 rims at Tesla Purchase. Got the car towed to Discount tire, but they dont have those matching rims. So Tesla would charge $2100 for 2 rims and tires incl all install. Turo 3 weeks later wants to only pay $1500 and asked me to negotiate the price down with Tesla? They only sell OEM wheels. How does the system work here? I mean with enough time I can get some cheap wheels from China to put on there. Why dont they pay what the shop asks for? This is not right.

Hi Saimah, I love your videos and they are extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
When you are leasing a vehicle aren't you also required to have your own type of insurance in order to be able to lease?
In other words aren't you required to have insurance to lease?
Then going forward, when leasing that car, to further protect yourself it's advisable to use Turo's insurance of course. With that said it sounds like you must doubly insure your car, one with your own type of insurance (whether that's personal/commercial/fleet) and then two with Turo's insurance (Liberty Mutual). Is this correct? Or have I misunderstood ( I'm also Tx based)

My personal car insurance has a section that states they "do not provide liability coverage... Of your covered auto while enrolled in a Personal Vehicle Sharing program." The section repeats for uninsured, under insured motorist and "damage to the vehicle" coverages.
I believe this is saying there is a hand off between the two insurance policies (yours and Turo's or Uber etc.) depending on how the vehicle is being used.
The devil is in the details.. since this is a contract (the ins. policy) the word "while" should be defined but isn't.. precision in language is key here. Is the vehicle covered by your insurance if listed but not rented that day? Is it for a whole day or just the hours until the keys are transferred?
I'm just starting to look into Turo so this is a question I need to ask for both my insurance company and of Turo.

If someone crashes into me, wouldn't their insurance cover the host car?

Most insurance companies don't extend coverage to Turo because it is a car sharing program. So no coverage applies. However, I would say that liability coverage follows the driver, so that coverage will protect the 3rd party. Turo on the other hands has to cover the host. I heard State Farm may be an exception in that they will extend coverage to Turo.

If your car is sitting in your driveway or on the curb and another car loses control and hits it, Turo is not responsible as the accident did not happen under a booking. Therefore, it's good to have your own insurance should something happen when the car is not booked.

I feel your frustration! Insurance just feels like a scummy business. Here's an attempt to explain: Turo will use the Host's policy to fix the problem of the car as soon as possible. But Turo doesn't want to come completely out of pocket and they will recoup these fees from the Renter's policy. If the renter declines a policy then Turo will go to the renters personal policy (like Geico which they won't be liable for) and if that fails then they can sue the renter.

@@alexrodriquez1327 it’s in the renters contract when they agree to rent on Turo. I do want to let you know Turo isn’t a fan of you sueing renters but I have done it twice now and won both times.
There are some reason why Turo isn’t legal allowed to operate in the way the are. First they are not an insurance company they are a third party. Therefore your claim takes priority over there’s. Second if they would prevent you from sueing then Turo is now liable for all the damages. All Turo technically can do is ban you for breaking there terms of service they can’t prevent you from ever suing a renter.
I do want to say my position is unique. My family owns a law firm and so I don’t pay for legal counsel. I am NOT lawyer I’m just summarizing the details. Turo doesn’t want to rock the boat otherwise they will end up getting banned in the whole country not just New York so don’t be to afraid to sue a renter.
