Bill Dickens cooks on a Wyn 7-string Amboyna Burl Bass at the 2011 NAMM Show. (Just before he played, he told all of us that he wasn't really warmed up......Yea, right!!!!)
Rest in peace Randall Fullmer you made some incredible Basses for the Bass community. I was shocked by your passing my condolences to your family and thank you for making me a beautiful custom, six string bass that I will cherish for the rest of my life and for those that respond on here. Respond with your opinions of hatred for less respond with love and respect for both Randall and myself as we respect you off what you contribute to the Bass community. Love you all and God bless.
I'd state that the people commenting have EXACTLY an appreciation for *music*... which this is only in the loosest terms. Running scales and slapping as fast as humanly possible isn't a song or a piece of music. And yes, I realize this is NAMM and that this type of playing is not only desired but downright requested... but a line in the sand must be drawn. If you're a play known for "technique", show it within the facets of a piece of music. The irony is that you'll get more press doing so.
Bill is just showing his amazing ability. You go hear him play blues with Carlos Johnson on 4 string. Mind blowing and musical. Don't assume he is just chops.
well bayani8 bill is not his taste..bill has been my favorite for years because bill steps and plays out the norm..explains his 7 and 9 string basses he plays .Ive studied and mastered bill tricks and trust me..for 1 they are most certainly not the same notes,2you will be impressed with how it sounds.to be honest i can hear every note hes playing...that right there tells you the level of that builder power person ear as a bassist if he is..how can you not hear the notes..you no why?
Bill Dickens lost weight !!! WoW!!! He looks like another person! Walking in health!!!! He is not playing any notes but when slowed down he can play!!! Just sayin.......
Alex Al as a bassist has a more complete approach than Victor. Alex is the baddest cat out there. Do the research! Victor plays a bunch of notes. He's (Victor) a beast, but Alex defines what a bassist should sound like.
he hitting different notes. He is just doing it so fast that its hard to heard the different notes. so it sounds just like muted slapping because you cant hear the difference. Thats why I like victor and marcus cuz there is a difference in their notes
Stevie Wonder sure thinks he can play. He, at the very least..deserves a bass award for that first solo run of Ramsey's "Strangers", from the Arsenio Hall show. Vic W. wrote an article on that performance years ago.
Dude, why do you keep hating on Bill Dickens? I see you on every damn video that has to do with Bill, talking about how Victor Wooten is better. Honestly dude, i LOVE Victor Wooten, he has changed the way i view and play bass; however, its just a fact that Bill is a better player TECHNICALLY. Face the reality of this situation and try and learn something from Bill Dickens, instead of going to every one of his videos and disrespecting him. Thanks!
dude how is he better than wooten smh so u telling me u here different notes and quality in bill dickens u need to see vic solos im pissed cause bill call his self trying to battle vic and vic will smash! him with his eyes close

Abraham Laboriel has been playiing that technique for 30+ years
Bill is a great bassist! If you ever get the opportunity, ask Victor about Bill Dickens. Enough said!
to all the percussive bass/slap haters, music is not only bout melody, it's bout rhythm and groove as well,
My 76 yo mother said "I was playing this when I was 6 with just a bicycle and a playing card in the spokes." I love the Buddha!
I'll be humming that melody all day!

On the 8th day god created Bill Dickens
I have already seen all of that stuff. Victor Wooten has been my favorite player for years.
Bill is just showing his amazing ability. You go hear him play blues with Carlos Johnson on 4 string. Mind blowing and musical. Don't assume he is just chops.
some people would say "this aint musical" but if any of us could play like that, we'd all be slapping at 100mph 24/7
Havin' fun, makin' some cool sounds. Nothin' wrong with that!
yeah right he passed warmed he hot as blue fire
does he look thiner and younger??? wow... i want a wyn now !!!
i hope that bass is 18
The people commenting here must not have an appreciation for music faster than 14 notes a second, what a shame.
Any videos on him teaching the marble flicking technique?
hahahahahahah, your comment made me laught. he is just showing some amazing skills

Bill Dickens lost weight !!! WoW!!! He looks like another person! Walking in health!!!! He is not playing any notes but when slowed down he can play!!! Just sayin.......
yes i do.
vic changes notes with speed this guy just play fast on the same notes
I wish there were some good videos of these Wyn basses out there. Too bad all he does it slap really fast with muted notes.
Se a ganado ese bajo
2 words: Nigel Clutterbuck
Is that The Buddha? He was much bigger.. Or just his suit made him tinier..

Just when i though that 6 strings was excessive...
watch Béla Fleck and the Flecktones - The Sinister Minister - #2

noise! vic! sounds way better!
ma che senso ha tutto questo?
Because he lacks the experience of a seasoned bassist? By the way, do you give lessons?
this is one greasy cat
one...he cant play this stuff......2...obviously he a victor fan so...of course hes going to talk about him..lol that's the funny part
...I agree, no music! Ok if your a drummer..?
Meh... A 4 string is all you need...
dude how is he better than wooten smh so u telling me u here different notes and quality in bill dickens u need to see vic solos im pissed cause bill call his self trying to battle vic and vic will smash! him with his eyes close
Right you are, but this lacks either. This is just bullshit.
does he think its cool when he play that bunch of nonsense out of tempo super fast lick? Somebody tell him that its not...
Tempo means speed. You can't be out of tempo if you're the only instrument. You can be inconsistent, but he isn't.
superbass340 what an ignorant comment.
No art in just hitting the strings as fast as you can. Who can listen to that for more than 30 seconds?
