dunno if anyone cares but if you're bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my gf these days xD
If you're a bassist skilled with scales and arps on guitar as well, I recommend getting a 7-string bass and tuning it the same as a 7-string guitar: BEADGBE. That's the same as the one in this video with the highest two strings dropped a half step. Then all your chords work! Perfect place to use your higher-voiced drop-2 chords.
All about the bass should cover Bass Vi instruments (bass vi, schecter hellcat vi, Ibanez src6 etc) . It would be nice to get a bass players opinion on these
I would realy like a vid like that would be very interesting. I could tell you how I feel about the Squier Bass VI and the SRC6 (dont own them, just played em in the store): They do not sound that well played through a bass amp, since the shorter scale and the thinner strings thinn out the low end a lot, played like a guitar through a guitar amp and overdriven sounds like hell breaks loose. Especially the SRC6 would probably kill in a Metal Band, and used correctly could replace a bassist. Classic Basslines don't sound that great, but you get the register and the frequencies needed, playing powerchords on these sounds heavy as fuck. Sorry if there are any typos, english is not my first language
I actually owned the 7 string (BTB747) for a short period of time. Beautiful tone but the combination of 7 strings plus it being a 35" inch scale bass made it killer on the hands when playing anything in the low register for a long period of time.
Smashing video gents! Best one yet, among an already amazing catalog of videos. Extra kudos to Lee's sweet demeanor for, how should I put this, always remaining positive during the dynamics of the conversations. Cheers!
Ah, now you're talking my language. I love my six string bass. Haven't tried playing a seven string yet. I guess I still have something to live for. LOL
I imagine it is done all fourths because a bass will be played differently than a guitar. The change to a high b string helps with bar chords, but you will not be strumming chords on a bass. This is definitely geared towards the jazz bassist, who will be soloing. This allows a seamless transition while playing a difficult lick. It goes all fourths because the third between the e and b would just be useless.
I remember trying to play that Ibanez 6 String at my local music shop, its was absolutely insane although I did love having the extra strings for a larger range however. I'm new so its just still a little unwieldy for me.
Did not even research the 806, just saw it and a month later bought it, with promise to myself that this is the last bass I am buying without selling one to pay for another, O am at 6 as of right now, I think, Lol !!!! Plays great...Love the neck!
Did anyone else catch that he said "open the low end". Lol almost spilled my coffee. Other than that, thanks for the video and keep up the amazing work as always
So this one was out before (with different pickups, it seems like) and a slightly different bevel. I have it right here. Also, the bassist of Veil of Maya plays one (to solo along with the guitarists, he said).
Are 7 string basses recommended? There is one Ibanez BTB 747 for sale where I live in, and they are pretty rare, hard to find. Yet I'm not sure if it is worth the investment (almost 1,050 $us). I'm a bassist with guitar skills as well, I can play both no problem. I mostly play rock/metal but I can also play other genres.
You can find them used on reverb for $550 bc no, they’re not really worth it for most people. The extra string is conventionally a high F, not anything lower than the B…They buy one and realize it’s a lot of high end and most bassists just won’t use it - and simply take the L. But for the few that do, this is absolutely ace.
Hi I have an ibanez 6 string bass and on the back it says: ibanez=(custom)-(ORT231215x10-7) that -7 looks smaller than the rest of letters, what does all that mean?
I own this bass, factory gauges are .020p/.032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130 and yes, fanned frets work very well. I have a strandberg boden 8 string, the higher scale length on bottom for lower tones combined with the playablity on top makes such a welcomed difference. Sorry for bringing this up 3 months late
If you just wanna dip your toes into 7 string territory though: Get the Harley Benton 7 string for a third of the price. If you know that this is something you wanna do: get the Ibby, it's amazing. Or if you're rolling around in cash have GNG build you one :D
the all big question would be.... what kind of drumcomputer is used..... it would be a small thing to add into the description just as describing the basses....
Just custom build your set, really. The bottom 5 strings are the exact same you'd find for a 5 string bass, which are plenty common. And then the upper two strings, the C and F are easy enough to find, as they really are just regular guitar gauges. It's not too difficult to get a 7 string set put together.
Matt Chapman Obviously you will have to go online, ( I have to go online to find good strings for my 6-string bass) but they are out there in a set. (It isn't necessary to go into Frankenstein mode).
I mute my strings with my thumb and pinky finger on my 5 string. I can’t use my palm because it feels strange but it produces the same muted effect. I would presume you could transfer that technique to these 6 and 7 stringed basses.
Unfortunately, an octave lower than 8 string guitars is right on the cusp of being inaudible to humans. That's an F#0, which is about 23hz, the lowest we can hear is an E0, at roughly 20hz, or one octave below a standard bass. While it'd be interesting, we wouldn't be able to hear it as much as we'd feel it, which I guess has it's uses but very niche.
royalcat10 - yeah I had the Dingwall basses in mind. However, playing at the same octave makes the mix too thin. What I do is play a 4 string tuned the same as the lowest 4 strings and then generate a sub octave and mix them together. So you have the clarity of the higher octave with the feeling of the lower octave. There are some bands that do have the bass tuned that low though. Even then, I have the 8 string tuned to DGDGCFAD for my own music.
Need a 7 string fretless from Ibanez with 24 frets (if they could go 28 frets would be cool but their pickup and overall design doesn't make that look likely, happy they consistently do 24)
I don't want more high strings,I want more BOTTOM END IN THE BASSMENT,can anyone clarify is the low B as low as it goes, regardless of whether you are playing a 5,6,or 7,if I am a BASS player why would I want extra strings that are venturing into guitar string territory??? I wouldn't,so if someone out there could clear that up for me,it would be much appreciated.Cheers peeps!😁
I think there exist basses with a low F# string but they are rare and super expensive. More people just use a 5 or 6 string bass with heavy gauge strings , down tune them to whatever they need, and adjust the truss rod for the increased tension. Extra long scale basses (35+”) really lend themselves well to very low tunings.
EpictheEpicest I don't remember my 2010 ashula being light, but it had the best jazz Bass sound ever, may have been the Sonic arch pickups or maybe it was the extra wood, but it was the best
The more strings the merrier. I'm 5 foot 5 and weigh a mere 105 pounds and I have no trouble wearing my ESP six string bass for two or three hours at a time.
Cool video, great playing. It's a bit misleading to outright claim that a bass with more than 5 strings isn't for people with small hands. With proper technique, most players would be able handle a 6 or 7 string. An Ibanez SR506 was my first extended range bass 10+ years ago; now my co-main bass is a Dingwall ABZ6, and I'm 5'6'', with average (not large, but not 'presidential' small) hands.
I don't feel bass players go crazy to buy Ibanez basses. They look kind of too tiny like a toy compared at other bass brands like EBMM Bongo or fender Jazz bass. As a big guy the shape is not the right fit... I do like the jack lock female receptor option in the BTB premium model, I think I am buying the Ibanez SRMS806 6 String Bass Brown Topaz Burst...
"Standard" long scale six string bass tuning is BEADGC, you'd probably be more interested in a Fender Bass VI that's pretty much a regular standard tuned guitar stretched out to 30" and tuned an octave down with heavier strings.
TBH You can tune a bass exactly how you want. I played bass tuned CGCFA in an old band, following the guitars. But, for the OP, bass plays and sounds a hell of a lot different to guitar. Once guitars go much over 27 inch scale they also start to sound weird esp. the unwound strings (the whole harp/piano thing Lee mentions here) as the overtones the strings generate change. Works with bass better than guitar IMO.
MR_BEETROOT I suppose you could. But the thing is, as 6-string bass player, I'm not trying to step on the guitar player's toes. I'm still staying in my lane as a bass player. The extra strings just add flexibility, especially in smaller groups. It really is more of an instrument for jazz fusion, or gospel. Hope that answers your question.
My biggest issue with some of those SR basses is the thinness of the finish. I've seen so many on the used market or even as floor models with finish worn through to the wood. Some of this year's models have the thicker finish but I would never buy the SR500 or the old fanfret model for that reason.
GOT TO PLAY ONE OF THESE TODAY, THE Ibanez BTB1936, SUNSET. I FELL IN LOVE AND HAVE TO HAVE ONE NOW. I DON'T PLAY BASS AND AM JUST LEARNING GUITAR. MUST FIND A BAG FULL OF MONEY. IF ANYONE SEES A BAG FULL OF CASH, IT'S MINE. LOL! SERIOUSLY, IT'S MY TIME TO LEARN ALL THAT THERE IS TOO LEARN. COVID HAS MADE A NEW PERSON OUT OF THIS OLD MUSICIAN.
You could land a jet on that fretboard, damn
havent seen davie504's 24 string then
Teen Wizarth I assume you don’t know Scott Plummer then (and is death metal)
Ahahaa 😆
There are no wrong notes
Only jazz
I though jazz was when you were playing all the right notes at all the right times, and it still sounds weird. LOL. Just kidding.
Jazz is knowing what you're doing, all the while sounding like you don't lmfao
When you're not playing jazz, there damn sure are wrong notes. Lots in big band jazz, too. I know. I've found them all.
Tarkenton there is no jazz there is only buckethead
dunno if anyone cares but if you're bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my gf these days xD
what a nice intro jam!
Outro jam was sick too.
When you're not playing these basses work double time as ironing boards.
Hahaha with a 16,5mm string spacing you still have a chance with the 6, I had one with 19mm, my hand hurt but the shirts were always so neat...
And that's just the necks...
Yup. I have a TRB6P which is basically a coffee table with frets ...
lol”
OR LANDING STRIPS FOR 757'S.

I like the tuning with the high C pretty much. Because I am skilled with scales ;)
All about the bass should cover Bass Vi instruments (bass vi, schecter hellcat vi, Ibanez src6 etc) . It would be nice to get a bass players opinion on these
Would love something like that, I think they only stock bass vi's at andertons though
I would realy like a vid like that would be very interesting. I could tell you how I feel about the Squier Bass VI and the SRC6 (dont own them, just played em in the store):

I loved the beginning, the low end on the rhythm bass was amazing.
Dudes, I'm not a bass player but I LOVE your videos. Always fun and ALWAYS awesome tunes and playing. 👍👍
I actually owned the 7 string (BTB747) for a short period of time. Beautiful tone but the combination of 7 strings plus it being a 35" inch scale bass made it killer on the hands when playing anything in the low register for a long period of time.

Needs more Veil of Maya for that 7 string
BUT DOES IT DJENTTTTT
Do you guys prep your opening numbers or come up with them on the spot? They are always so good.
I would assume there's a lot of filming with them jamming and they take the best bits and put that in the video.
Ah, now you're talking my language. I love my six string bass. Haven't tried playing a seven string yet. I guess I still have something to live for. LOL
Whatever you two are playing, is a badass song!!!! That low end from the 6 is spot on
I love the Soundgear basses.
I have two old fives, an SR1305 and a fretless (defretted) SR05 (Ex Dave Pegg as it happens) .
Love 'em
I imagine it is done all fourths because a bass will be played differently than a guitar. The change to a high b string helps with bar chords, but you will not be strumming chords on a bass. Can't argue with the value for what you're getting. I came for the playing and the banter.
Fantastically musical intro jam. Lovely stuff!
The 300 series now has jatoba fretboards
I use a 6 in a lot of theatre gigs because they don't think of bass players when they write the bass parts in musicals 🙄
the intro was kick-ass
*_Big Bottom intensifies_*
That opening jam was freakin amazing. I rewatched it like 5 times.
I have loved my sr506 for over a decade. First bass I ever bought (though if I could do it again, I wouldn't have started with a six string)
You learned to play on a 6 string?
I only watch these videos because of Nathan and Lee!
Maybe you guys should try the Ibanez gvb, see what you think about the narrower string spacing
17:45 I think the show you maybe looking for is "tinga tinga tales". Brings back memories...
Awesome video guys!
Lads that intro 👌🏻 I literally watched it 4 times straight.. soo good...
First time I haven’t skipped the intro in a while... well done!
The brown and black sound very good
Very Awesome Guitar ,great Sound and thanks Andertons for playing that Guitar. Keep those Guitar reviews coming out.
I remember trying to play that Ibanez 6 String at my local music shop, its was absolutely insane although I did love having the extra strings for a larger range however. I'm new so its just still a little unwieldy for me.
Nice Wolf Alice nod in the intro jam.
I love that 7 string. I got to get one.
Beautiful Tone Iba!!!
Wait, it'sa BTB so it has the large string spacing AND it's a 7 string?
despite being a BTB, the 7 string version has 15.5mm spacing.
Kich I see.
SRs have 16.5 on 5 and 6 strings
BTBs have 19 on 5, 17 on 6 and 15.5 on 7 strings.
Thank Jaco!
Aren't the 5 and 6 btbs 18mm?
Tiago It's on the ibanez site. That's where I did my little research.
The new fretboards are jatoba; that's why they look light compared to rosewood. Supposedly, it's better for midrange and sustain.
What was the signal chain on these? Great sounds! Thx
Did not even research the 806, just saw it and a month later bought it, with promise to myself that this is the last bass I am buying without selling one to pay for another, O am at 6 as of right now, I think, Lol !!!! Plays great...Love the neck!

Great jam and audio!!
Beautiful into
I thought my ltd 6 string bass had a massive neck that’s immense I’d love to have a go on that, wicked vid and playing as usual guys !!!
Make that first jam a full song please
Listen to blush by wolf Alice. That main melody is based on it.
Thats awesome. Love the intro.
Will you guys ever do a review on a schecter hellraiser c-1 fr?
So this one was out before (with different pickups, it seems like) and a slightly different bevel.
I have it right here.
Also, the bassist of Veil of Maya plays one (to solo along with the guitarists, he said).
CAN YOU ALL DO A VIDEO ON THE NEW IBANEZ BTB 7MS 7 STRING BASS?
Love my BTB 747 Ibbys are either some of the best or worst basses you’ll ever have the oppertunity to own
Are you using a different amp/cab to cover those frequencies? What amp are you using?
LOL Nate, couldn't find an Ibanez mug for this one?! Great playing, and great video as per usual.
That was amazing.

HI GUYS ALWAYS LOVING YOUR PLAYING,HAVE A?HOW DO IBANEZ BASSES HAVE ALL THAT LOW-END GROWL and Don't EVEN HAVE A HIGH-MASS BRIDGE,how do they DO IT?
Did they add a string deeper than the B string, or did they add higher strings for them?
The 6-string adds a high C and the 7-string adds a high F
Hey, Nathan is back!
Hi I have an ibanez 6 string bass and on the back it says: ibanez=(custom)-(ORT231215x10-7) that -7 looks smaller than the rest of letters, what does all that mean?
String sizes on the 7-string? I have a Conklin... Do those slanted frets really work?
I own this bass, factory gauges are .020p/.032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130
and yes, fanned frets work very well. I have a strandberg boden 8 string, the higher scale length on bottom for lower tones combined with the playablity on top makes such a welcomed difference. Sorry for bringing this up 3 months late
What brand bass guitar stand?
I would never give your playing a thumbs down but I did to the tone of that 7 string...
that 7 string is lookin THICCCCCCCC 😍
“It’s EB, for Weathered Ebony. Or, I guess that would be WB”
Never change, guys
If you just wanna dip your toes into 7 string territory though:
Get the Harley Benton 7 string for a third of the price.
If you know that this is something you wanna do: get the Ibby, it's amazing.
Or if you're rolling around in cash have GNG build you one :D

the all big question would be.... what kind of drumcomputer is used..... it would be a small thing to add into the description just as describing the basses....
Hey my bass is behind the guy playn the 7
Is it just me or is Lees bass panned to the right and and Nathans mostly in the center?
Bravissimi 👏
Next time, make a six strings shootout with four bass guitar company (Ibanez,Yamaha, etc). Which bass guitar have a best sound?
Zoltán Balla-Farkas Yamaha
TRB6P fretted and fretless version, and the TRB1006J. They are unbelieveable sound. Oh , i forgot the John Patitucci signature model.
Where to get 7 string sets?
Matt Chapman from the Golden Gate Bridge

Amazon (dot) com.
how the hell do you mute an instrument like that?
Very carefully.
Ilias liakos capo
You will need to get used to the “floating thumb” technique.
I mute my strings with my thumb and pinky finger on my 5 string. I can’t use my palm because it feels strange but it produces the same muted effect. I would presume you could transfer that technique to these 6 and 7 stringed basses.
With proper technique developed through practice. Practicing with headphones helps really isolate parts of your technique you need to work on.
Was thinking one of them might be an extra long scale bass to tune an octave down below 8 string guitars. :(
Unfortunately, an octave lower than 8 string guitars is right on the cusp of being inaudible to humans. That's an F#0, which is about 23hz, the lowest we can hear is an E0, at roughly 20hz, or one octave below a standard bass. Andertons Music Co With that many strings I find it easier to use a Pick.
I want the 7 string so bad
So John Myung of Dream Theater uses 6 string basses, who else uses 6+ string basses?
The Inebriati thundercat, John Pattituchi, Anthony Jackson.
Look at Jeff Hughell from Six Feet Under. He uses 7-strings Warwick. Or Alexey Zavolokin with his 7-strings Ibanez BTB on Nu Funk track.
Linus Klausenitzer from Obscura plays a 7-string fretless BTB.
Jared Smith from Archspire plays a 6-string Kiesel.
Bill Dickens has been known to use 9-strings.
Me.
The game plan of a fan fret is don’t look down
I find the b string awfully low so a 6 string Bass with EF stringd would be a perfect compromise
Id get a btb7 and put a low f# string on it rather than the high f.
What does that 7 string weigh?
I don't want more high strings,I want more BOTTOM END IN THE BASSMENT,can anyone clarify is the low B as low as it goes, regardless of whether you are playing a 5,6,or 7,if I am a BASS player why would I want extra strings that are venturing into guitar string territory??? Extra long scale basses (35+”) really lend themselves well to very low tunings.
Too many strings! But seriously, having one of those things around your neck for a few hours is going to kill your back.
James Lewis why should someone hit the bass:
play a 7 string bass on your gig - yes
Get bulked - no
James Lewis there's no such thing as too many strings :)
The Ibanez basses tend to be very light, at least the SR series ones. I've had a 6 and a 4 and both were about 8lbs.

Les Claypool would love that 6-string, dude

I have played the 1st few minutes and the last jam back about 25 times in the last 24 hours...
Ibanez list the SR306EB as having a Nyatoh body not a mahogany.
They changed to nyatoh starting in 2019. Up to 2018 they have mahogany bodies.
Do some Gibson sg bass
I don't feel bass players go crazy to buy Ibanez basses. They look kind of too tiny like a toy compared at other bass brands like EBMM Bongo or fender Jazz bass. As a big guy the shape is not the right fit... I do like the jack lock female receptor option in the BTB premium model, I think I am buying the Ibanez SRMS806 6 String Bass Brown Topaz Burst...
can you play a six string base just like a normal guitar, question from a guitar player
If it's tuned EADGBe, then you can kinda play it like a guitar. But the neck's gonna be wider and strings are farther away
"Standard" long scale six string bass tuning is BEADGC, you'd probably be more interested in a Fender Bass VI that's pretty much a regular standard tuned guitar stretched out to 30" and tuned an octave down with heavier strings.

I’m selling one of the black SR306EBs if anyone wants one second hand. It’s fantast.
RIP my fuckin baby hands.
His pinky is the size of my index finger, damn.

Dunno, seems cheaper than paying for it to get reliced.
Me with my 4 string 😯
viewer discretion advised.
From this day forth I will insist that all my bass necks are un-deep.
Wtf I didn't even know these were a thing😁😁😂
I hate it when my tea bag gets in the way.
