Thank you for the video. I have both the SR306EB and the SR305EB, love them both, but the 305 get more playing time. I bought them brand new: They both had setup issues out of the box, but nothing that a good setup couldn't fix. The 306 was about 10% out on intonation, and the C could not be intonated with the original screw. I ordered a longer screw and voila, the C that was way flat got fixed. When setup to my likings they have both performed incredibly well. They are stable instruments. The only thing I touch is the truss rod, everything else stays the same. Wood moves with the seasons. I have two Japanese made Jazz Bass clones from the 70s, they are both great instruments, but they have not seen much use after I got the Ibanez'es 305 and 306. I forgot, I also have a SR370 4-string, but haven't played it on a gig yet 🙂 Greetings from Norway
Hi Jan Thanks for commenting. They’re really solid instruments, yes. I’ve two 305ebs that I use live. Honestly can’t say much bad about them, especially for the price!
bout to get this bass for Christmas and a brand new amp and new strings have an 80 dollar sclarry that's alright but im very excited to try my hand at a 6 string
Love the video Mick, thank you. Far be it from me to criticise and I know you mentioned string action, but it sounded a bit 'fret buzzy' in various places. Might want a little setup?🤔 Love you man!😁
The actions quite high on it, I’d say the strings are just goosed maybe! Plus my technique is absolute pants on this thing, which I’d wager is a good part of it too I’ll treat it to a set and a setup Thanks Toby, right back at ya
Scares the heck out of me! I can't figure the high c string. Of course I've never tried 5 or 6 string. My brain says the highest string would be a B. Because I also play quitar( badly) . Anyhow I still would love to get one and tune it e to e like the bass six but actually d to d as I drop a whole tone on my basses. I like the idea of the fender bass vi but need to investigate more. Very interesting video Mick , I'm really grateful for all your sharing of tips and knowledge. Peace and love brother as always ✌️ ❤️
It’s a head wreck at first, mate Funny enough your brain doesn’t. go to B because you’ll still be thinking in octave shapes But when im playing, I don’t know what the notes are on the C string straight away. I have to think about it and by then it’s too late! 😂😂 Thanks as always for the kind words and support, my friend.
I personally prefer 4 string and funnily enough, also for accessibility, only I very often find extra low string in my way because of how I play. I find it useful sometimes, but more often it's in my way of playing low E string the way I like. Also, I kind of feel opposite about string spacing. This Ibanez looks pretty cool. I have SRF705 fretless, I wish it looked this cool.
I must admit to something of which I’m slightly embarrassed as I comment. I began playing music in 1994, and I have spent the breadth of that time resisting purchasing Ibanez equipment. I have owned a few of their effects generators and enjoyed plugging into them. However, I found myself resisting getting their guitars and basses. Why? Not for a good reason: they seemed to be overly favored by people in my age group and slightly older as a brand focused on quantity of its products over quality. I kind of came to think the same of other makers like PRS, Schechter, Jackson and even Ernie Ball. Watching a demo like this, I started to realize that kind of discrimination is out of line. Does it mean I’ll end up purchasing a guitar or bass built by Ibanez in the foreseeable future? Not necessarily, but I’m no longer foursquare against it.
They are a victim of their own success in many ways. They appealed to a certain demographic maybe, but the consistency and quality of their product has continued to improve. They’re original designs, too, and credit where it’s due there. How many brands are just doing their own take on Fender designs? These are cheaper than the old Japanese models but better in my opinion. Some players think they won’t be taken seriously showing up with an Ibanez bass. Theres a lot of brand snobbery in this business
That is sadly true,@@mindhead2005, and I must sadly admit to having let that snobbery conquer me. It definitely counts for something to know that grandscale professionals have not only played Ibanez instruments (including Mel Schacher of Grand Funk Railroad and Sting) but also (in the cases of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani) had signature-edition models designed for them. I must admit I was tempted by a 5-string bass model with active electronics being marketed by my old retailer back in 2000 (when I got a Deluxe Active Jazz bass instead). If I’d gone with it, that would’ve been a killer model for me that I would still be playing to this date. I let that brand snobbery (and the iconography of Fender) influence my choice.
Never too late! These things are SO inexpensive for what you get The SR300E is the 4 string version and is such good value €350 here!! I’ve been guilty of the same mindset

Great review, showing all the pros and cons and all the available sounds. You helped me a lot to make an educated buying decision 😀
That’s the idea, Tobias, thank you. Very little info out there on these
Excellent review! 👏🏻
Thank you

That’s great. Health to play it
I have a Gio 6 strings myself and I love it.
Gio are so good for the money. Heath to play it

Hi, your Mick Karn/Japan bass lessons have been SO helpful - thank you so much! Would you be able to make a video on David Sylvians "Red Guitar"?
Hey thanks a mill.
Do you mean the bass part
@@mindhead2005 Yeah! I absolutely love the bass part but I’m struggling trying to figure out how to play it especially the chorus 😁
@@nieve777 it’s double bass I think
I was mixing it up with something else
I can do a lesson on Red guitar
@@mindhead2005That would be amazing thanks so much!!!!!!

That’s the f hole one? I think that’s kind of cool in its own way!
The SR370F would be a good compromise?
@@mindhead2005 No, that's not the one, the one with a f hole is piezo only I think, mine is solid body with two Bartolinis plus piezo.
I see it online there, yes. Looks lovely but the sunburst is very conservative maybe?
I like the neck through look on that from the back
@@mindhead2005 Yeah, I'm not a fan of sunburst finishes, otherwise I love it.
Paint it! Get someone to donor for you
Be worth it to have a one-off
Gotta love a 6, if only to scare the guitarist
lol
Hello, did You managed to weight it? Cool review by the way :)
Thank you!
:)
Yes I did!
4.1 kg or 9lb
