- Toy Story is a franchise often loved for the way it has brought toys to life in a way that tickles the imagination. To the shock of many, the video games for them are actually fantastic. Well... most of them. To celebrate Lightyear, let's dive back to games like Buzz Lightyear Star Command all the to the GOAT Toy Story 3.

Fun fact Toy Story 3's toy box mode was actually the jumping off point that Avalanche used to make the Disney Infinity games later. Heck the Toy Story in Space play set could even be seen as a Pseudo sequel to Toy Story 3's toy box mode.

It's not exactly a Toy Story game, but Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure is actually incredible and has some really fun Toy Story levels. And that soundtrack is incredible for that era like most skateboarding games.

As a kid, I spend countless hours playing Toy Story 3 first on the Wii and then on the Xbox 360. One of the best games I’ve ever played. Knew I wasn’t the only person who thought so. Very underrated Classic.

Played toy story 2 on pc to death back in the day, i always remembered the music being so good too!
Btw i recently came across my copy of the original toy story manual in perfect condition. Its crazy to flip through and read today on the setup and customer service wording of the early internet days lol 😄

Almost EVERY game you cover on this channel are games I NO LIFED as a kid, everytime a video drops it's just an instant gateway into nostalgic memories and it always reminds me of all these amazing games and I've revisited many of them at this point due to this channel. Thank you for giving some love to these older games that this new generation never would've even known exist!!
I'm surprised to see Toy Story 2 for PS1 playing on PS4 and PS5 I was so happy I bought that and finished it on my weekend off work. And it's a great refresher if you're hyped for lightyear.
Oh, gosh, Buzz Lightyear To The Rescue was a HUGE staple of my childhood! My bro and I would play that game with our father when we were little kiddos, and we would just have an absolute BLAST! Admittedly, some levels were pretty damn frustrating, so we had to enlist our father's help from time to time. The farthest we got was when we had to fight Zurg on the elevator -- and unfortunately, NEITHER of us could beat him! It wasn't until years later that we finally figured out how to defeat Zurg (thanks to some tips from an online article), and then my bro picked up the game again, beat Zurg, and finally beat the game.

you forgot to mention that on the PS3 version of Toy Story 3 you could play as Zurg!
Still, it's more of a novelty, so I believe you're up to a really fun time with any of the versions.
It's so funny that he's talking about a possible Kingdom Hearts Zurg boss but he missed out on the one time they let us play as Zurg

except if you play the PS2 and PSP versions which are completely different from PC/Wii/PS3/360 TS3 and it has no Toy Box mode and is worse in every way possible.
Also the DS version has no Toy Box mode either.
So the best versions are the PC/PS3/Wii/360 versions developed by Avalanche.
I think it's crazy how much gaming has changed between the different main toy story game releases
The sheer attention to detail in toy box mode is incredible too, there are many events that can happen in your town that make it feel so organic. Not sure how they managed to get this game out so quick, it's genuinely a well crafted game. Thanks for letting people know Matty, I have great childhood memories of that game. Video essays could be made out of it, it's that surprisingly in depth. Can get hours and hours out of it
Lets go! Toy Story 3 is legit, can't wait to see what Avalanche does with a full AAA budget for Hogwarts Legacy!

I'm still looking for games that play like Toy Story 2. The mix of puzzling, platforming and exploration hits the right spot for me
Ape Escape is really fun but a little lighter on the puzzle aspect. Spyro 2 has a ton of puzzles and mini games and it's a lot of fun, probably my favorite platformer from that era
Gex 2 & 3, Banjo-Kazooie, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Donkey Kong 64, and the Sly Cooper series come to mind.
Buzz light year of star command was such a good game when I was growing up and the show. That and toy story 2 were my absolute favourite childhood games. Remember having so much fun playing them.
I remember playing a Toy Story games on the Sega Genesis. It was pretty hard.
I’d love it if you could do a retrospect on the long forgotten Stuart Little games, I remember them being so fun to play
A bit of a bummer the first Toy Story games on the SNES/Genesis weren't covered, but to be fair, these are YOUR memories and experiences.
I was unsurprised to see the Game Boy version of the console games to be such a downgrade with the abysmal framerate and lack of 3D effect trickery the consoles could pull off as I don't blame you being disappointed with your experience. There have been some Game Boy ports that were surprisingly good, but Toy Story obviously was not one of them.
I also remember enjoying Toy Story 2 on the N64, the instrumental loop of "You've Got a Friend In Me" still rings in my head in pure nostalgia.
Sadly I never got a chance to play Toy Story 3, considering I played the first two games and witnessed firsthand while growing up how much games have changed and evolved over the years, it seems I'm horrendously overdue playing this one whenever I'm lucky enough to come across a copy.
It's the exact inverse for me, the Mega Drive Toy Story is the only Toy Story game I ever played.
My little brother was 5 and I was 11 when Toy Story 3 came out, he was a MASSIVE Toy Story fan and got my mam to buy him the game and I got so mad at him for getting it because I always told him not to buy movie tie-ins but my god was I pleasantly surprised by that game, genuinely one of the best games I've ever played.

The Toy Story 2 game was also for Dreamcast! I originally had it for PS1 but when my dad snagged a Dreamcast this was one of the games that i got with it. I felt it played better on the Dreamcast then the PS1 but I could def be wrong on that.

The analog controls are fucked (Buzz won't move straight if you're using the analog stick unless you use the Dreamcast's uncomfortable d-pad)
While the PS1 and N64 versions were technically impressive graphics-wise, the Dreamcast version doesn't look any better than the PS1 and N64 versions.
Also while there was no fog in the PS1 and N64 versions, Dreamcast version for some reason adds more fog to some of the levels (LIKE SERIOUSLY THE DREAMCAST IS MORE POWERFUL THAN PS1 AND N64 WHY DO THEY NEED FOG WHEN THOSE OLDER GEN VERSIONS DIDN'T NEED IT AND RAN FINE)
It’s wild how similar me and Mattys childhood gaming experience was, we played all the same games lol, warms my heart that I’m not the only person that remembers the greatness of Toy Story 3

I remember playing the toys story 3 game and it was so awesome to play I would play that game for hours and days it was one of my favourites Pixar xbox 360 game ever and the amount of achievements that toys story 3 has is crazy sometime I would get stuck on one achievement that I went to go watch a walkthrow just to get this 1 achievement it’s crazy toy story 3 is one of the best game the best Pixar game Xbox 360 game ever

I was helping my parents clean out their basement a couple months ago and found my old ps1 with a bunch of games. Toy Story 2 was one of them lol

Toy Story 3 is a classic game from my childhood. Glad I finally finished it this year after nearly ten years of owning the game.
I remember 10 years ago when I was still a child I played a Toys Story game that have graphics that looks like the Toys Story 3 game but it was completely different in terms of gameplay and it was on a orange plug and play console with a joystick in the middle, and apparently no one except for me remember such game existed
There was also a toy story video game called "Toy Story Mania" that was like playing carnival games. As well as a DS version of Toy Story 3.
Very much familiar with the “Toy Story Mania” game. Definitely a fun alternative if you aren’t gonna visit Disney World anytime soon.

Loved playing Toy Story 2 on N64! Wish Nintendo released it on the Wii's Virtual Console, along with MegaMan 64 and Star Wars Rogue Squadron. I also remember playing the Toy Story 1 PC game a lot whenever my mom dropped me off at the Eagle's Nest at Giant Eagle. Good times.
Toy story 2 was the best, but the buzz light year was underrated as a kid. I loved that game.
I hope you are referring to the movie, because Toy Story 2 is the best movie, but the video game is not even close to as perfect as the toy story 3 video game is.

Toy story 3 is such an underrated gem of a game it's so good, you are the first person who I've ever seen talk about the game and the fact that your talking so highly of it and calling it the best movie tie in game makes me so happy that someone else feels the same way I do about the game

Toy story 2 for N64 was one of the first games I got as a present the Christmas I got an n64! I still have it CIB. Such a fun game. I never picked up toy story 3, but now I’m going to!

i recently beat toy story 3, i've had the game since it came out and the witch level was a pain in the butt. but i have very fond memories of racing bullseye around the map and playing on the racing course. doing flips and all sorts of things on the ramps
Story Time: As a kid, my mom, sister and I were at our new school for a new year orientation and I had my GBA and Toy Story 2 (may have had other games, but I was obsessed with Toy Story at the time). The night goes on and when the event ends, when everyone's leaving, my mom and sister go to the bathroom first. I'm SO focused on trying to progress in the game, I don't think to let anyone know that we're still inside so for a brief moment we got locked in the school. That whole ordeal got my Game Boy confiscated for quite a bit and its the most vivid memory of TS2 GBC I'll EVER have.
Toy Story 3 on the PS3 is the first game I ever played and loved that made me who I am today. I still come back to it nowadays
This is so true TS3 slaps.. I literally can not get my girlfriend to play red dead redemption or GTA or any other games that I play.. bit just the other day I fired up TS3 and started playing the toy box mood and my girl literally took it over.. I am banned from playing that mode and have been told only to play the story mode, I'm only allowed to play when she is stuck on a certain task😅😅😅 she is fully invested.. I told her she is a complete game head now.. I recommend TS3 for any guy who wants to show their girl how beautiful and addictive gaming can be

Toy Story 2 on N64 was the first rental I ever beat. I loved that game.
Beat toy story 3 twice with my cousin as a kid. I’m 20 now and recently played it again with my 6 year old nephew. Great game, love that it’s enjoyable for everyone regardless of age

Wow Matty, so when I was a kid my dad had a star castle arcade cabinet that he put a pc in with all kinds of emulators for all the old arcade, SNES, NES, N64, and Atari games. He also had some random games from other consoles in the giant list, and among my favorites was Toy Story 2 for the PS1. You gave me such a huge blast from the past talking about that game. I'm pretty sure as a maybe 6 year old kid, I never even made it out of the house. But I played that game so much lmao. Thanks for the Retro Rebound I just felt haha

How in the hell had you never heard of the Buzz Lightyear cartoon from the 00s? The movie, the TV show it spawned and especially the game were staples of my childhood. It just makes it that much more of a crime that the TV show is currently unavailable in any media format.
It's on RUclips to watch, but I do share your frustration in him not knowing about the show. I get that younger people aren't going to know, but for someone who is a huge Toy Story fan I find it hard to believe he never heard of the show. It does make his excitement for Lightyear make sense though, a shiny turd looks like a diamond to those who don't know any better.

Apparently Pixar wasn't really a fan of the show because it was made by Disney and not them. But it's funny because it respected the Buzz Lightyear lore more than Pixar's own film. I feel like it will get put on Disney+ eventually but they didn't want too many comparisons between it and Lightyear so they held off. Even the director of Lightyear mentions the cartoon in an interview. He said that he feels like Lightyear was a film that came out in the 80s and Andy must've watched it on TV or something. Then they made a cartoon in the 90s which is what the Buzz and Zurg toys in Toy Story are based on (why they don't look like the Lightyear versions of the characters)

My favourite game out of those has to be the 3rd one, I remember being super excited when I first got it and spent hours of grinding through both the story and the toy box mode. The PS3 and Xbox versions of the game are solid masterpieces as the developers went all out making them. Even tho the game is over a decade old it still competes with newly released games today with the creativity it has.
I have big nostalgia for Toy Story 3, it was the first video game my Stepdad bought me and my brothers. We call it the Disney Infinity predecessor

What a crazy coincidence, I was rewatching the toy story franchise with my daughter this week and I got to remembering how awesome toy story 3 the game was. My brother got it as a birthday gift and I ended up playing it so much! I wanted to buy it again so I went to the PlayStation store on ps5 and was super disappointed to find out the game is not there. I had no idea it was backwards compatible on Xbox so now I’m going to check and buy it asap I had so much fun and put so much time into that sandbox mode

I kinda remember playing Toy Story 1 on my cousins’ PC as a kid (then played it on an emulator many years later). Then quite a few years later I got Toy Story 3 on the Wii. Haven’t played the TS2 game yet sadly.

To this day I have to agree Toy Story 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. It's literally my childhood in the later years. I honestly wanna replay it for a 4th time now even though I like 100% completed (I think) back in 2020.
I listen to Sacred Symbols and heard "Matty" get referred to every once in a while, and it took me until I saw Colin right behind you at that presentation to realize they were referring to you. It's funny, I've listened to SS and watched this channel completely independently and never made the connection XD
I still remember playing Toy Story 3 on the switch, chose it over Mario Galaxy for whichever reason besides it was a game I thought I'd like. I still don't regret that decision, even if it was a difficult one at the time
