as much as i agree with everything in this video i would still love to see this game remade if not only to see it with the new engine graphics, that's my biggest reason why i would want this game remade.
Thanks to God that the third type of cutscenes or the camera isn't a problem in the titles after it.
I think KH1 is definitely the most charming and unique KH game of the bunch. It was so well made that people are still finding new things about it. I’m also of the “I wouldn’t mind seeing a remake” take but any remake wouldn’t replace the original. It would be so well done if we got a remake that I think it would be incredibly fun but I don’t think it’s needed either. I would also much rather them focus on new games like KH4 or missing link, OR remake something that absolutely needs a remake like Union Cross. I think we probably will get a remake at some point but it’s not needed and it won’t happen anytime soon.

I’ve been echoing this same sentiment for years and completely agree. KH1’s artstyle and charm are timeless and have had the benefit of still being very accessible. I was actually stoked when they unveiled Melody of Memory’s “old school” render of KH3 Kairi. The combat isn’t even that clunky, especially once you obtain new abilities and combo modifiers.
Just like you said, the only KH games that would be worth having a remake of are the DS and Mobile titles.
Union X especially. That lore is so deep and implicative for the future of the series that it feels like a disservice to keep it locked away behind a closed gachapon.

I think they should remake kh days or allow it to be on the PS and playable I mean they did that for ddd and chain of memories.
But I personally fine with kh 1 the old style and things just remind me of a time that Sora was still learning in kh 1 and I absolutely adore the game its still my favorite kh game.

Since I played this game for the first time ever only a few years ago, i can say that a new and more streamlined looking KH1 is NOT needed. even thought I played the final mix of 1, I still appreciated the older graphics and gameplay because it's what gives the game character. If not for it, then we wouldn't have the mega franchise that exsists today! Solid opinion Key!

I mean if we did get a remake of KH1 the only reasons I would want it is a better camera similar to KH2 or make synthesizing the Ultima Weapon easier. Like for example instead of getting the special heartless sometimes, how about all the time? Other than that I am fine with the game as is, I enjoyed the gameplay. Yes it is not exactly the best, but I found it enjoyable. You know what other titles are more deserving of a remake? 358/2 Days, Re:Coded, Union X, Dark Road.

Key! Hell yeah man you make valid points! Besides, the HD remixes of the games are kind of remakes in a way? With the HD textures and some QoL improvements they are definitely the definitive versions of the games. Some people enjoy playing games on the original hardware from the original version of the game in discussion though which I can relate to full heartedly! Ocarina of Time being remade for 3DS was absolutely phenomenal and I loved every bit of it, yet for whatever reason I still prefer the original 1.0 version of the game on the N64. Crash Bandicoot trilogy remake was a godsend for me and its amazing to see those games given the love and support they deserve in HD visuals and whatnot, yet the PS1 originals are still something I cling to.
In the end though, I do agree with you that they shouldn't remake it if their intentions for it are bad for the series. If it was purely to give the game a visual update but everything else was the same I might be on board. Either way, awesome video Key! Keep it up.

I 100% agree with this. This game doesn't need a remake. If it ain't broke dont fix it. Remakes in my opinion for the series to me slow down new games that need the spotlight. Re Coded is a game I would like a remake & if not remake an hd reboot to the console since I'm certain there were some stuff for the handheld they wanted to add in there but probably didn't have any space or time.

It doesn't. The only game that does though is 358/2 Days. There's been a massive outcry for Days to get a full fledge remake to get the full experience. The story for that is one of the bests, the characters are well done, and I enjoyed the gameplay. But it does deserve a remake in HD and playable, both versions of Chain of Memories' gameplay was horrendous (I just hate card mechanics, and I wished it was abandoned from combat, and get rid of the Disney worlds since they serve no purpose at all, and just play exactly like KH1). BBS got it's remixed game, and same goes for Dream Drop. Days deserves it as well

Usually big fans of a franchise want a remake or remaster of their favorite games. So its interesting to hear the opposite from you. They might as well work on the DS games since those havent really seen the light of modern day.
I love Metroid Return of Samus (Metroid II remake) on the 3Ds but i always find myself booting up the original and playing that one. I guess we like to stick to the version we originally played lol.
Yeah it's just that the remake treatment is definitely more deserved for other games in the series and KH1 just doesn't have enough wrong with it to warrant a remake

no it wasn't
Kh1 final mix is just the original version but with additions. It also came out in like 2004 shortly after KH1 vanilla came out but we in the west didn’t get it until 2013~ with 1.5 hd remix. Final mix and the HD remix are considered Remasters instead of remakes. A Remake would take the same story but completely rework it from the ground up. For example, KH4 style cutscenes, brand new gameplay reminiscent of kh2 or kh3. Expanded cutscenes or entirely different cutscenes from the original etc.

To be honest I tried to start with KH 1 but for some reason I don't remember, I got too lost in destiny islands so I decided to play KH rechain of memories and after I finished it, I forgot to try to finish KH1 again so I finished KH2 instead then I finally remembered to finish KH1 😅😅😅😅😅

Unrelated but since kh 0.2 takes place at the same time as kh1 could you do a video on how they are both concurrent with each other it may be a little tricky because time in the realm of darkness flows differently

My biggest critique is the jumping physics. It's so janky. I remember jumping to a chest, but I was at the back of it, and I literally took an hour to fix that, because the jumping was so bad. 4:03
Yep the jumps do be janky, but I forgive it honestly for it being the first of it's kind
A 1 To 1 Remake With No Story Changes Would Be Amazing In My Opinion & I'll Die On That Hill. Just Make It In Unreal Engine 5 & We're Solid
They couldn't do a 1 to 1 remake because of them losing the rights to Tarzan and I also just can't imagine it being in unreal engine. I've seen mods try it and it just feels off to me but to each their own

Wouldn’t really need a remake per say but I think it needs a remaster or improvements like fixing the absolute dogshit camera. It is honestly the worst camera I have had to deal with in a video game.
Does it NEED a remake? Nah. Would it be nice to see it get the modern TLC that other remaster have gotten? Absolutely. Just give me Missing Link and KH4 first Square I'M BEGGING

All this and also the fact that a (unnecesary) remake like that would be taking attention away from projects that could push the series forward. Knowing they'd probably try to modernize KH1's gameplay to fit the 3 mold, it would also be weird to see KH1 Sora be as or more fluid than his counterparts in 2-3
