If memory serves, Cecil being manipulated by royalty is actually a plot point in FF4, which would make him being Prince John's pawn make sense. Also, realistically, gameplay would probably be like Secret of Mana, since that was a Square game that came out in the earlier part of the 90s and, gameplay-wise, was kind of a predecessor to Kingdom Hearts.
This is amazing creative. I expected it to be more like, “what if KH was a turn based Sprite game”, but this is 10,000 times more imaginative. Loved it!

22:50 Games rarely ever do this, but I think it'd be cool if Sora said "Hey, that's like the name of my raft!" in a cutscene if you kept the name the same. If you changed the name, he'd say something like, "Oh that's a cool name." So your choice of naming the raft/default gummi ship affects that cutscene too! It'd also be fun if there was no default name for the raft, and the cutscene secret was just one that gets discovered by players later on. You'll also voice the DYKG video that talks about this.
In the jungle book world, the crew could stay normal because there are humans and I don't think it would be too out of place to that worlds inhabitants.
i think since most of the characters in the actual story are animals it would make sense to have transformations there. otherwise they wouldnt be able to interact with most of the important cast at all, which would make the world pointless.
Plus, Baloo walks on two legs despite being an animal, so even if Sora has to transform to fit in, it’s not like he has to use a different moveset like Lion Sora

There's something weirdly charming about a KH game that makes use of Dark Age/pre-Renaissance films for its tentpole worlds. Jungle Book, Robin Hood, Great Mouse Detective, and Black Cauldron are usually seen as kinda-skippable Disney films, but I honestly feel like they'd make really great KH worlds and I'd be happy to see them in the post-KH3 canon if possible. You made some inspired choices here -- Figment as a new summon, the use of Sherwood Forest as the analogous coliseum, and an aged-up Arthur as the Hollow Bastion party member are the main ones that came to my mind!
A thought that comes up with Fox and the Hound as a possible option for the first game and the first game only is the idea of fate and destiny tearing two friends apart to play their roles in a world they don't fully understand yet. I don't think there's a great deal of potential for a world for the game to play through, but there's some parallels that could be heartbreaking.

Kind of like Scar but with an actual visual change to show he's given in to the darkness, give him yellow pupils with black sclera and make the remains of his cape into a flowing shadow cape.
The Final Fantasy Characters switch up was the most interesting part, Cecil would fit perfectly since KH is about Light and Darkness. Riku and Cecil would get along really well, as with Rydia and Kairi and Sora and Luneth.

Huh, this was interesting. A few things I feel I want to say: 1. Does Sora really need a transformation in Jungle Book? It is a world that humans inhabit. 2. Wouldn't Maid Marion make for a better choice of princess? I guess we can't just remove Ariel as a party member and make her a princess huh... I also would think having Robin as a party member would be pretty cool and not make Sora a transformation (everyone would assume he's just some kind of monkey, make a running gag out of that.) 3. Not sure how licensing would work for the great mouse detective, I am not sure how Disney got the rights for rodent Sherlock in the first place, gotta add Arthur Conan Doyle to the credits when you load up the game? 4. Does Beauty and the Beast have to go? They don't have a whole world, just two characters.
I mean, Disney lost the rights for Edgar Rice Burroughs' works after KH1, maybe Great Mouse Detective would end up as the Tarzan "forgotten world" of the series.
90% of the characters in the jungle book movie are not human therefore there would be no real plot they could explore if sora is human in that world. most of the plot of the first jungle book movie is in the jungle with the animals. a downside to the original deep jungle was the fact that he couldnt talk to any of the gorillas but at least there are prominent human characters in tarzan. there arent a lot of human characters in the first jungle book movie.
I love everything about this concept and video. The only thing I would change is giving Prof. Ratigan a more prominent role. He might not be the biggest, but he’s the most intelligent out of the Disney Villains. After all, he’s “The World’s Greatest Criminal Mind”. If he found out about “other worlds” he wouldn’t be content on just ruling his own. And a Kingdom literally called Kingdom Hearts would be ripe for the taking. Much like Maleficent, he would want to roam world to world, using his small stature to gather intelligence on the inhabitants. He would cozy up and work for Maleficent for her power, much like Pete, with the eventual end goal of betraying her. And if a Disney Princess can talk to mice, why can’t a Disney Villain talk to “Big Mice”. His story would happen more or less how you described, except he would fake his death and be portalled out of there after falling off of Big Ben, either by himself or with Maleficent’s help. He would then spend the rest of the series doing Maleficent’s bidding, biding his time and manipulating others from behind the scenes. Now if you don’t think Ratigan would be up to all this, well I say the man was voiced by Vincent Price and that alone should qualify him. But if you need more evidence, there are actually deleted lines to his villain song. Cecil being manipulated by Prince John isn't newer to my brain. Cecil does fulfill the wishes of an evil king at the start of his game, so it actually works pretty well!
It would play probably play like secret of mana or tales of Phantasia. The Disney worlds would be included would different tho like no nightmare before Christmas or Hercules or Tarzan (tho that’s nothing new)

It's likely that Black Cauldron isn't mentioned anymore for legal reasons since the setting is owned by the original author of the novels. Also, Setzer is designed by Testuya Nomura so Vivi is the only non-Nomura designed character from FF.
Wizard of Oz would be a shoo-in, then! And they could do some amazing stuff with Game Central Station from Wreck-It Ralph, like actually have Mario show up. :D
If I were you I would've kept the Quadrapedal worlds even after putting Jungle Book in the line up since you could realistically have Sora be a human in there and just change Donald and Goofy into actual animals which I think could make it worth it for the visual alone. SDG could meet with Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera, who decide to go with SDG (with only Baloo or Mowgli actually being in the party). It could really be an interesting dynamic with Sora indirectly setting off the plot of the movie in this hypothetical, telling Mowgli about all kinds of things humans have and do, sparking him to want to go back to the world of man.
I feel like if Square really did team up with Disney for a 1992 release it would have been closer to Super Mario RPG but with an entirely Mickey-based setting and cast of characters.
This got me thinking about building a whole Kingdom Hearts side story around Kairi as a keyblade wielder; it’s maybe not like Riku going through his own play through in worlds Sora has visited but mixing in new stuff. Though, my obvious biases make it very difficult for me not to use Black Cauldron, Rescuers, or more modern Disney movies like Zootopia or Moana.
It’s kinda funny how well Firion and Cecil work as a Squall/Cloud switch out. Hell maybe instead of Golbez you’d fight Cecil’s dark Knight form to play into his dark side you see in the opening of the game when he works for the evil empire. Paladin (his post character development class upgrade) could be the regular design like how Cloud was based on his newer Advent children design.
The Main Characters from Lady and The Tramp, the Aristocrats, Fox and the Hound (as much as I'd like to see it get its world featured in a future kh game, although its unlikely) and Oliver and Company are more likely to be summons in a future KH game.
No need for the "(and Setzer)" correction when it came to non-Nomura characters, as he actually was made and designed by him. Even though Amano was still the lead character designer of VI, both Setzer and Shadow were Nomura creations, which is why he wound up using the former for KH2.
This is both a really interesting way to create a different style of the game, and also a reminder that there should have been some more early Disney and Final Fantasy content in the series.
I especially would have loved, loved, LOVED to see some of these cameos from earlier Final Fantasy in the actual games. I'm way more familiar with the pre-FF6 games than the post-FF6 ones (thanks to the GBA), so appearances by Cecil and a secret boss fight with Golbez would have me out of my seat with excitement!! Even the FF2 characters like Firion and the pirate lady, I would be like WHA-----!?!? Aw, if only.... x'D
It was released in 2002 and it was likely actually sometime around 2000 that development actually started, so Square and Disney both were still riding high on the successes of the mid-late 90s, is my bet for what happened.
14:50 since Cloud's whole part of the story was struggling between light and darkness, this could be a Cecil who is still struggling with the morality of his actions. He seeks power alone. Power to right his wrongs but power nonetheless. So he could be with the king to hone his skills as a Dark Knight to get revenge on the darkness that took him home, but through interacting with Sora awakens to the power of the Paladin and instead banishes the darkness from this world
Idea for Alternate Universe: What if Sora turned the disney villains from KH 1 into Heartless and Nobodies when he defeated them and their Nobodies made a quasi-organization. What would they look like, names and what would they do if they were involved in KH 2? Maleficent's whole situation in that would change.
It is genuinely weird that Maleficent, in particular, did not become a Heartless and Nobody after she got stab'd. But I guess we can chalk that one up to "the plot said so".
I'd like to think that Maleficent simply can't be turned into a heartless for whatever reason otherwise there have been plenty of opportunities for it to happen. Hell, part of me feels like she might not even have a heart to lose, however it is that's actually possible.
Itd probably look like Chain of Memories but play mostly the same, and possibly prerendered cutscenes with bad cgi. Also, characters and movies that haven’t come out yet wouldn’t be represented, obviously.
If you go with prerendered cutscenes it would have to be a Sega CD game since SNES and Genesis cartridges can only up to 4MB (I think that's the amount) of space. GBA carts have a lot more storage. I'm also sceptical on how well it would run since the GBA has a stronger processor than the SNES and Genesis.

Ratigan as part of the evil council actually sounds hilarious. Oogie already provided some comedic relief, I dont see it as a problem if there was one character that maybe the rest of the council didn't take seriously. Though honestly it would play up a lot better with the more confident, smug Sora from the later games, not seeing Rattigan as a threat whatsoever (kinda like how he is with Pete)

Rydia starts as a 7-ish Summoner (I don't actually know the age so I'll just assume the video is correct) but after quite a rough encounter, Leviathan brings her to the Land of Eidolons and trains her. Time flows differently in this realm of Summoned Beasts, so she basically gets a Hyperbolic Time Chamber training montage and when she next appears she has grown like 10 years and is now a young woman with great mastery over all forms of magic. So while she has lived through like 16+ years of her life, only 7 years have passed since her birth

This was a super cool concept and a very interesting experiment! I think it might have also been cool to do sort of what timeless River did in KH2 and Disney Town in BBS and explore the worlds of Mickey Mouse and Friends cartoons or maybe some of the very early Disney Channel cartoons like Gummi Bears. Kudos to coming up with a counterpart for every game element! Good stuff!
Id love to see someone do a mockup of all of this in SNES FF graphics. Maybe it could have even been an action RPG since Secret of Mana was a thing. Also I dont know where to put this but I loved Steamboat Willy in KH2 because of Mickey Mania for snes
i know we need to fill out as many full worlds as possible but since you mentioned big ben being in two worlds, and the great mouse detective world is when you’re tiny, there’s something to be considered in maybe making Neverland and that world connected, i know the usual ‘not having disney worlds touch eachother’ is usually prioritized but it could be like a kh2 tron and stitch in hollow bastion leading them to the world, it could be interesting!

1. Does Sora really need a transformation in Jungle Book? It is a world that humans inhabit.
2. Wouldn't Maid Marion make for a better choice of princess? I guess we can't just remove Ariel as a party member and make her a princess huh... I also would think having Robin as a party member would be pretty cool and not make Sora a transformation (everyone would assume he's just some kind of monkey, make a running gag out of that.)
3. Not sure how licensing would work for the great mouse detective, I am not sure how Disney got the rights for rodent Sherlock in the first place, gotta add Arthur Conan Doyle to the credits when you load up the game?
4. Does Beauty and the Beast have to go? They don't have a whole world, just two characters.
I mean, Disney lost the rights for Edgar Rice Burroughs' works after KH1, maybe Great Mouse Detective would end up as the Tarzan "forgotten world" of the series.
90% of the characters in the jungle book movie are not human therefore there would be no real plot they could explore if sora is human in that world. most of the plot of the first jungle book movie is in the jungle with the animals. a downside to the original deep jungle was the fact that he couldnt talk to any of the gorillas but at least there are prominent human characters in tarzan. there arent a lot of human characters in the first jungle book movie.

I love everything about this concept and video. The only thing I would change is giving Prof. Ratigan a more prominent role. He might not be the biggest, but he’s the most intelligent out of the Disney Villains. After all, he’s “The World’s Greatest Criminal Mind”. If he found out about “other worlds” he wouldn’t be content on just ruling his own. And a Kingdom literally called Kingdom Hearts would be ripe for the taking.
Much like Maleficent, he would want to roam world to world, using his small stature to gather intelligence on the inhabitants. He would cozy up and work for Maleficent for her power, much like Pete, with the eventual end goal of betraying her. And if a Disney Princess can talk to mice, why can’t a Disney Villain talk to “Big Mice”.
His story would happen more or less how you described, except he would fake his death and be portalled out of there after falling off of Big Ben, either by himself or with Maleficent’s help. He would then spend the rest of the series doing Maleficent’s bidding, biding his time and manipulating others from behind the scenes.
Now if you don’t think Ratigan would be up to all this, well I say the man was voiced by Vincent Price and that alone should qualify him. But if you need more evidence, there are actually deleted lines to his villain song. Ever wonder how he drowned those widows and orphans?

Cecil being manipulated by Prince John isn't newer to my brain. Cecil does fulfill the wishes of an evil king at the start of his game, so it actually works pretty well!
It would play probably play like secret of mana or tales of Phantasia. The Disney worlds would be included would different tho like no nightmare before Christmas or Hercules or Tarzan (tho that’s nothing new)

It's likely that Black Cauldron isn't mentioned anymore for legal reasons since the setting is owned by the original author of the novels.
Also, Setzer is designed by Testuya Nomura so Vivi is the only non-Nomura designed character from FF.

If I were you I would've kept the Quadrapedal worlds even after putting Jungle Book in the line up since you could realistically have Sora be a human in there and just change Donald and Goofy into actual animals which I think could make it worth it for the visual alone. SDG could meet with Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera, who decide to go with SDG (with only Baloo or Mowgli actually being in the party). It could really be an interesting dynamic with Sora indirectly setting off the plot of the movie in this hypothetical, telling Mowgli about all kinds of things humans have and do, sparking him to want to go back to the world of man.
I am a HUGE Final Fantasy IV fan and the thought of having Cecil taking Cloud's place is something I never knew I wanted.
I sometimes write a bit of my own KH4 fanfic for a writing warm up and the name I settled on for Great Mouse Detective is "Mousey London"
I feel like if Square really did team up with Disney for a 1992 release it would have been closer to Super Mario RPG but with an entirely Mickey-based setting and cast of characters.

This got me thinking about building a whole Kingdom Hearts side story around Kairi as a keyblade wielder; it’s maybe not like Riku going through his own play through in worlds Sora has visited but mixing in new stuff. Though, my obvious biases make it very difficult for me not to use Black Cauldron, Rescuers, or more modern Disney movies like Zootopia or Moana.
You should do one if kh1 was released 10yrs later

It’s kinda funny how well Firion and Cecil work as a Squall/Cloud switch out. Hell maybe instead of Golbez you’d fight Cecil’s dark Knight form to play into his dark side you see in the opening of the game when he works for the evil empire. Paladin (his post character development class upgrade) could be the regular design like how Cloud was based on his newer Advent children design.

No need for the "(and Setzer)" correction when it came to non-Nomura characters, as he actually was made and designed by him. Even though Amano was still the lead character designer of VI, both Setzer and Shadow were Nomura creations, which is why he wound up using the former for KH2.

This is both a really interesting way to create a different style of the game, and also a reminder that there should have been some more early Disney and Final Fantasy content in the series.
I especially would have loved, loved, LOVED to see some of these cameos from earlier Final Fantasy in the actual games.
I'm way more familiar with the pre-FF6 games than the post-FF6 ones (thanks to the GBA), so appearances by Cecil and a secret boss fight with Golbez would have me out of my seat with excitement!! Even the FF2 characters like Firion and the pirate lady, I would be like WHA-----!?!?

It was released in 2002 and it was likely actually sometime around 2000 that development actually started, so Square and Disney both were still riding high on the successes of the mid-late 90s, is my bet for what happened.
14:50 since Cloud's whole part of the story was struggling between light and darkness, this could be a Cecil who is still struggling with the morality of his actions. He seeks power alone. Power to right his wrongs but power nonetheless. So he could be with the king to hone his skills as a Dark Knight to get revenge on the darkness that took him home, but through interacting with Sora awakens to the power of the Paladin and instead banishes the darkness from this world
Idea for Alternate Universe: What if Sora turned the disney villains from KH 1 into Heartless and Nobodies when he defeated them and their Nobodies made a quasi-organization. What would they look like, names and what would they do if they were involved in KH 2? Maleficent's whole situation in that would change.
It is genuinely weird that Maleficent, in particular, did not become a Heartless and Nobody after she got stab'd. But I guess we can chalk that one up to "the plot said so".
I'd like to think that Maleficent simply can't be turned into a heartless for whatever reason otherwise there have been plenty of opportunities for it to happen. Hell, part of me feels like she might not even have a heart to lose, however it is that's actually possible.
I really hope you continue this idea with kh2 and beyond. It’s a really interesting idea of what could’ve been by going back even 10 years
Itd probably look like Chain of Memories but play mostly the same, and possibly prerendered cutscenes with bad cgi. Also, characters and movies that haven’t come out yet wouldn’t be represented, obviously.
If you go with prerendered cutscenes it would have to be a Sega CD game since SNES and Genesis cartridges can only up to 4MB (I think that's the amount) of space. GBA carts have a lot more storage. I'm also sceptical on how well it would run since the GBA has a stronger processor than the SNES and Genesis.
I'm pretty sure they would go 2d for the animation, or just use text boxes.

Ratigan as part of the evil council actually sounds hilarious. Oogie already provided some comedic relief, I dont see it as a problem if there was one character that maybe the rest of the council didn't take seriously.
Though honestly it would play up a lot better with the more confident, smug Sora from the later games, not seeing Rattigan as a threat whatsoever (kinda like how he is with Pete)
I think having replacing Black Caldron world with a fully realized Disney Castle world would make more sense.

Rydia starts as a 7-ish Summoner (I don't actually know the age so I'll just assume the video is correct) but after quite a rough encounter, Leviathan brings her to the Land of Eidolons and trains her. Time flows differently in this realm of Summoned Beasts, so she basically gets a Hyperbolic Time Chamber training montage and when she next appears she has grown like 10 years and is now a young woman with great mastery over all forms of magic.
So while she has lived through like 16+ years of her life, only 7 years have passed since her birth

Honestly, the Robin Hood world could work if the Sheriff of Nottingham took Hades' place manipulating Cecil or working with Cecil on Prince John's orders to find Golbez/reunite with Rosa and take Hades' place as a boss in it instead of Cerberus

This was a super cool concept and a very interesting experiment! I think it might have also been cool to do sort of what timeless River did in KH2 and Disney Town in BBS and explore the worlds of Mickey Mouse and Friends cartoons or maybe some of the very early Disney Channel cartoons like Gummi Bears. Kudos to coming up with a counterpart for every game element! Good stuff!

i know we need to fill out as many full worlds as possible but since you mentioned big ben being in two worlds, and the great mouse detective world is when you’re tiny, there’s something to be considered in maybe making Neverland and that world connected, i know the usual ‘not having disney worlds touch eachother’ is usually prioritized but it could be like a kh2 tron and stitch in hollow bastion leading them to the world, it could be interesting!
