As much as I agree, and they totally should've done it for narrative purposes: I (think I) know why they didn't. Because look at KH2, and the final fight against Xemnas. Remember the part where you're on a small "ship" with Riku? Well like that it's going to be closer to a quick time event with camera angles and sequences that were hard to figure out in 2001. And then it's kind of too easy. Plus, there would have to be some sort of soft-checkpoint if you moved on to a different gameplay mode. And kh1 was way more about those hard checkpoints. But yeah, it would've been better in kh1 than KH2 imo, especially because it would've been less cheesy and more influential in 2002 than it was it in 2006.
As a joke I was gonna say they “fixed it” in KH2 when obviously that’s the worst part of the final fight, but I’m feeling too late lol. Anytime a fight confines you to a ship or magic carpet is the worst part

So fun fact that Nomura used to his advantage with the rest of the series. Mickey Mouse was only LEGALLY ALLOWED to be in ONE SCENE in the first Kingdom Hearts game. So Disney figured Nomura would off set him as lie a face in the crowd cameo. But Nomura was clever enough to make Mickey the King of his own world and use him for the LAST SCENE of the game. So not only was Mickey entered in as a Main character Cameo, Nomura got Disney to sign off on Mickey being a main character of the franchise. I think this was in some get back that Disney wouldn't do this unless Sora and KH original characters were owned by Disney so Nomura made it so that Disney would be more invested in the franchise beyond borrowing film IPs.
Actually, it was because Capcom got the full rights to use Mickey in "Disney's Magical Mirror starring Mickey Mouse" which came out the same year as KH1.

I played Theatrhythm on the 3DS as well before playing a single Final Fantasy up to that point, and I fell in love! In the case of KH Melody of Memories, the big push for me was the exclusive song you could get in Super Smash Bros Ultimate if you had save data of the game. I had no problem dropping 20$ for the game to get the single music track, and I even found the game to be like a fun spin on Theatrhythm. So, basically, the reason I bought the game is because I'm a bit of a completionist when it comes to Smash Bros content lol. It's a dangerous trait to have, especially as a rhythm game player as well (so many games have extra song dlc).

This happily takes m back to like 4-5 years ago when i went to a pub with 2 of my pals and after we order our drinks, one of them starts to talk about how he's been interested in Kingdom Hearts and, since I've been into the series since 2003, he asks me to help him better understand it. I couldnt help but let out one of the most exasperated sighs I've ever released in my 24 years up life up to that point So, on a strong buzz for the next like hour or so I did my best to try summarizinh the 15 years games while answering clarifying questions, which just begged questions than were what was answered (for instance - Sora has this counterpart, Roxas, but he looks different because Sora was carrying the heart of this character from another game, Birth by Sleep which takes place 10 years prior to the 1st game, named Ventus. This is because Ventus kinda died in his game, leading him/his heart to take refuge in Sora when he was like 4 years old. When Sora became a Heartless in the 1st game, it created this entity called a Nobody, but some characters create strong Nobodies and, in Sora's case, created Roxas whose appearance was shaped by Ventus' heart that laid dormant in Sora. Also there's this other character, Xion, who is also Sora, but also kind of not, but still is...) Anyway thanks for the memories, think I'll go back a play KHII again in the near future. Or revisit KHIII since my save file corrupted some years back
