The problem with the bad grind could be that the clamps ever so slightly cause the blade to bow when they’re tightened. You could probe before and after tightening to check this...

You may be getting thermal expansion of that delrin insert, how hot do you think that endmill and grinder get that piece? It has to be transferring heat into the part and thus into the delrin. You may want to look at using a more thermally stable material.

For the sun issue, I recommend semi-transparent shades. I have 10% shades on my windows. If you wanted to get fancy you get (or in your case probably make) motorized controls to raise and lower. When you want full brightness, open them up. Otherwise close them. Also will add a small amount of air barrier for the colder months.

@16 mins: For your starburst pattern, why don't you use a lollipop style cutter? You can then tilt the tool on its side (or rather, almost completely on its side, as you will still need a bit of clearance for the tool holder), and then you will be climb milling for both sides of the grooves. You will also be using a cutting edge further from the centre of rotation, so you will have more surface speed as well... am i missing something?

The Error message you had, basically means that the posistionregulator couldn't hold the C Axis on spot. It just does not have enough power. It moved, the regulator goes out of regulation, because it can't handle it and then the standstill error comes up, because the C Axis moved.

  • @camilewis87

A lot of people said thermal expansion for the Deleon part and I was thinking that also because I have less then zero faith in plastic lol but one other thing I was thinking was how your insert is Installed. I mean that if it is only bolted down with those three screws, perhaps coolant could be getting under the insert (or the part) just slightly when you are running it, causing some distortion. It’s hard to say just from the video not knowing how you have it installed. For example sitting in a pocket or not. Looked much better at the end, obviously you’ll figure it out. Happy new year, enjoyed the long video 😊

I have "maybe" for the grinding uneven result. By selecting so fine grinding stone you glock up stone with material too soon.

I love your knives and would love to get one one day, I have to ask though why the Kern? The work you do isn't actually that precise (volumetric wise) I've never priced a kern out but I would imagine it would be about twice the price of a matsurra LX or LF machine, and you have experience with that distributer. I know of several significantly cheaper machines out there that would far exceed your accuracy and quality needs that would have been better suited(IMO). I dont think you made a bad decision or anything im just really curious what your thought process was.
