I think a lot of it is about what the game does to you when you're not playing it. Knowing that its all still there, existing whether you are in it or not. You think about what is going on there while you are at work, with freinds, trying to go to sleep. Its like a parallel dimension you visit rather than a game you play.
All I know is that as a pve player, the game is simply the most fun survival expirience of any other game I have played and the most replayable. I dont see any time soon in my future where I will want to stop playing it for longer than 3 months. Im happy for that, and I don't mind enjoying (and sometimes hating) a game that much.
I completely agree. I am pushing 5K hours and am still playing. I've done everything there is to do, and 90% of my time has been on SP. The story is fantastic and every ascension still gives me goosebumps. It's my favorite game of all time. Definitely an addict.
100%, if only we could get a game thats like Ark but has elements from some of my other favorite survival/RPG games but i highly doubt such game will ever be made.
Facts man, pvp just sucks because people will always being idiots if they’re young enough to be playing this game. PvE is just a lot more fun with a lot less stress, I hate hate hate hate hate how much emphasis the developers put on pvp when nobody even likes pvp, like why do some many people care about what happens there, your just gonna have a bad experience no matter what it wasn’t any better an ASE and it certainly isn’t better now. The other problem is that currently it’s not possible or to run cross platform on non dedicated servers so for the majority of players the cross platform thing doesn’t even do anything, you still can’t just play with a few of your mates, you have to buy a server, and then oh no you can’t run that server on your console so you have to buy a computer just to run the server while your playing it on your console, and then you have to pay ridiculous amounts of money to keep that server going even if you only play ok it every once in a while. I was so happy when they announced Asa was going be cross platform and yet I still can’t play with my pc and Xbox friends in a way that is any good.
Actually really happy you made this video, a lot of people in the Ark community like to joke about this, myself included and admittedly seeing those steam screenshots with 10,000 hours will always be funny to me. But the level of addiction some if not most people reach with this game can be and is a big issue, so seeing someone acknowledge that for what it is and actually try to reach out to the community and give a clear answer as to why this happens was very nice! There is one thing I wanna mention though, and it's about myself. I don't know if anyone reading this will even semi-relate to what i'm about to say but here I go. I'm autistic and have been playing Ark since maybe just before Genesis 1, I've only played single player and I've never actually beat a map, gotten close on some occasions but that's it. Through my many attempts at beating this game it's become almost harmful to me, whenever I play for a little bit, something goes wrong, whether it's my water feeling like it's draining too fast or i messed up the settings but i'm too far in to change them or make a new save, or most recently, event colours showing up when there was no event activated and that really getting to me because it felt like it ruined the authenticity. Recently I became so worried over the game in general, that just thinking about it was almost cognitohazardous, like it made me physically ill. I know it's not necessarily the game's fault, for the most part it's a side effect of my experience with the game mixed with my autism. I've considered quitting multiple times and this time could very well be it, as it's been some of the worst I've ever felt, just wanted to leave this comment here because it's sort of related to the addiction problem and I remembered your post about mental health with the game from who knows how long ago, thanks for reading because I haven't heard of anything experiencing something similar and I wanted to get it out there.
Been addicted since the demo, half my life playing this game (currently 16) and I have no idea why, been so excited for this vid since I saw the announcement on Twitter, thanks ned:D
The market research firm Quantico actually did a 500,000 game player survey in 2016 (the year before ASE came out) regarding competitive behaviors & age. What their analysis brought up was that competitive behaviors for guys peaked at ~15 years old and bottomed out at ~35 years of age with it sloughing off until hitting a gully at 35. For gals, it starts at the same age range but gulleys out at ~25 for "a complete loss of interest in competitive gameplay." When it came to PVP servers in ASE you could see a distinct trend in those servers well before things shut down. Mega-tribe controlled PVP (Effectively turning the server into a members only PVE server,) dead servers (self-explanatory,) or Conflict servers (Two megatribes trying to wipe each other out until one gave up turning it into one of the other two.) - None of these server types outside of the transformation to PVE had any longevity.
Honestly, I think a great idea for a follow-up video would be to talk about how pve players feel about the game, personally, I find ASA to be way better with all of the quality of life improvements and well as the improvements to the game itself
Playing with friends makes the game more fun so I consider that as a big factor too. The moments where I was forced to play solo, it felt a bit rough (specially after the game stopped releasing new content). To this day I'm still atatched to Ark as a whole, as I've seen it change from really early on, and it also reminds me of simpler times so nostalgia is probably a part of it. Adding to the megatribe section of the video: Back in ASE I played in some, and while it was definetly the best way to ascend and get your characrer further, it was also *_REALLY_* boring to play in one. You also needed to know someone who could move some strings in order to join some megatribes so, it was definetly a pain for newer players too. Thanks for having me over! :)
Wildcard and Snail games helped me kick my Ark addiction, Well also the community helped me quit. Wildcard said the UE5 upgrade was going to be free but turned back on that, i played ASE on day one so i knew ASA was going to be a shit show and didn't want to deal with that again. After awhile they started to add "pay packs" and that made me more glad i didn't buy ASA. The cheating was getting so bad by the time i quit ASE, my tribe got meshed 3 times and just the overall official server community/mega tribes are super toxic and nasty.
Hey you featured my Wizard Tower in the video!! haha awesome!! :) Thank you!! Yeah us PvE people do need something more for our adventures in Ark. The train sets in the new DLC content kicks ass, but still we need something to DO with all of this. Right now it's just taming for boss fights to unlock all the engrams, then building with no limits (just grinding). We could of course all organize ourselves better to make our own in-game community adventures and events. But its hard getting everyone to stay in one place.
Wouldn't it be cool if there were npcs we could employ and actually have a civilization bustling with people? All these crafting stations with no one to work them. All these amazing builds with no one to live in them. The Ark world is too empty in pve, yet too toxic in pvp. I wish some company would make games revolving around cooperation instead of conflict. Sigh
There's no way I can speak for the multitude of people interacting with ark right now, but if there's one thing I can guarantee, it's that ark has a special place on my desktop. Even as a PVE local player, there's a draw indescribable this game gives me, and I don't see that diminishing anytime soon, especially now
Same here. I'm a pve, mostly single player person. I don't have the money for a consistent server for friends. I've tried to break down what I enjoy so much about ark, since I've always wanted to make a game inspired by it, but it's so hard to do. I think part of the magic is that there aren't any taming games like it out there. Honestly, there aren't many games which feature taming animals aside from minecraft, and none which feature it so prominently as far as I'm aware. Not to mention that I am a huge dinosaur nerd.
The biggest deal for immersion for me is playing first person... I tried Pal World but it never stuck for me... I love being "in the game", not watching my character.
7:25 faceless hiding in a bush IMO still the best Ark channel even after quitting and only appearing on other channels, still my favourite nothing beats the Legends Security Service. And its def going to be over soon on the PvP side its not as fun as 2020 Ark as everyone can just bury their loot.
Mr Dolphin is Completely right, ASA is trash for PVE, were basically levelling our characters and building up and waiting for the maps we know and love to come out so were ready for them, the game is basically in pre-release for us but for PvP players the lack of Manas, stalkers, shadowmanes, meks etc it makes the game so much better for them, ASA will only truly become the ASE successor when we have all our content back
Not having shadowmanes and bloodstalkers is what's keeping me from playing pvp. They are my main battle mount, early raid dino, and traversal ready to counter pocket giga... without it I feel like I can't compete as a solo at all. Like at all. I suck at foot pvp xD
Single player person here. Ever since I was a kid, I was practically obsessed with dinosaurs. Survival games have always sparked my interest as well, I can’t exactly explain why they do, they just do. So to see a game that looked amazing as well as being a survival game with dinosaurs I got hooked. I’ve never touched PvP or ever played multiplayer for various reasons, (such as not liking the idea of knocking someone’s sandcastle down and the fact I just like playing alone in general) ASA doesn’t interest me because first, I don’t want to pay money for a game I already technically have, and second; I doubt my PC can remotely handle it, it looks cool, that’s about it. But I already have Evolved, and Evolved is enough for me.
I've had over 10,000 hours of SP playtime on ASE. For myself and a lot of other people, Ark just has a lot of elements I've always wanted in a game and some I could have never imagined.. For my first 500 hours I just built cool structures and tamed dinos, some people still do only that and what's amazing about Ark is that you can play it your way.
9:29 look into the rat whisperer. He says that a big rat to play with a smaller rat must allow the small rat to win 30% of the time. Therefore the small rat will stay engaged with the big rat in play.
I still run my ASE server, the save from our official server, for the few folks that still play ASE and its good. I visit em sometimes, but in a way.. ASA gave me what i should've gotten far earlier.. a reason to quit. Done over 10k hours, met great folks who joined along to ASA, but after a month or 2, it just aint the same. It more felt like a nostalgic trip down memory lane then a new challenge. I gues in a way the things that annoyed me back in ASE, only got stronger in ASA. Pillar spam, trolling, mega bases, cave blocking, stuff that i didnt care much about because i was beyond that point in ASE, but have to face again in ASA, to the point i just say 'meh.. not for me anymore', and on that friday i just logged out. Only to come back like 10 days later, half my base decayed and i didnt even feel sad or bad about it, unlocked all the storage and boxes, logged out and that been nearly 3 months ago. The addiction became nothing more then a little itch, scratch once and its gone.
As a solo player, i've never fully experienced PVP, so I don't know the experience. Heck, the main reason I even play ark now is because of the memories. I fell in love with this game in 2015 and it's always been a place for me to relax, dispite the annoying gameplay aspects. Yet, tho it might be newer, I still haven't played as much of ASA as I did with ASE, mostly because it was a pointless upgrade. So the only reason I'm playing it at all is for nostaliga.
I rage quitted ASE PvP on officials last year and tried to go back to life, but over the year as things got tough, I kept dreaming of coming back solo and PvE with wild builds and breeding. I started playing ASE on single player a couple weeks ago with official settings, and now it's all I do, every day. The shit is a drug.
The thrill I got from playing ASE for just over 20k hrs for nearly 6 years until late 2021 when I finally quitted, was indeed the permanence of progress. You have created your story of survival, and want it to continue. Played from single player, to unofficial pve, then unofficial pvp, then finally on official pvp for the remaining 16k hours or 4 years. That story is what is the most valuable, that it can even influence your development as a person IRL when you come into contact with the adult (albeit toxic) community. There is a reflection of the real world in this virtual world when it comes to the dark side of humanity, but it also displays a competitive will to survive against the odds. Yes the addiction to the game did mess me up IRL, but its impossible to deny that this game did leave a significant chapter in life. Its impossible for me to go back to the game anymore after leaving it for nearly 3 years, but I still watch its developments. Old players still try to get me back to no avail, but they are friends and connections never possible without the game. So far, I have not seen many games as immersive as this out there. One notorious one I know though, is Eve Online. That one takes things of a retained gaming community to a whole new level. Things that it shares with ARK but done more, is indeed permanence for more grind.
PVP is better than ever I’m a small tribes player with 15k hours on ase and 1.3 on Asa the thing that stops a lot of players from staying on the game is… artifacts inside caves. We hold them and so do every other alpha. If there was a way to craft a arti for instance … to craft broodmother artifact you can collect fangs from spiders and craft one. This would allow new players and when new maps open people to get out of being prim locked… that’s one thing I think would increase the player base
I think it would be interesting if Wildcard has a new type of PvP servers that disables any cave building including non-artifact ones such as triple waterfall and the pearl caves on the Island. The other type of server I’m thinking of applys to both PvP and PvE called no rideable flyers, where they are still tameable, but you are unable to ride on them, this also includes fast travel mounts such as the mana and maewing.
To me Ark is my adult Lego with easy clean up, a way to meet great people, a escape an challenging way for my brain to just be. I enjoy it so much I even play mobile ark when on the road.
I've never really done the official PvP much, but I love playing solo or with small groups. Building up to challenge the bosses is addicting. Competing with other small groups is fun, as is coming together to beat bosses or other groups. ... then there are the dinosaurs.. I love just being able to catch and use dinosaurs. Some of the flying, specifically the swooping of the gryphons and snow owls, is my favorite thing to do. There are days where I have spent hours on Crystal Isles just flying around the map in first person, enjoying the map and experience.
Thanks for the video, it’s extremely interesting. I know it’d be some more work, but I’d highly appreciate subtitles. It’s not a must, but makes listening easier for non native English speakers 👀 especially in the interviews you included
I up until now, having played for 5 years and collected almost 2k hours, have never played PVP. Not because I thought it wouldn't be fun, I knew I'd get hooked. Hooked WAY too hard. I stuck to and still am sticking to playing singleplayer and PVE with my friends. I'm having fun but I'm also having a life
I think as ASA continues to gain that level of content that was found in ASE, to fix the issue of inverse popularity between PvP and PvE, they’re going to have to contain the meta of each expansion to their respective maps, meaning no transferring of items or dinos outside of the expansion maps they were made for. Realistically speaking, I think this would only have to apply to PvP.
As an *extremely* casual player of ASE, I mostly play the Island cuz I love dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. The more wild and fantastical it gets, the less interesting and unique it feels. I also don't have a machine that can run ASA, even on the lowest settings.
for me it was watching syntac and all his friends that got me into the game watching from the very start got me hooked then 3yrs down the road i got a pc/ net that i could start playing ark and i been playing it ever since then and i have made friends on official that i still play with to this day
I'm a pve player who mainly plays single player on ASA and used to play unofficial on ASE and I upgraded as the allure of mods on console was a large reason amongst the other main reasons of the whole allure of redescovering a map I. Loved in the past
The official pvp has always been a mystery to me, since I was introduced to the game via friends who rented their own servers. It's more like pve in a sense since we all work together even in seperate tribes, have alliances and trading, fight bosses together and just have a good time. It's a community and since I'm a peace loving person and pvp stresses me out, this is much more my speed. I can be very addicted to Ark in batches, I might play the game too much for a few months and then I get fed up and stop for awhile. Then we might move on to another map and adventure (atleast that's what we did in ASE) and then the addiction starts over again.
I’m actually really new to Ark and I’m having a blast with the single player mode. I do play on an unofficial server but I don’t know how I would ever progress far on it.
I’ve played Ark almost 8 years. I played PVP for 2 years but had to leave to work schedule. I switched to PVE and beat the game Solo on Official. The grind to get to 205 was literally that a grind for XP! The game itself became easy with all the tames maxed out. It took a lot of having to be skilled out of the game. The resource gathering was almost that of an Un Official server. The absolute hardest thing I did was getting to 205 solo. I accomplished it a month before servers shut down. All I did was farm XP forever! And when I reached 205 there was nothing for me to do. I shut the console off knowing all the years of building on all the servers I build on was to be erased forever. I used to play with about 20 people in chat and would help them achieve what they were going for. That number is down to 1 person. The rest quit Ark all together and say they will not play ASA because like me they achieved everything in the game they wanted. The newer players say the game is hard! They wouldn’t have wanted to see it 8 years ago. But that is when the game honestly was the funnest times I had 😢
really cool interview! I think the split between ASE and ASA makes perfect sense when you take into account the pvp players' content vs the pve players content, and the system requirements like you highlighted. As for your question at the end of the video, I really think it's not that deep. The game is a joke right now, the only content being rehashed maps from years ago, it runs like shit, it looks like shit, and it's riddled with bugs, so of COURSE no one is going to waste their time with this game beyond a niche audience of pvpers who want a full loot survival game and whoever else is hanging around. If Wildcard makes a fun game with stuff to do, people will come.
I can say if you’ve ever played 7 days to die, it’s a very similar hook. I’ve been playing 7dtd since I was 7, and I’m now 14, I just started playing ASE, and it’s a lot of the similar concepts, but just executed differently.
Yeah this is why I play unofficial with friends or sp Both where the obnoxious grindy parts are yeeted away with semi cracked stats. Particularly carry weight
Unofficial may disappear but official will always be here… This is false Official may have a longer lifespan, but ASE proved it won’t always be there In fact, it can be leveraged against you to make you buy another game to access same server network
I play PvE official and absolutely loving it, I didn't even want SE to be released yet I'm loving the 2017 vibes on the island ofc I'm playing SE more atm but it's just cause it's there
woot shout out to my tribemate Dylan whos base is shown around timestamp 12.21 . we lived on island official 82 since the server opened until it was shut down.
3:49 "stickiness" read more about this term in Malcolm Gladwell's book "Tipping Point" This is just one of 2 factors and three people to make something go viral
@@1991DodgeShadow they dont want you building near their base, pretty simple, lots to places to build if you look further than 5 feet where you spawned on the beach
@@420rogerz na it's not that. It'll be on the entire map. That's what makes it stupid. Not to mention holding down the artifacts so u can't ascend. Most of the official servers are trash . I've played 1200 hours so I don't really care at this point like u do ha
Don't play too much anymore. I got 18,000 hours I haven't played in 9 months and me and my ark duo still get dreams about ark. I often get withdrawals and all I can think is Ark. My duo has 17,000 hours played since 2018. I gotten so addicted to the point where I would get 2 hours of sleep a night. I had health problems because of these bad habits. I used to have 20/20 vision but now I have 20/16. It a extreamly time consuming game where you have to play all day to dominate the server. Often I did not realize how quickly the time would fly by. Is just so addicting Where the memories worth it...
Lmao I get ark dreams too, I still play it, a lot, but I save time for my health, going to the gym, sleeping as much as possible, decreasing the light of my device for my eyes, I like the game, but i wouldn’t stop caring about my health
Our boy Kurtis getting a lotta air time on this episode of NeddyTheNoodle. Every other clip lol. Good stuff though and I'd say pretty accurate. The the idea of "last online" timers is enough to keep people playing or convince an enemy it's useless to continue. Furthering the drive to do better until you yourself can knock down the sand castle.
6:05 cortisol hormone equals social toxicity. Assigning blame or appreciation is the counter thought process releasing nitric oxide or serotonin. The counter to The blood vessel constricting inflammation in the system from the prolonged cortisol exposure. Within a good tribe you will find that they remove the pressure of cortisol through the excitement of appreciation and assigning a blame to other tribes and other conditions from within the leadership of those tribes. I hope this information helps 😊
id argue against what dolphin said about pvp being amazing right now, the players left on 1x are players that are ok with putting up with cheating, even in their own tribe. there is no "last legit tribe", asa pvp is the most cheater infested game ever, and most people i know who want to enjoy the game legit quit a while ago. very sad for me to see the toxic community that offi pvp harbors now
ye good point thats why people play unofficial getting aimboted on 1x or arkpoc when your not in a mega tribe you just lose hours of work. Besides unofficial pvp is more fun when you can play a 4man (or your ideal tribe size) server with friends and not have to get attacked by an unfair amount of players
Long story short: -big base -big dinos -you can Boom-boom them. Also at griefing part,as PVE player you can even grief others not only that you can used them for your own advantage while they having argument in the chat 😊
1x sucksballs. 2x solves a lot of the Breeding problems created by 1x. 8 hour imprints is just unrealistic for most players, it caters to the unemployed & retired. At least on 2x you can get something done on your day off.
I have thousands of hours on the game. Trust me when I say the end of life ASE rates were 2x the ASA return to base 1x has been pure cancer for people who like Breeding.
I'm hardcore PVE, what hurt us the most was just how bad the launch was. Non stop Rollbacks to the point we called WC the strongest PVP opponent in PVE. SE pretty much destroyed PVE why? 70/70 full servers non stop for about 2 weeks. Lots of crashing. By the time SE was stable it was stable because the Servers had less than 30 players because everyone quit. And they didn't go back to the Island they straight up quit the game.
Going forward WC must 100% do PVE Bonus Timed Servers to manage the Flood from old content to new content. Personally I have limited interest in The Center. I will not be joining a 70/70 server again. I will either wait or I will join the Temporary Servers. I really only want the Tek Light. While I await the next Story Map.
not to sound ignorant or anything but why do people play offical pve how come you guys dont just play singleplayer ?. like 1x pvp is bad let alone pve but let me know what u all think
I've played ark on and off, and enjoyed it a lot. The only issue I've had is graphical performance lol And having all your work destroyed while you're offline...
Breeding dinos and stat distribution is way too addicting. Always breeding for that mutation, seeing the stats increase, and blueprint farming is like gambling.
I wished there were more ratholes introduced or better locations for solos/duos, or smaller tribes in general to be able to survive against larger tribes. xD
People who complain about PvP now, weren’t around for the first megatribe war. PvPers in my experience nowadays are much more mature and willing to work things out, back then it was “join us or this server is done”, I remember when we foundationed our own server as a final fuck you to the mega tribes.
Cannot play ASA because of my potato PC and no $ to build a new one, taking a time for now from singleplayer Had some bad experiences on other games so I never played ASE on PvP - more than 7k hours between official and singleplayer Started playing ASE on old 33 Island in 2017, met one of the most mature and friendly player communities and made several friends
Tbh after playing official PvP for a solid year on ASE and starting to get really good I also started to see how it affected my real life shit. Me and our tribe tried to build up on a server ASA that wipes every month but unfortunately we got caught off guard and ambushed my enemies lost all the c4 we needed to take Pack Cave and since then we’ve just quit playing PvP and ark in general. I do love the game but I just know the remaster is killing the community
I never got into the pvp side of ase or asa. A new player just joining would be at a huge disadvantage compared to a long-term player that has all the engrams/tekgrams unlocked. In that regard, Rust is a more viable option. There's still a steep learning curve, but regular wipes help level the field so you aren't fighting impossible odds. I've been pve on official servers since ase and I'm enjoying the new content. I know the maps are slowly dropping and we want them now, but the adding of new creatures and content does help keep my interest going.
I have put many hours in this game. And what kept me playing is the fact is a combination of things. The lack of other good survival games, the grind, wanna be the best tribe and biggest tribe on smalls, and the fact that if u dont check on your base it can all be gone in a blink of an eye. I always played official servers, i tried both 1x and smalltribes and prefer smalltribes. The fact that people have 200players in a single tribe and 26 alliances ruins the risk and grind for me. Smalls is way more competitive and u have to do it with 6players only. I have to say i play on ps5 and wouldnt play the game on anything else or if it was full crossplay, ps5 is the only platform where u dont run into cheaters. Yes theres meshing and duping but thats on all platforms and its part of the game at this point.
I play unofficial PVE on Asa you honestly just need to find a good server that’s been around for a while, but also hasn’t lost its vigor. I adore the look of Asa and absolutely love the new building mechanics!!! Plus being an Xbox player the mods are great!! I do wish that they would change a couple things back to how they were in ASE but it’s very minor and my server host has fixed the issues that have annoyed me. Playing with friends is just the icing on the cake. PvP however I hate. Only because on the days I can play I don’t get far enough for it to be sustainable and hold up to whoever decides to raid it. Then on the weekend when most people are playing I can’t because I want to spend time with my husband and friends so it just creates a constantly loop that drives me nuts.
Great video! To answer your question, I don't think anyone really knows what will happen in the future for ASE or ASA. I'd like to believe that all content for ASA gets added in a timely manner, and more players join as players upgrade their PCs and time rolls forward, but the future is uncertain and expecting the content to come out in a timely manner seems like a pipe dream with this dev cycle, for now anyway. I did want to mention a comment you made at the beginning of this video regarding Warframe, as one of the grindy games like WoW, Final Fantasy 14, etc. To be honest, I don't feel like Warframe fits in with any of these. Warframe is a special type of game that IS grindy, but the grind is offered in a way that keeps you from playing the game constantly. I'd actually really like to see you do an indepth video into Warframe (and its Lore). A separate video where you take a look at how Warframe's style of grind / content (how it's time-gated by waiting for things to finish building, not how long it takes you to farm) / the general player ecoystem, and a separate video on its lore would be SUPER cool. Warframe has a lot of great content and is probably one of the best F2P games out there, especially considering it lets players freely trade the premium paid currency between each other. I'd love to see you do a few videos on it!
I love this game, I think my best decision was quitting PVP this year, I switched to PVE but there was somethings that really bothered me. I ended up purchasing my own server (cause the single player sucks) and honestly i've been enjoying it so much. being able to alter some rules and just vibe out and not be stressed that im going to get back from work and be raided or something. and i think why ase has less players (the steam numbers) is because asa requires a really good comp. I have 64ram, i9, and a 4070 and my comp gets sus when i play so i mainly play on my playstation.
The actual launch of ASA was a complete failure. WC seem to think they know what the fans want without actually asking us what we want. Why release all the old maps first? Why set out a road map and not use it? I loved Evolved but ultimately I completed it. I pine for new maps, new dinos, new bosses and new challenges. Most people that play official brought all their dirty little habits over from Evolve to Ascended because WC refused to address any these. Am I excited for The Centre? No! I would have preferred Abberation at the beginning of June. Hey ho… I’m still addicted. Good video Ned.
From my experience many people that keep playing ark over and over and over and over again, esp on pvp servers, is due to them having an irl depression. So playing this type of game is not recommended if you want to get over your depression.
I think that the "content" of asa, is way too easily glossed over. As I am someone who has never played pvp, only pve, I had 5k+ hours in ASE and now am creeping up on 1k in ASA, and I love breathe and love all of the content. Including and most especially mods. Even in ASE, the modded content was more important and integral to me being "hooked" and "addicted", and my overall view of Ark as whole and what made it great. I think that what truly carried Ark ASE, and made it an empire over almost a decade, and what has me hooked into ASA and not having even loaded ASE since I got my hands on ASA, is the MODS. Plain and simple, wild card opening up the dev kit and allowing players and anyone else to create almost anything they want in the game, and then even more so In ASA with the almost complete inclusion of UE5 in the dev kit, as well as the dev kit being made to be more simple and understandable (at least in comparison to the previous iteration lol) is what has and what will continue to be the steroid infused, blood pumping, beefed up, hulk heart of all that is ARK.
For pvp the game is better without all the new stuff many people i have asked said they would rather the devs not add any of the extinction or gen 2 stuff since its unbalanced for both unofficial and official pvp but then it isnt fair on the pve players since they want the opposite this is why the devs need to separate pve and pvp to separate modes at least with different settings creatures enabled or disabled and so on
Well Neddy im a co-morbide psychiatry addiction expert and im 55. I play endless ARK. 1x DTF megatribe. I cried when they closed the ASE servers while i was still playing. Buy you are so young, theres more to life then just Ark. Get out find a girl, settle down and maybe you can marry. Look at me im old but im happy. I was once like you are now.................................. o wait thats a song text xD
Tbh I dont want kids. My life philosophy is rather different from your own. I want to grow old surrounded by friends, not children of my own. No interest in bringing kids into a world so seemingly bleak. Thats just me 😊
Especially where engrams are severely limited, and you need the blue prints to make something as simple as arrows. Really makes ppl work together and plan farther ahead
Hope you read this Ned, in my experience the people in this video may be exaggerating with how bad the cheating is on small tribes, if you're genuinely good at pvp, cheaters arent that big of an issue, for example many times have we just flown the bellies of our wyvern facing the player that is aimbotting us, and just leave, it really isn't that crazy. People who have cheats have them for a reason and it's because they have no game sense and need the aimbot to do anything. In terms of the amount of cheating, it's a lot as far as normal video games go, but it's not every player you run into. In my 5,000 hours i have basically only played small tribes, the pvp is so much more fun, because it's all about strategy and tactics, what can we do to get into this base? how can we cheese these turrets? what angle should we take? where as my experience with 1x is it's all just quantity over quality, throw everything you have at someones base and you WILL get into it eventually, with up to hundreds of people who can all just farm you basically have unlimited funding and just brute force your way through pvp, i like to see small tribes as much more of a team based strategy game, where as 1x is just like, join one of the biggest tribes and just play.
I think the majority of ASE players are stuck because they either: 1: Can't run ASA (the poor optimization is amazing) 2: They don't trust the 🐌(Which, they'd be correct) Or 3: there are more problems with ASA then ASE, take the amount of hacking/exploiting for example. I bought ASA, and i'm stuck on ASE aswell due to not being able to run it. And i'm saying this with an NVIDIA RTX 4060TI 16gb, A very capable graphics card.
I won’t play ASA until WildCard fixes the huge issue and that it can’t run on my pc and it meets the minimum standards for the game. Until then I will play ASE on my Switch!
My friends think my 7000 hrs on the game come from pvp servers, I just left my game on in my own hosted pve server to get every creatures mutation through massive breeding farms. It was fine until I got to the mammals then I lost control. Had to detonate the nuke mod to save my game from the lag of thousands of stupid horny pigs.

I think a lot of it is about what the game does to you when you're not playing it. Knowing that its all still there, existing whether you are in it or not. You think about what is going on there while you are at work, with freinds, trying to go to sleep. Its like a parallel dimension you visit rather than a game you play.
And then you cry yourself to sleep once your 8 hours of hard work gets wiped in minutes
@@MrTickles445 yes
@MrTickles445 maybe. But if you played enough. Being wiped is part of it and you build again. Live by the sword, die by it.
@@ChrisSmith-ew9fp Bro I have played enough, probably too much
All I know is that as a pve player, the game is simply the most fun survival expirience of any other game I have played and the most replayable. I dont see any time soon in my future where I will want to stop playing it for longer than 3 months. Im happy for that, and I don't mind enjoying (and sometimes hating) a game that much.
Yess thank you
I completely agree.
I 100% agree!
I’m quitting this game it sucks ass.
(I’ll be on tomorrow)
I Quit Quitting
You can ride a freaking t-rex! Nobody else has that.
It’s not the same when you play as a rex in the isle, it’s much better to ride one and than go and ride something else
Been addicted since the demo, half my life playing this game (currently 16) and I have no idea why, been so excited for this vid since I saw the announcement on Twitter, thanks ned:D
Glad you enjoy it!
For gals, it starts at the same age range but gulleys out at ~25 for "a complete loss of interest in competitive gameplay."
When it came to PVP servers in ASE you could see a distinct trend in those servers well before things shut down.
Loved seeing Butch, think everyone who watched that series can agree it really captured everything that made Ark so nostalgic
Agreed! Watching is playthough was so much fun for us Veteran players. I get alot of joy out of watching new players find and experience the game.
But its hard getting everyone to stay in one place.
amazing builds as always man!
I feel like the game of Life is addicting since it's a sandbox like an ark, and a lot of people are hardcore about life and stuff :)
As someone who 100% ark completley
Except for the free map dlcs
Yea the game is pretty addicting.
Hey thanks for interviewing us all and including our voices! Hopefully the devs see this (they wont) but thank you anyway!
No other survival games compares but when the 7 days update comes on
I plan on taking a break on Ark and stick with that for a couple months
As an *extremely* casual player of ASE, I mostly play the Island cuz I love dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. The more wild and fantastical it gets, the less interesting and unique it feels. I also don't have a machine that can run ASA, even on the lowest settings.
for me it was watching syntac and all his friends that got me into the game watching from the very start got me hooked then 3yrs down the road i got a pc/ net that i could start playing ark and i been playing it ever since then and i have made friends on official that i still play with to this day
Quite the sticky situation, Jeremy…
Great video, Ned, thank you. I feel like I understand the official community a little better now.
Nice shot of Doom's tower. Lol. I can't wait till glidder suits so we can use it as a glide-travel hub
I've been Ark sober for abou 6 months now
I’m actually really new to Ark and I’m having a blast with the single player mode.
Hey I love talking about ARK, thanks for reaching out.
Awsome to see game changers on your channel been watching them for a couple months now!
They're nice people.
really cool interview! If Wildcard makes a fun game with stuff to do, people will come.
solid fucking take
I mean you're not entirely wrong
I can say if you’ve ever played 7 days to die, it’s a very similar hook. I’ve been playing 7dtd since I was 7, and I’m now 14, I just started playing ASE, and it’s a lot of the similar concepts, but just executed differently.
Freakin love 7 days bro.
@@NeddyTheNoodleIt’s the best. I’m stuck on console sadly.
Yeah this is why I play unofficial with friends or sp
Both where the obnoxious grindy parts are yeeted away with semi cracked stats. Particularly carry weight
Never played pvp on Arc. Instead i made servers to play coop style with friends. The animals and landscapes have kept me playing for years.
I have been playing video games before the internet was invented and this…this game. Nothing like it.
Unofficial may disappear but official will always be here…
This is false
Official may have a longer lifespan, but ASE proved it won’t always be there
In fact, it can be leveraged against you to make you buy another game to access same server network
Fr idk why ppl think asa severs won’t shut down in a couple years, poor guys
I play PvE official and absolutely loving it, I didn't even want SE to be released yet I'm loving the 2017 vibes on the island ofc I'm playing SE more atm but it's just cause it's there
woot shout out to my tribemate Dylan whos base is shown around timestamp 12.21 . we lived on island official 82 since the server opened until it was shut down.

Never played PVE or PVP servers. I only play Singleplayer without toxicity. 6,570 hours on ASE and 1,123 hours on ASA 😊
Tried to play official servers but all these lames will build foundations everywhere so u can't build anywhere. Pretty stupid .
I hope this information helps 😊
id argue against what dolphin said about pvp being amazing right now, the players left on 1x are players that are ok with putting up with cheating, even in their own tribe. there is no "last legit tribe", asa pvp is the most cheater infested game ever, and most people i know who want to enjoy the game legit quit a while ago. very sad for me to see the toxic community that offi pvp harbors now
Would have loved to get your perspective in the video itself. Thanks for sharing!
@@NeddyTheNoodle maybe next time 🙃🫡
i can second this and also take a look at the pvp server numbers, most servers have 2-3 people in them.
ye good point thats why people play unofficial getting aimboted on 1x or arkpoc when your not in a mega tribe you just lose hours of work. Besides unofficial pvp is more fun when you can play a 4man (or your ideal tribe size) server with friends and not have to get attacked by an unfair amount of players
Why did RUclips take 3 days to tell me about this?
Shame algorithm. Shame.
Love this video idea. You did a great job with it, sir.
Long story short:
-big base
-big dinos
-you can Boom-boom them.
X3 is ideal imo. Still have to work for what you need, but without breaking your back for it.
not to sound ignorant or anything but why do people play offical pve how come you guys dont just play singleplayer ?. like 1x pvp is bad let alone pve but let me know what u all think
I've played ark on and off, and enjoyed it a lot. The only issue I've had is graphical performance lol
And having all your work destroyed while you're offline...
Cannot play ASA because of my potato PC and no $ to build a new one, taking a time for now from singleplayer
Had some bad experiences on other games so I never played ASE on PvP - more than 7k hours between official and singleplayer
Started playing ASE on old 33 Island in 2017, met one of the most mature and friendly player communities and made several friends
True story, i played ark one time, and it's 300 hrs later
I love SOTF. I hope the devs fix it soon. We have a great community and it’s a shame they’re put zero effort into that side of the game.
It's a game where you can fight, tame and ride dinos
I play solo PVE (cus my console would explode if i played official) but i know damn well that if i played on pc I'd be FEENING like a crack addict
I think you missed out a really huge point, DINOSAWR🦖
From my experience many people that keep playing ark over and over and over and over again, esp on pvp servers, is due to them having an irl depression. So playing this type of game is not recommended if you want to get over your depression.
Yooo Credit Kurtis at the beginning 👍🏻
Womp womp im part of the addict guys btw first
oh my god dude, you talk about how ark is addicting but the in video advertisement is for raid shadow legends?
I quit the game i dont know how many times i hate the game but i cant stop playing
Idk i have several mental and physical disabilities. I think sometimes playing helps sometimes it worsens it.
I see ark everywhere in life. I can't help it. My dreams are sometimes ark related.
Thats just me 😊
I love this channel
❤
ARK RP is one the better scenes on the ARK games.
Especially where engrams are severely limited, and you need the blue prints to make something as simple as arrows. Really makes ppl work together and plan farther ahead
official is safe until Unreal 12 comes out and they shut em down
Ark and Grounded are the best survival games I’ve ever played Palworlds pretty good to but doesn’t feel as survival like
After 20k hrs on ps5 its still nice when you fob a whoul server terror bird run there walls n L1 cryofrigdes lol
I think the majority of ASE players are stuck because they either:
1: Can't run ASA (the poor optimization is amazing)
2: They don't trust the 🐌(Which, they'd be correct)
Or 3: there are more problems with ASA then ASE, take the amount of hacking/exploiting for example.
I bought ASA, and i'm stuck on ASE aswell due to not being able to run it. And i'm saying this with an NVIDIA RTX 4060TI 16gb, A very capable graphics card.
good thing I dont play pvp or pve if not all my dinos would be dead by now
I won’t play ASA until WildCard fixes the huge issue and that it can’t run on my pc and it meets the minimum standards for the game. Until then I will play ASE on my Switch!
Me: a free ps5? I already have one.
Neddy: $10,000
Me: whaterver it is, ill do it
Neddy: Raid Shadow Legends
Me: 💀
My friends think my 7000 hrs on the game come from pvp servers, I just left my game on in my own hosted pve server to get every creatures mutation through massive breeding farms. It was fine until I got to the mammals then I lost control. Had to detonate the nuke mod to save my game from the lag of thousands of stupid horny pigs.
