    I remember awhile back a really goofy idea I had for a Dark Heresy inquisitor is a dude that's actually on the ground with the rest of the party, which is actually pretty atypical of most inquisitors. This is because the dude is actually not the actual inquisitor but like 1 of 50 different surgically altered and mindwiped body doubles of the actual inquisitor that he himself hides amongst in order to bait out potential assassins.
    An even funnier idea I had for this is at some point the actual original inquisitor *did* die but the records of that got lost and now he's vicariously immortal through all his body doubles.

    One of my friends ran an Only War campaign. We did the "All Guardsman Party" start, with 10 characters and a high attrition rate. Its where i got my highest confirmed kill count in a game (43 total, 9 friendlies) and my commissar dueled a Distraction Carnifex, just for the Leman Russ full of survivors to flip and explode, killing everyone inside and leaving the Commissar alone with a 6 ton tank thats alive. Never had a better time

    Just to mention I really like the scale Dark Heresy operates at because things like a Tzaangor or an Acolyte hybrid with a buzzsaw, things that are almost always taken as a joke on the tabletop when up against other things like marines or necron immortals, are actually now pretty dangerous enemies the players have to take seriously.
    Likewise I think in the reverse that gives players a better appreciation for the larger scale the tabletop plays at. If the whole party only survived an Acolyte hybrid jumping by the skin of their teeth that only makes the fact actual marines can paste the things in like 1 turn all the more meaningful to their power.

    I've played in two Rogue Trader campaigns and one Deathwatch. First as an Ogryn named Thug Dakson, who was lauded as a genius for his grasp of economic theory in knowing that two things are usually worth more than one thing. If you only ever learn one thing about Ogryns in your life, know that the Emperor favors them. _Tangibly._
    Second as Lord-Captain Jango Danithor Harkonnen Antilles Calrissian, He Who Schmoozed All, He Who Mastered the Double-Cross. 70 fellowship and enough situational boosts to cap out the bonus. He was such a smooth talker he managed to convince the scion of another dynasty who he _may or may not have_ taken hostage (in his defense, she'd started it!) into an arranged marriage resulting in them becoming a cadet house. Of course, the game broke apart just before the launch of his new flagship, custom built by the local forge world and loaded to the gills with archeotech. Never did get to command it in battle, but it was a beaut.
    The Deathwatch campaign saw me in the role of Sidero Vrakion, the 'we have Iron Hands at home' of tech marines. Many an ork was immolated by his hand.

      My first Only War character was an Ogryn named Ozrikk, he was the medic of the group, who found the medicae equipment of a fallen Space Marine and wielded it on the field, he made sure all regiment members got their share of hugs, and he like to try to make sure everyone had their equipment polished. In the whole campaign, he successfully performed medicae on one person, one time. And he only broke a few pieces of equipment trying to polish them for allies.
      Ozrikk really cared for his friends

    Me and my uni friends had a good go at these a couple of years back and they were a BLAST. My poor luck in TTRPGs was exacerbated here and I kept dying, and I somehow became a daemonhost WITHOUT BEING A PSYKER during a Dark Heresy game.
    My previous character had gotten blown up by a grenade+munitions malfunction and so I rolled up a talky high-fellowship Scum character, and we were still on the planet so the inquisitor sent me down to join the party, and we ended up fighting a tech priest psyker heretek. They rolled a peril of the warp that swapped my body and theirs for a short time, but since their power was tied to xenos artefacts they had jammed in themselves (the acolyte of abraxis specialisation in Rogue Trader) I was allowed by the GM to use their powers to defend myself while I was in their body and getting shot at by the party. I tried putting up a telekinetic shield. I rolled a peril. I became a daemonhost. I also rolled seeming normality so I didn't transform. Our souls swapped back and nobody knew. The campaign ended as me and another daemonhost tried to wipe out the party in a climactic final battle. We didn't succeed but it was so much fun.

    Did a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaign, now our group is getting ready for a game of Only War where the "mission statement" is we've crashed after a warp error and are hexcrawling to figure out where we are and what horrors await us. Hardest part was building a regiment and finding where all of the inventory is actually listed in the book, since otherwise the game mechanics are very similar with your Weapon/Ballistic Skills, Toughness, Agility, etc.

Deathwatch for its hidden depths and excellent worldbuilding beneath a game where your party is a bunch of Doom Guys who can easily get involved between the shadow games between the inqusition, the imperium and it's enemies. Black Crusade for the climbing to glory from nothing and waging guerrilla campaigns against an insurmountable foe and political schemes.

Long story short the rouge trader who would not trade, the arch militant who wanted to be a fortnight character, and the navigator who only had the goal of being a furry, all died when they tried to do peace talks with the orks.

      I think IM is solid so far, but it's hard to compare since it's such a new game and has zero content in comparison to the vast library of the old d100 system. It's also only ever going to be a Dark Heresy type game; they don't have any plans of expanding it to allow higher tiers of play like we saw with Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, etc.

  • @ethantaylor9613
    @ethantaylor9613 2 месяца назад +1

    My general opinion on the D100 systems is that they are very cool when it comes to giving specific stats and abilities to all of the war gear present in the setting. They are a bit of a pain to run though because of how complicated they can be. For the love of God use the first edition of any of them you run because the second edition is much more shallow and less interesting along with being canceled so quickly that they barely have any support to speak of. Rogue trader the video game is cool, but it would’ve been way cooler if it had used first edition rogue trader as its inspiration.

    • @ihatevnecks7015
      @ihatevnecks7015 2 месяца назад
