Viola Chan: Flute Student
Hahaha I love Violaaaaa
the art of Irony naming
I thought it was a joke. Anime lovers would have understood something else
when your parents are Asian but you still want to be rebellious
😂
One of the best music schools in the world, no doubt.
2:50 ThatViolaKid
3:10 Ohhhh, a lute!
Very interesting video and overview of this school. Didn't know that it was surrounded by so many other grand areas in New York City. 😎🗽🌆
Oh haiiii! =)
@ThatViolaKid
Speak of the violist and he appears! Didn't see it coming! 😁
GuuzakaTube I
Viola Chan.
No, she plays the flute, not the viola.
No, she is not a Anime character. Chan is her family name.
I just recently started learning music at 23 with a soprano, an alto and a tenor recorder. Never had any band experience. I had to join the military because I am so low income and education benefits wont cover julliard. So I can only dream that in an alternate universe I have the skill and the money to attend such amazing institution and become a professional flutist and recorder player. So happy to see many successful students' stories. Also inspiring in a cruel, hopeless way. Sending everybody love and good vibes!!
I've always wanted to go to Julliard... But my parents never supported my music... I still have given up on my Cello though.
UltimateC2020 you still haven’t?
Oscat Hinojosa haven't ***
UltimateC2020 British lions match

I always wanted to go to Juilliard when I grow up I want to be an actress and I would like to do voice overs even though I'm 14 years old I'm still not going to give up.😊
Megan Albrecht same but I play violin
jayla Willis I play violin to. This would be a dream.
If you work hard and have the passion, then the dream's all yours. Don't be discouraged ~ ^_^ Good luck to all of you!
ivycat thank you for the kind words, it means a lot!
Seeing ThatViolaKid and Ryan Roberts warms my soul. Ive played Viola for 8 years and counting, but Oboe for 1 year, and i want to make it my main instrument now.
My 14 yr old son is a musician and plays the tuba. He lives and breathes music. He wrote his own music in 8th grade-spent months on it for a Spanish class project. John Williams? He is my son's idol since he was in 4th grade. We took him to see Mr. Williams in Baltimore. He wants to go to Juilliard. My husband and I support his dream and talent. I just hope we can afford it when the time comes!
Well, the time has finally come! It's 4 years later. Give us an update! 😁
I am happy to report that he was accepted into many colleges and conservatories. I edited this to add about why not Juilliard since that is the subject :-) He decided he didn't want to go to Juilliard-I think living in NYC just wasn't something he wanted-maybe he will want to try Juilliard for his masters-never know. He chose the Eastman School of Music which is a fantastic school. He is pursuing a 4 yr degree in Tuba Performance. He absolutely loves Eastman and it was worth all the sacrifices. Thank you for asking. ❤️❤️
@@mayedalshamsi see below ❤️
Although I would love to be in the drama division, I still love watching all the other divisions and watch what actually makes Juilliard Juilliard!
Nata Con Queso that's so true. I hope I can get there😍
I want to be in Drama Division too! It be such an honor to be amongst such great artists. I hope you make it there
We're so glad you enjoy the video, and best of luck as you apply!!
I love how they showed the oboe student making reeds.
I want to go here for college, and I’m a freshman now. I’m a singer and I’m being classically trained now by a vocal coach who graduated from college with a degree in music. I’d say I have a shot, and I’m never giving up
I love the image of the string quartet playing in front of the Canopus bop kit.
I'm saving to get into Juilliard. My life is piano, so that's were I've wanted to go since I was 11. I m 13 now, so I still have time to get scholerships and save. I hope to be there soon!
a human being who plays piano I love piano to.fingers crossed if I pass the Numazu west high school exam in three months I will study piano there.
@@thehappypiano2985 I am happy for you! I know I can't do that because of my large family, but I can still work hard and practice
This used to be my dream. I wash dishes now.
welcome to the real world
I don’t even bother washing dishes anymore.
Brandon foster who

I got to perform in Carnegie Hall with my choir a few years ago, I dropped choir and now am playing keyboards (marimba/vibe) and now I wish I had started earlier. It sucks
I will get into Juilliard's, sooner or later
Aayyy Drew, I see you there 😁
I’m a tubist and I really want to get into Julliard
It's so sad you don't showcase the Pipe Organ Department at at all, or Dr. Paul Jacobs!
Does the School have an age limit for admissions?
how many students are usually in one classroom?? or is it a one-on-one practice session?

I just wanted to know the piece
what is the piano concerto piece at 2:40? it is so lovely
It's Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, performed by the Juilliard Orchestra with Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner on piano, conducted by Mirga Gražinyté-Tyla. Here's the link to the details about that particular event with the program notes. Juilliard has more than 700 performances a year -- if you're in NY, come check one out! events.juilliard.edu/event/1562/mirga-grazinyte-tyla-conducts-juilliard-orchestra/?date=1972
I really want to go there 😍but I am 4 years away from applying
Viola Chan, flute student, shows piano in the background
Harpsichord🙌💙
Wow
does anyone know why that bridge at 3:23 is so different? The holes seem wider
Might be a really closed instrument that required some serious amount of flexibility and easy transmission of sound from the bridge. The luthier probably carved that out to help balance the sound a bit
I'm not sure if I am good enough though. But I really love music, it makes me feel better.
What is the level? (just approximate)
Ling Ling level, I'm sure
At Juilliard, musicianship and artistry are developed as a means to engage and inspire our local and global communities. Juilliard creates countless pathways for students to explore. The link below is a video of the jazz song "Spain" played with the traditional Korean instrument "Haegeum".

Juilliard has a wind orchestra, trombone choir, and various smaller brass ensembles as part of the chamber music program. You can learn more about ensembles and performance opportunities here: www.juilliard.edu/degrees-programs/music/performance-ensembles-and-opportunities.
I play Euphonium, is there a Euphonium program available?
Yes, I just got accepted into the Mayonnaise program.
Thank you for watching! Our brass department includes tenor and bass trombone and tuba, but there is not a euphonium program at this time. You can see a list of all instruments we offer instruction in at this link: www.juilliard.edu/music/instruments.

We offer a Pre-College program for young musicians, plus our Music Advancement Program also offers musical training to young students from throughout the tri-state area. Adults of all ages and abilities can also enroll in a class through our Evening Division: www.juilliard.edu/youth-adult-programs/evening-division.
