"I never heard it better" golden coming from a master like him.
Love that he gave it to her. He challenged her and she went with him. Master and Student working together.
i was like YESSSSSS when Mary played the fast section perfectly without the slurs!!! That was amazing. Great playing.
The last thing he said in the video: "I never heard it better". :D Now that's a compliment. :)
i am a professional trumpet player and i learned more in this video then i have in a long time. i want to thank you Mr Mayer for you and your colleagues being so musical and such great musicians.
Rubato: only emphasize one point in a frase.
Make it as simple as possible.
It doesn't add to the phrase to insert too many ideas....
Yes, Albrecht. You are absolutely right.
I have never heard it better- WHATATATTATATTATTA COMING FROM A GUY LIKE HIM?!?!?!?!
6:05 the intimidation on her face when she hears albrecht's single tonguing
I’m fascinated by the absolute difference between American and European oboe technique. It’s fascinating to see.
Ha! I just realised that lady is in the "Shit oboe players say" video... hilarious!
Brava Mary!!!!!!
I know right! Fantastic. It made me so happy for her!
what a phenomenal player and musician
Excelentes clases...
I love this excerpt so much!
She's amazing!
Sooooo beautiful playing Mrs!!! I played the oboe a few months... I was coming from 3 years of flute... I did not think the flute was manly enough for me... and soooo.... yeah.... the oboe.... Hmmmm, wow tough instrument!! The fingerings not so much, but the EMBOUCHURE!!! Oh boy.... I gave it up... The oboe is the most beautiful instrument in the world.... I'm still mourning it ahahah!! The oboe can bring tears to my face.... that's not manly isn't it? 😁 And.... so... I've been on the clarinet for 1 year, at the time of writing these lines.... The clarinet embouchure has some challenges, but nothing compared to the oboe... But hey YOU!!!!!! YES, YOU, READING THIS!!!! Do not underestimate the difficulty of playing the clarinet... the fingerings are WAYYYYYYYY more difficult than the oboe or the flute..... But.... let's come back to this wonderful lady oboist.... You made my day lady...... SOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!
Oh.... and I am happy on the clarinet now... 😁
The right reed can make all the difference on the oboe. I'm not saying it's easy, but those mass-produced reeds you buy as a beginner are simply wretched. Playing the oboe can and should feel like singing.
Bravo Mary!🙏🙏🙏
Nice. Love these videos.
my teacher plays this song ALL THE TIME when he warms up. what mr. mayer said here was super insightful.
song???? It's an expert.
Best ever! She handled it well. xD
im going to play the oboe
Say what you will but the guy plays like a god in Le Tombeau de Couperin with Boulez (on YT).,,,,,
it might have something to do with the fact that he tunes to a442 instead of a 440 and the tone changes somewhat
I was expecting a song and ended up watching a music lesson 😊
It's not a song. Songs are sung by a vocalist.
Wow! Does anyone know if she was single tonguing or double tonguing at the end? That was amazing!
If I were to guess, it was double tonguing. It looks similar to my own embouchure when I’m double tonguing. It’s a super useful skill. I approve! 😀
Tabuteau and for that matter, Barrett said the same thing!
um. it's a masterclass... with a master... he SHOULD talk. that's not a flaw!
e dopo la mafia e gli spaghetti colla pummarola 'ncopp ci mancava pure la scala di seta , proporrei una integrazione de "il padrino" con Don Vito che la suona TUTTA legata!! Comunque bravissima Mary !
To hold a master class, is always a special thing. But he can really convincing, despite a degree of arrogance which is however compensated by enough humor. It is surprising how often he posits the oboe, but does not play. Whether the girl has really blown the ultimate interpretation?
he is keeping the reed wet in case he wants to play
I want his jumper
Oh! I really should read the title...
She must really do swimming to relax her arms. Eventhough, the improvement is evident
Fantasric
Thank you for visiting our channel and listening.
The melody can be rythmically expressive without blatent rubato.
I'm just a intermediate oboist but where is the vibrato
Madiline Manchester It was there
It's on every little note....quite annoying in my opinion, as it disrupts the phrase constantly.
Are you nervous?
🙉mayer ohh my good. ....hahaha viva gli italiani ❤
but the slurs make it so much easier!
Just saying, I've heard this solo played with slurs many, many times, by American players, European, Asian ...
and so it should..
Present the entire time... if you are expecting more vibrato, then your concept of vibrato is probably way too wide.
Make it simple. I used to work with a conductor who would shout "STOP MAKING MUSIC!"
GUYS GUYS HIS SWEATER SAYS #1 lolol
Slurs italian......mah...!!!!. W the show!!!
Can't really understand fully what Mr.Mayer said,so the slurs are an addition of Italians to make easier the playing AFTER Rossini composed the whole thing? Is it true? ahah
Simpatico come un dito nel c...
Larsen Diamante Yes you're correct there was an Italian edition written after and it added the slurs however most people don't use that edition.
Quello lo sta inventando mister mayer..... ascolta toscanini con la scala di milano......
@@larsendiamante4492
Grande Guido ....così è!!!!!!!!! Hahahahahaha@@guidomgg
lol. that's funny! ;-)
I'm surprised by their posture, max looks the same as her, arms very close to the body, oboe looking down to the floor. Holding the instrument a bit higher and opening yourself to the audience should help to get more out of the oboe. With the technic they have, they could really do great things !
Glaude Paysan You’re confusing American oboe playing with European. Two very different ways to play the same instrument. However it’s quite interesting because we (oboist) often will mix the two to make a very personal sound. I think in this video we see two very amazing musicians with polar opposite styles. There’s hundreds if not thousands of oboe doctoral dissertations on these contrasting ways and quite interesting to read if you’re really that interested.

Geez such a critic
She is better than him...
That's subjective. Mary's tone sounds better because she is well warmed up and ready for performance, whereas Albrecht is merely demonstrating. She is a great artist in her own right, but Albrecht is far more experienced and masterful.
Boi have you even heard Albrecht play?
@@stormingbob Albrecht's tone is far better even if he isn't warmed up. That's where subjectivity comes. The European oboe sound is much richer in overtones and leaves a hall resonating.
Agree
Only flaw: The guy talking
Italian slurs???? Pathetic masterclass, totally negative. Sorry
Grande Guido ti lovvo!!!
