    he honestly doesnt sound bad. His sound is very good. he just needs to use more air and work on phrasing. but other than that? he's extremely talented

    My compliments to John Winstead. He managed to play the solo in one breath, as Albert sugested. Oh, he almost fainted, but this is another story.
    -
    I'll keep the image of standing as a lumberjack and then facing the solo.
    -
    Interesting... whenever I played this, I saw fields covered by snow, and the calm of the winter....

    The most beautiful teaching class I have ever seen. The teacher helps the student explore himself, draw out his ability to the full extent and complete it to the perfection, without demonstrating by himself.

    Albrecht Mayer is a genius and a vorbildlicher Mensch. Young Mr. Winsead will likely have a great career ahead of him. Hats off to both of these gentlemen.

    Can you jerks all be nice, he's a very great oboe player, just like what was already said here, he wouldn't be there for nothing, he did very awesome, stop criticizing, I bet none of you can play as good as him, you don't deserve that, but he does.

    • @gcg8187
      @gcg8187 7 лет назад

      Andy Milsten you think he did awesome, that's very good, good for you. Some people don't think he did awesome, their opinions are equally valid. All opinions are equally valid as are all constructs of the Mind.

    *In reply to Turdy, who said "I watch it to feel superior, because I think the flute sounds better :-P"
    That is a matter of opinion. I know that the reason many enjoy Oboe is that it is the closest thing to the sound of a human voice, singing- an Oboe is two reeds vibrating against each other, and singing is your two vocal cords vibrating against each other.
    I personally fell in love with the Oboe's 'unique' sound (I play oboe), but that is my opinion, on the instrument I enjoy the most. No instrument is the best or the worst. They are all essential and important in an orchestra or band. Of course, when you listen to beginning players, Flute sounds okay, maybe a little breathy. Oboes, however, sound like a dying duck. Clarinets sound like a choking cat. (Etc...)

    • @matthewlin754

      A muted trumpet sounds a lot like an oboe. A trumpet's range is also more similar to the human voice's range.

    I am an oboist and I have a problem to play for a long period of time, for example, when I try to play a concerto. After a while, the air starts to pass through my nasal cavity instead of my oboe, and it forces me to stop. Does anyone has the same problem or has a suggestion for me to solve this?.

    • @victoriamontes915
      @victoriamontes915 4 года назад +1

      it happened to me one year ago. After trying many ways to put an end to this unpleasant problem, the only solution I had was stopping 2 weeks without playing anything. That's a radical way but when you are desperate this is the best remedie. Good luck!

So here I am trying to get help. Please help me. Thank you for your time.😊

      This is the problem with playing with standing. Most oboe players are always sitting when playing, but standing takes MUCH more breath than sitting. His breath is probably fine when sitting at his level/was very nervous/took too shallow of a breath at the beginning because of nervousness.

  • @Shurvoice
    @Shurvoice 4 года назад +1

    wonderful direction from the master, but the young student is rather shy and lacking in the real skills needed for breath/power control. My specialty as a voice coach is helping people learn a very easeful way of expanding/stregnthening the in/out breath.

    I really don't like how John Winstead plays. It's without any kind of emotion. Just notes he plays and his sound is like a 8 year old girl without any power. Why does someone like Mayer teach such an beginner of oboe? Please breeeeathe little guy

    • @ShadeGirl123
      @ShadeGirl123 7 лет назад +5

      ChrisMusikar I disagree. He has a great sound, the only problem is that since he breathes incorrectly while playing, he cant sound emotional. Yeah, he sounds boring, but his tone is great. if he worked on phrasing and breathing, he'd be fine

    • @tamberking4302
      @tamberking4302 7 лет назад +11

      ChrisMusikar Have you played in front of Mayer yourself? It's a totally different experience than playing before an audience when you play under the wing of someone you admire, let alone someone legendary...in front of other wonderful players as well. When any of you critics put yourself through this learning experience, I would love to see the results.

    • @haleypalten2352

      Turdy no offense but oboe has a way more beautiful and pure sound. flute sounds pretty, but its very generic and lacks a lot of quality

    • @markgaddie6290
      @markgaddie6290 6 лет назад +1

      I'm a flute player so this might be biased but I don't think it is generic at all. We have variety too! It's all within the player and their ability to create different qualities of sound. Same with any other instrument but I love double reeds just because of solos like this. I'm not just watching this beautiful piece for no reason. :)

    • @skeetthyreet4188
      @skeetthyreet4188 5 лет назад +5

      That is all with personal opinion. Us oboes players may think oboe sounds better because it is our instrument and part of us, so we can be more biased towards our own instrument. But we have to realize that played properly, each and every instrument can bring a tear to a persons eye from the amazingly moving music. As an oboe player, I have been told by many musicians that oboe can be the most moving when played correctly. But, I just say that any instrument can because every instrument has.

    • @ynocturne2
      @ynocturne2 5 лет назад

      I don’t play either instrument but if I were to choose I would be an oboe because it’s a rare, unique instrument. When you look at an orchestra you’ll probably find more flutes than oboe, and it’s good, but you want different sounds to make a full orchestra.

    This is the same gay scale song the bassoon player was doing. Wtf is this shit. Prolly pay 50k a year to play a scale on a gay instrument.
