What a gift! Since the very first note, there is a sensation of entering a magical realm only music can bestow. A performance which transmits the best of their souls and hearts, exquisite sounds of each instrument. Congratulations
I am just glad that we have these videos - so future music historians can know just how simply badass these instruments can be played. The bar is set high - this is simply astounding in every way. Thank you, Albrecht!
I wonder if it turned out as heavenly at the concert as at the rehearsal. Something amazing. How much inspiration you need to create something like this. Bravo Mr. Handel and Mr. Mayer.
I just absolutley love this! Albrecht Mayer is most fantastic!. the Oboe, Oboe D'Amore, English Horn and blessedly beautiful instruments. The Basson is great too. I'm a Clarinet player and i long to just even play a single note on the Oboe.
I am an oboist and today I tried an oboe d'amore for the first time... Mayer's sound is SO much better you wouldn't even know they were the same instrument :)
shnimmuc But also Handel must be played by a gifted musician to sound heavenly; Albrecht Meyer is supremely talented in this respect. Try listening to other musicians who play the oboe - the sound that they produce is rarely as silken and honeyed as his.
I do not know how this guy manages to produce such a beautiful sound from his oboe (D’Amore here or, - when he is playing the more usual oboe). It sounds like what I would imagine silk to sound like if it had a sound, Not an earthly sound, like the tearing of silk, no. This is other worldly- honeyed toned, glistening silk sound. So rare - but he has the gift of producing it. Yet for years I was wondering, “ Why all my friends talk about Albrecht Meyer?” Now, after studying the oboe a bit more, and listening to more of these hautbois people, yes, I get it. He is brilliant. And I will never be more than a dummy at the back of the class orchestra !
oboe is such a beautiful instrument when played well.. people who think it sounds like a dieing duck should hear this. its actually much more beautiful than violin
Two things. Beginning oboists sound terrible largely because commercially-available reeds are wretched; even a professional would sound crappy on them. Yes, beginners also lack the embouchure to get the most out of any reed, but a good reed goes SUCH A long way on the oboe. Regarding the oboe's reputation as a horrible, nasal, duck of a woodwind, I blame Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. For so many children, this is the first oboe they'll here, and it's a very poor representation of what the instrument is capable of. You may as well have the clarinet play nothing below high G. Kids would think all clarinets were screechy and piercing, not realizing how smooth, dark, and mellow the tessitura (can that term be applied to non-vocal instruments?) can be. The bassoon actually receives similar treatment. Grandfather is gruff and low, but sang with such a plaintive tenor in his younger days.
@@calderwishne9688 cool to remember this coment of mine! Almost a decade later and I still love the oboe. I've become a professional cellist, but someday I will still buy a good oboe and learn it.
Handel is smiling - this is an example of perfect performance by the best in the world. I don't think Handel ever imagined it played like this in his wildest imagination!
his oboe in in the first song seems to be a full conservatory oboe along with his english horn i believe. the second song, he is playing the oboe d'amore, which has the bocal and maybe be full conservatory in addition to its obvious extra length
OMG how beautiful! The oboe has always been my favorite high-pitched instrument, and you just don't see nearly enough music for oboe d'amore or english horn. THanks for posting!
@JStrange13 Totally agree, Mayer is perfection, I can only assume that the 6 people that didn't like it sit at home watching the x-factor thinking it's real music!!!!!!!
Is it any wonder why Beethoven said the following; "Handel was the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head, and kneel before his tomb." Well Beethoven may not have had the chance. But I do every time I visit his tomb at Westminster Abby.
Albrecht Mayers Klangbild gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut.

Ringraziamo Dio per averci mandato Handel e i suoi vari esecutori 🙏❤✨🎇🌌🌞
Correcto !

Well done, wonderfull tune and great performance. While listening I could feel warmth and peace in my soul. Thanks a lot.
SO PERFECT AND MOVING. THE IDEAL OF OBOE. And he is a nice person. Not easy to find in a good oboist
Maestro Mayer has excellent phrasing and superb musicality. Bravo!
Un bello dialogo musical excepcionalmente interpretado.
Bravo!! Albrecht Mayer
This is perfection. So graceful. So swift. Pure joy.
This is the most beautiful music i've ever heard!
12 years!
Albecht Mayer,,,what a fantastic musician.I love the music he plays, each performance is like a masterpiece of art.

Gracias !!!
amazing musician not only oboist but conductor
Albrecht: you are amazing and beautiful!
He is brilliant,as always...and I have no words to explain my feelings while listening this greatest musician of the world!!!
que bello lo amo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am an oboist and today I tried an oboe d'amore for the first time... Mayer's sound is SO much better you wouldn't even know they were the same instrument :)
I wish I had an oboe d'amore. It's similar to an English horn but not quite as mellow and hollow sounding. Both are lovely.
OMG! that's so great, mild, I would be the guest violinist of Albrecht.
albrecht mayer is a god. his love for the oboe and its music truly shines through when he plays.
This is one of the best piece I've ever heard in my life! Cheers from Brazil.

I could listen this music again and again.
Beautiful índeed.
This was beautiful, it made me think of something else then the music. And that is a good thing.
Well done! An excellent performance from Albrecht Mayer, as always. And always wearing a stupendous sweater.
One listener commented that Albrecht should burn the sweater!
Breathtaking.
I just love the sound of the oboe.
Heavenly, thank you
Genial, fantasic... Danke !!!

Maravilhoso!!!! 👏 👏 👏
just wonderful!
i never thought violin was even close to sounding as amazing as the aboe
Wonderful. Handel must be smiling, I know I am.

Magnifico
This piece convinced me to play the oboe. No regrets.
Immer Fantastisch!
me encantaaaaaa
pure
Handel i zvuk oboe d`amore~savrseno!
magnifico
I like the lute player chewing gum at 4:45 :-))
I thought all lute players chew gumm while playing, they teach you that at Julliard.
I play the oboe; what you say is very true. Most people have only ever heard mediocre oboe-playing.
OMG how beautiful! The oboe has always been my favorite high-pitched instrument, and you just don't see nearly enough music for oboe d'amore or english horn. THanks for posting!
From low to high it goes the Heckelphone (Bass), baritone oboe (Baritone), english horn(Tenor), oboe d'amore(alto), and the oboe(soprano).
wooooooow que bien un verdadero maestro =)
Bravo!
Perfect! Lindo!!!
4'47" - love the theorbo player munching away on chewing gum...
Very good
magnificent playing, inspired, words cannot describe
wow the bassoon is so lively too at the end XD
@JStrange13 Totally agree, Mayer is perfection, I can only assume that the 6 people that didn't like it sit at home watching the x-factor thinking it's real music!!!!!!!
Tornami a vagheggiar 😍 oboe sounds like a sweet voice. It is was favorite's Handel instrument
Beautyful ❤️
Lovely violin accompaniment
Yes, but may be too "accompaniment"? I'd love a bit more life in violin too
These are all transscriptions for oboe. f.e. 1. Largo from Sonata g-minor HWV 393 / watch the titles in the video.
ah, "tornami a vagheggiar" sounds possibly more beautiful than in its vocal form!
Not if Amanda Forsythe is the soprano
Encantador!!
by all means call me ignorant but what is the second instrument he's playing, it looked like he cross bred a cor anglais and an oboe!
That's an oboe d'amore, which is basically that. It's like playing a little English horn, but definitely distinct enough to be its own instrument.
@@therealtornadosam LMAO damn a reply 12 years later. Thanks for the info though! I don't even play Oboe anymore but good to know.
The 7 people who disliked this don't have souls.
I think it's just for decoration. He is the top artist for Buffet oboes and I am sure he can ask for whatever he wants.
@Mari94Air And very fortunate! You are right.
If you would like to hear this piece sung by the most incredible soprano, Amanda Forsythe backed up by Apollos Fire with Jeanne Sorel.
Is it any wonder why Beethoven said the following;
"Handel was the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head, and kneel before his tomb."
Well Beethoven may not have had the chance. But I do every time I visit his tomb at Westminster Abby.
Handel, Beethoven and Bach!!!
He never said that lmao
God I hope I get a ticket for this when he is in the US
I thought so, but what about the ring around the reed receiver?
It's like I've found a treasure buried underground.
yes you're right the recording is bad, even on the CD, what a pity!
@oboistCONDUCTOR thank you for your agreement!he is the greatest musician I have ever seen!
👏👏👏👏👏👍
that's why they call it "oboe of love"
👍👍👍👍👍🇯🇵👍👍👍👍👍
Lol the jumper is cute ^^
