    First of all, late versions of max became far far more stable. The second thing is modeling features like smart extrusion and chamfer modifier turned max into powerful hard surface modeling tool.
    Looking at the developers forum we can say that soon 3ds max character animation tool set like CAT is going to be improved.
    PS Some things still surprise me like the absence of texel density and strange desire not to implement regularize tool.

      @@o0Revlimit0o Peter France and Ian Hubert have both demonstrated the more-than-capable power of Blender for VFX (even on Cycles) and they have been contracted to create dazzling VFX shots for ILM using Blender exclusively. Both artists only work in Blender. Additionally I've SEEN both Pixar and ILM using Blender for certain shots and scenarios involving real-time production. I'm personally working on a fluid sim right now in Blender with results I've only achieved in Houdini, simply to see if it can come close and it absolutely does. Houdini is far more powerful though for many reasons. I don't say this with bias towards any software, but ignoring Blender and its capabilities is unwise, it's a powerful platform, especially for artists without a gratuitous amount of resources and money. It's not the software, it's the artist.

  • @christianbohm6118
    @christianbohm6118 2 года назад +8

    Makes it sound like Max is used as much as Houdini and Maya, which is not the case. Max is by far the least used software in VFX and is dying out. The films you listed are 10 years old. And ILM for example only uses max for environment. I've worked at ILM, Framestore and MPC and have never seen Max used outside of environment. Max is an incredibly bad choice as a beginner, it is barely used nowadays and will dissapear soon. Half of what you are saying here is simply wrong nowadays. Especially in FX Houdini is the main tool in the whole industry, even ILM adapted Houdini. Almost nobody uses Max for FX anymore.

    • @3dalgeriearchitectureetdes832
      @3dalgeriearchitectureetdes832 2 года назад +3

      while what you say is actually right ,you are wrong on certain point. the video is not about the usage of 3ds max in the industry but about it's capabilities, i'm pretty sure that you agree with me that tyflow and thinking particles are by no mean bad products. and talking about beginner friendly houdini is well harder than anything else . perhaps the last studio heavy on 3ds max is scanline vfx but that doesn't make the software itself bad . and vfx is not just explosions, environment , matte painting and even hard surfaces are a part of it even if less glamorous.

      The biggest lie of Max haters, that is going to die soon, Max produces more money for Autodesk than Maya, if Autodesk would be going to kill one of them it will be Maya.
      Plugin community is very well alive, PhoenixFD, vRay and all the other renders, FumeFx 6.0 is new, TP, finalFluid, TyFlow is very well alive and vibrant community. Max is used in a lot of fields, from Medical Visualization, ArchViz, Product Viz, VFX and Animation.
      So there you go stop spreading the lie.

      Yes, VFX describes the whole industry,FX is only a specific department in it. unfortunately in games they use the term vfx to describe fx, which simply nonsense and confusing. But in the vfx industry it's clear - vfx describes the whole industry, fx the specific department.

      @hjf4a2 Blender has been used by ILM for a lot of work on The Mandalorian. Blender is many things, but it is certainly not even remotely close to being garbage at anything.

    • @efeozturk5253
      @efeozturk5253 2 года назад +2

      @hjf4a2 calling x software garbage with little to no explaining why is pretty useless. garbage for what exactly? you keep talking about vfx etc, blender has no issues with vfx, you can import realflow particles, you can import houdini simulations. render in redshift if you fancy that even can use vray.
      it's biggest issue is not having a place in pipelines. and it's a nightmare to export your renders to nuke.
      do you know why ancient softwares like photoshop or 3ds max hardly ever touches their crucial functionalities? because they have to follow if aint broke dont fix it to make sure all functions and plug ins for it works flawlessly so the guy who animates shit doesnt have to worry about his tools.
      blender's devs on the other hand, are ambitious. nearly half of the plugins got broken with 3.2 release because they fixed python stucture whatever the fuck which wasn't exactly broken. eventually they'll stop doing this once the blender is a complete package. until then, massive companies cant risk their piplines for ever changing blender for now. it's not just better VFX thing.

    Pro Tip:
    Don't start a video talking about VFX explosions coupled with footage of a shot (Spectre) of a REAL explosion captured in-camera. That shot was done on location with controlled explosives and the actors safely positioned to compose the angel. The only computer-aided manipulation in that shot is the colour grading. There are no computer generated effects in that shot whatsoever.
