    After using houdini professionally for the last four years, and blender for personal work, I recently switched to Max. Max is king, IMO. It is the best combination of excellent plugins/powerful built in tools, and much more logical and easy to understand compared to houdini. Combine it with VRAY, and it is an incredible workflow compared to most, if not all, other packages. I would say Blender is a not so far off second place, but still not quite as good overall.
    Everyone hates on it because of Autodesk... but don't knock it till you try it.

      Well said, I I would say the seasoned max user would have hoped that the CEOs at Autodesk had also realized that they already had the “king” when they purchased Maya in 2006 and then unfortunately decided to invest much less into Max’s further development than they would have almost certainly done without Alias’s acquisition.

    Most movie VFX done in 3ds max was created with FumeFX in combination with Thinking Particles. FumeFX was done for all the smoke and fire and TP was done for destruction. That was the best combo.

    Thinking particles is the most underrated tool in the world of social networking. It's a far cry from other unproven tools that are exciting the social networking world...

    I love MAX and hope it never dies. But unfortunately Autodesk seems hell bent on it. Really hope they keep improving on it, and stop relying on 3rd part plugins to keep it above water.

    • @hound_of_justice
      @hound_of_justice 4 месяца назад +2

      3ds Max isnt dying without 3rd part plugins, its just that some of them make it even better than it is. In game development for example you dont really "need" a single 3rd party plugin for 3ds Max. Although Octopus, Rapid Tools, Assembly and few more bring even more productivity in the workflow. At the end of the day extensions are something that you will find across all different software users and shaming 3ds Max for having people customizing and extending the experience even further is something that some people love to do but its stupid.

      TP by far

    • @rman197
      @rman197 3 месяца назад +5

      TyFlow is better in almost every way. It's faster cheapier (TyFlow FREE can do A LOT) and has more options. TyFlow community is very active - thare are TONS of tutorials and free setups. TP is expensive, its community is dead and it's slow. No I'm serious - it's SLOOOW. The only good (I would say more - amazing) thing in TP - its physic engine for rbd simulations (destructions mostly) called Shape Collision (SC). But if you are going to do only destructions - I would better stick to Houdini. Learn TP now it's like learn a dead laguage.

    is thinking particles and tyflow same ?

  • @o0Revlimit0o
    @o0Revlimit0o 4 месяца назад +1

    I would so so love to learn TP but there lies the problem in my opinion... there is just sooo little educational material available for TP and the fact that it costs like 60€ a month is also a big hurdle.
    I know they have a learners license but that one is just to heavily restricted in every aspect.
    If TP was easier accessable for learners then right now I would certainly be learning TP instead of Houdini...

      For pure modeling. 3ds max is the best by far . You need add +50 add-ons in blender to have what max does alone.

    How did Maxon manage to implement such a horribly useless version of “thinking particles” for C4D back in the day?

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx 4 месяца назад +5

      Thats an important part of the history of tP not covered in the video. tP started as an alliance between cebad and maxon to develop a particle system for cinema4d. This way the first version of thinking particles was born using xpresso UI in cinema 4d. They break the relation after couple of years and cebas ported tP exclusively to max and keep developing it there.

    No matter how many good movies are made with 3Ds Max, its interface enough for me to hate it! Man, imagine working on a project for hours while looking at that shitty interface.

    • @timothyschreiber
      @timothyschreiber 4 месяца назад +14

      The seasoned max user actually thinks it’s the best interface that was ever created for a 3d program, especially the modifier stack and having all relevant commands/buttons only available inside the modifier stack when pressing them actually makes sense for the current mode you are in seems absolutely genius and unique to Max users. They absolutely love it, just for that alone already.

    • @Iqroh

      I like 3ds max's interface, your opinion is subjective. If you don't like it doesn't mean that it's shit. For me, Blender's interface is not good enough but it doesn't mean that I should come and spread some shit about others choices.

    • @peterblake988
      @peterblake988 4 месяца назад +5

      Blender's interface is in your head, given the absurd number of keyboard shortcuts you need to know to do basic stuff.
