My new Weld Monger TIG gloves arrived yesterday! After doing my happy dance I put them on and wore them around the house in the afternoon. I was very sad when my wife told me I had to remove them while we ate dinner. LOL Great product Jody!
Man I’ve been welding for almost 2 decades and I’m sitting here watching you weld. I stick and flux core mostly. I started my own business and looking to brush up on my tig. You do amazing work my friend!
I sure do appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I’m 59 years old and excited to have found Tig welding. Learning to use my new Miller 220 as well. Will be dropping by your store to get a few things. God bless.
I always liked working with steel but being a Carpenter liked that change from working with timber. Welding is definitely great fun as a hobby and doing good welds puts a smile on the dial big time. Thanks for the videos !
Thank you Jody, for both your products and the content you create! I was out of the tig game for years and bought an everlast machine last year to get going again. You have saved me a lot of time, money and experimenting. You are an inspiration to us all.
I really have to watch your TIG videos twice... First time, I'm watching your puddle so closely that I forget to listen and have to back up to catch what you're saying. I bet I'm not alone.
Hello, I want to thank You for inspiration and knowledge You’re shearing. Long time ago I was a welder but this days are gone :) But I’m doing it in privet yard. Best regards fro Poland
Just last week, I ran into the same type of welding scenario and was fighting a squirly arc. The arc also wanted to extend straight down, behind the electrode, rather than inline with the tip of the electrode. The steel tube did not have mill scale and was 16ga 1"x3" with 22.5 degree miters and even a couple pieces laying parallel. I grind the 2% thoriated on a dedicated bench grinder wheel and then slightly blunt the tip, and run 20 cfh of argon. The joints were prepped with a flap wheel but they were half and half of super tight fit and some with a 1/16" gap or so. It had all the same joints as in your video and I opted to fuse the corners vertical downhill without filler, due to how thin it was and the 1" length of the corner. My thought was maybe the ground clamp location (on my fab block welding table, but with clamps holding the tube to the table), contamination or oil from the inside of the tube (washed the outside), sheilding gas issue, or grind on tungsten. Unfortunately, I am using a Miller 330abp, but would love to have the capability of the miller 220. Instead, I bought the Miller 211 inverter a few years back and it is a very capable, and versatile machine that is light enough to take to job sites and can do some work on 120v while having the same umph as the 220.......easily handling 3/8" material. The pulsed weld is amazing in your video and would be so nice to have in the 220, although a dynasty 280 would be my dream machine.
Please be careful with thoriated tungsten , you really don’t want to breath tungsten dust regardless but as I’m sure you know thorium has a very long half life and stays in the body where it accumulates. Try to grind outside and wear a respirator p100 3M mask regardless of grinding indoors out out. Thanks for sharing !
I learned a lot from this video. Bought an Everlast 250EX and it’s my first welder. I was blowing holes is square thin wall tubing so it’s time to try the pulser. Your videos are top notch.
@@spoolinsvt6489 I really enjoy using it and am happy with it. Tig wise it doesn’t have some of the advanced settings a dedicated Tig would have but it runs well in all modes. The auto set is also nice for someone like me, who might not use a particular process often. The way it switches back and forth from Mig to Tig with just hitting the pedal or trigger is pretty slick. Overall, if you have limited space and need a mig, tig, stick that does Ac/Dc I’d recommend it.
@@JeffinTD Thanks for the reply, Yeah it seems like a pretty well rounded machine. The only one that does what it does looks like the HTP 2500 but I would prefer to stay american albeit , it is not entirely american made but still. I have never welded and i started out by looking into the Lincoln 215mpi or the millermatic 215 and I prefer the millermatic but the lincoln is on rebate right now so $600 cheaper than the miller. Then I worked up and saw the miller 220 on rebate right now so I am considering that, $3700 after rebate right now. Prices has sky rocketed in the last couple years but what are ya gonna do ya know.
The contributor below is bang on target. I shall have to watch this video again. I was fascinated by the weld arc and the puddle and did not concentrate on your narration. Bugger it... I'll enjoy it twice!
No matter what you're TIG welding...can't be too clean. That carbon steel tubing usually has oil inside from the manufacturing process....Good that you mention that here several times...!
Thanks for another great video Jody! Had a 215 on order but decided on a 220 to have the AC tig option. Little backyard side deal going on since taking a desk job kind of missing the game!
If you go out and weld something the weather will blow your shielding gas away, causing porosity on your welds. (Unless you're using SMAW process) Stay inside and weld something instead.
Love it. Thank you. I have one of these machines. Lost all my welding equipment in the Camp Fire. Trying to learn the settings and your videos are great
I'm going back and watching your videos over again. I enjoy the lessons. I was wanting to ask you. You do something I don't believe I've seen anybody else do it. At the end of the weld during post flow you rest the tungsten on top of the finished weld. What exactly does that do? I appreciate your time.
New to welding. Really appreciate your thorough explanations. Learning a lot. I have a Mill Trailblazer 302. What’s the best way to learn to set it up for tig? As I said, I’m a beginning welder.
Thanks Jody, timely video. I just got a new DC machine with pulse. Can you do a video on DC Tig plug/rosette welds on sheet metal? I'm thinking getting the pulse settings right might help me with the edge of the top piece retreating from the arc.
Do you feel the inability to set your own peak on time and background amps, while in pulse mode, is a major drawback to this machine, or does it do a good job of determining the settings for each application? Love your videos and the products you offer in your store. Keep up the great work, Jody.
Hey Jodi. I need some help with tig torch kit. Im getting pretty frustrated trying to find answers. I've got a stubby furik gas lens and #12 cup that both fit in my torch but i cant find a collet that will fit. Do you know which kind i need to make it work?
There has to be a funny story behind the hole in the middle of your shirt. This reminds me of the time a blob of molten steel fell into the top of my hiking boot...
Hi Jody, I have the same Miller welder. Was wondering the uses of the various size Tig torches. When would one be better then the other. I’m new to Tig welding. Thank you!
I’ve been going through every Multimatic 220 video, lots mentioning their AC- high frequency, but then there’s nothing in the video welding aluminum or showcasing the high frequency. How is it? Can we get that?
At the low current he's at there's no reason to. In fact you really never should need to let the machine cool unless you hit the duty cycle. The torch maybe sure but this isn't really heavy welding. Plus I imagine arc time is super limited when he is doing all this filming. He's so good at getting the right camera angles to see what he is doing and all of that probably takes a ton of time in addition to the time it takes to prep and set up between welds.
I asked because this machine in the tig function at 150 amps has a duty cycle of about 30% and he averaged about 150 amps on his long pulse pass. I'm thinking about getting one of these machines so I'm trying to find out if will be able to handle what I plan on doing with it.
brent buckardt duty cycle is per 10 minutes so you can weld for 3 minutes straight at 150 amps. on mine duty is 20% at 200 a and I've over loaded it once on 12mm (1/2 inch) ally after about 20 minutes lol
Have you ever found it hard to taper off when using pulse. Do you get any crater cracks or any other defects at the end of the weld. I’ve never had the chance to use pulse it doesn’t look hard but it’s just something I’ve never been able to experience
Thanks for the great videos! Question please... Why do I keep hearing TIG welders insist on purging tubes from the inside with argon to avoid contamination and flaky internal welds, but I never hear MIG welders requiring purging tubes with CO2, C25, or C30 to avoid that problem which does not seem to occur with this type of welding?
It does just as bad if not worse than with tig, but tig is generally used for the cleanest possible fault free results. Therefore any little thing you can add to the already big prep work will only pay off in getting that perfect weld! You can purge your mig welds too if needed for the application , it all depends on the application in the end . Tig is usually used for critical jobs where utmost care and precision is the ultimate goal and advantage of the process . Full control over every variable is the beauty of tig , anything you can do extra with reason for the given application should be done , they coincide and make a big difference. Personally there’s nothing like smoking a fentanyl M30 and hitting the puddle but that’s just me.. I’m a massive arc and fentanyl junkie 🥹
