If you are taking it out its cheap enough to replace it so you know it's new. Unless you bought recently

If it still opens and closes doesn’t mean it works, that rubber seal you were pressing on becomes weak and let’s coolant in when it’s closed. So even if it opens and closes still dosnt mean it words especially under pressure in a closed system
