for a few years, I did a cost per mile test on various tires for my motorcycle (I lived in Texas and rode 25,000+ miles a year). I got the best two results from a Michelin PR4, and a Shinko 705. I tried the 777 featured but didn't get quite as good of cost/mile and it is a bit harder of a rubber so I didn't prefer it in wet weather and spirited riding. I've also gotten nearly the same cost from the 011 Verge tires, and have a set ready to spoon on once the 705 rear I have needs replacing. I just wish the sizes were closer to my bikes ideal. But, ride old odd machines, deal with parts issues.
I run the 700's or 705's on my bike normally, although I have a couple of 244's on there right now. I went through much the same math as you did, and also found out that a shinko tire was a lot cheaper per mile. My issue is, my DR650 eats back tires about every 6,000 miles. It doesn't matter if it's a $200 Metzler Sahara or a $50 Shinko 700, it's done for in two oil changes, so I might as well get a cheap one.
@@Oddman1980 I've gotten 10,000+ miles from the 705 radial on 730lbs of Honda ST1100. But to do that in Texas, in summer, I needed to modify the blocks to get the heat out of the rubber. I added sipes and holes in the middle of the blocks to do that. A couple of guys with GS1250s were getting close to the same miles one up, but one often has his wife aboard and then he too has has heat issues. Thumpers are often harder on tires (sprockets and chains too) and if I had a DR (or an XL/XR more likely being Honda biased) I would use the 705 for summer, but the 244 for cold weather riding and likely ride more in winter than now (is a bit dangerous on the ST as my town doesn't salt the street). I have 244s on an old CB450T and it worked well in snow, I should get it running again and get the starter motor version together and use it for cold riding. Time, seem to have run out of time since moving.
What are your thoughts regarding the 005 Advance radial tire? I have an M109R and was thinking about trying them. For the fitment (240/40R18) I could only use either the 005 Advance Radial or the SR777.
@@DrAlmurshidy I have run the rear before I kept track, but only once, and I recall it stuck well enough wet or dry, but didn't last long enough to go with again, also I think I was about to take a trip so I wanted a stock or hair taller rolling tire and just never looked at it again for whatever reason. @@jpsother1183 Thanks, that would be the first tire change on my M109R. The stock tire is 9 years old now with +8k miles on it. The bike is not the lightest or the most nimble, didn't want to add one more thing to deal with.
As soon as I wear out the original tires on my baby GS, I'll be installing Shinko dual sport tires. From what I've read, they offer good performance, good value (not quite as long lasting as some but probably the best $/mile) and the side walls aren't so stiff that they're difficult for home mechanics to install with hand tools. As an American automation engineer, I was surprised to see how many operations were manual instead of automated. I was also surprised to see the machinery hazards. Many machines had rollers with pinch points, and that giant guillotine cheese cutter. :-o In the US, safety regulations would have required a light curtain to ensure no body parts were in the danger zone.

Dei umas voltas, e a moto ficou horrível, parecia q a frente tava rebaixada!! A dirigibilidade ficou péssima!!
These tyres look to be really well made, I was worried about the quality of these tyres, not being a brand i know and trust, but as it was fitted to a Harley Davidson, I don't care, it can't make the handling any worse.
Through this video, I came to know, the process of making tires. I think it's just the rubber being pressed. In reality, the process of making new tires is quite long. Very educational videos.
Very cool! Worked in a tire recapping plant back in the 80s. Wasn't as automated but same basic processes. Gets very hot working around the steam molds, especially the car molds since they were in rows of 8 individual molds stacked 3 high. The daily batch of tractor trailer tires when into a giant steam chamber, cooler there but much more strenuous work since the molds were hand stretched onto the casing with the new rubber on it and they weighed far more. I never ran recapped tires again after see how it was done, grind off old tread, spray glue on and wrap new rubber on to them then cured in steam mold.
Little sister road her softail harley on these. The tires work as well a avon or michelins. I have Hankook Optimas on my 1994 Ford Grudunza. Another good Korean brand.
Thank you for uploading the video. It was helpful. Watching the video, I felt that it was a very dangerous task because there were many rotating machines. Be safe.
I use this company's tires on my ktm 990. It runs great in summer and winter all the time. Until a few years ago, the rating was very bad, but after the technical alliance with Yokohama Tire, the rating is good.
I have a business repairing motorcycles, mostly older ones. I use to use Dunlop 404 for standard applications but they'd come back weather-checked after only 1 year. I started using Shinkos and usually recommend them first as they've held up well and perform great while being reasonably priced.

They just get mashed up with rubber. Once, a worker fell in the hole and the same happened to him. They can't stop the machine 'cos the rubber sets, so they just have to keep going. I guess there's a few people who've been riding around on that poor guy.

Dei umas voltas, e a moto ficou horrível, parecia q a frente tava rebaixada!! A dirigibilidade ficou péssima!!
amazing tire production, all the tools are very sophisticated my brother
Now we know the prosess...Nice video !?
Ah, cool. Motorcycle tires. Great video creation. Editing, sound and music.
Thanks.
These tyres look to be really well made, I was worried about the quality of these tyres, not being a brand i know and trust, but as it was fitted to a Harley Davidson, I don't care, it can't make the handling any worse.
Uve never rode a harley then never found one harley that didn't handle u need to learn how to ride
no one care about your worries !!!.
i trust Korean production.
I buy that name brand. No problem yet
The shinko 777 it's a great tire.
Yeah you're riding a couch anyways LOL
Through this video, I came to know, the process of making tires. I think it's just the rubber being pressed. In reality, the process of making new tires is quite long. Very educational videos.
I am amazed at the machines that engineers design and experts manufacture to make the things we need. Truly remarkable.
Que trabalho maguinifico!!!!

Handbooks use to be a joke I thought, but not today
These tires are nowhere close to pilots…

Thank you for uploading the video. It was helpful. Watching the video, I felt that it was a very dangerous task because there were many rotating machines.
Be safe.
I use this company's tires on my ktm 990. It runs great in summer and winter all the time. Until a few years ago, the rating was very bad, but after the technical alliance with Yokohama Tire, the rating is good.
oh
I have a business repairing motorcycles, mostly older ones. I use to use Dunlop 404 for standard applications but they'd come back weather-checked after only 1 year. I started using Shinkos and usually recommend them first as they've held up well and perform great while being reasonably priced.
Awesome video 🙏🏻😃
I just had a big grin....wait what? thanks workers for you skill in you trade! We moto riders appreciate you very much!!!
Now I understand why my motorcycle tires cost so much. I'm glad I only have to replace them about every 3 years
You mean now you know why they are so cheap and good quality
Very nice your video 👍😁❤❤

I could guess that by how much stunt abuse these tyres undergo once they are out
Shinko are actually pretty good tires.
I LIKE how they...
throw all the raw ingredients in, without even taken them out the bags.
They just get mashed up with rubber. Once, a worker fell in the hole and the same happened to him. They can't stop the machine 'cos the rubber sets, so they just have to keep going. I guess there's a few people who've been riding around on that poor guy.
The plastics determines how long the rubber will last
That factory must smell amazing. Love the scent of new tires.
I work for durex and the is really nice
For me this is first video which showed end to end bike Tyre manufacturing assembling and driving . 100 marks for this channel .
Interessante!
Parabéns,pelo trabalho de vcs!👏👏👍👍
