@@alexanderl9985I am not sure about that. He has talked about moving up after he is done with the 1500 through 5000 and becoming an undisputed GOAT. I think he is tired of the drama.
Best interview of Jakob I have seen. It was rational, adult, interesting, and "fact based." It touches on this idea that T&F should be like MMA to somehow make it more exciting, and put butts in seats. But Jakob rightly puts that notion in check. As he said, it is about running fast, rivalries, competition, sportsmanship. As for me, I say if you need some bells and whistles in addition to the sport itself, then maybe you're not really a track fan. And for those who say the sport is boring, well, go watch hockey.
Second time hearing him say he has been focusing on mileage and has not been focusing on speed that much...or perhaps until recently. I believe him when he says he doesn't know where he is at. I also believe him that he will continue to get faster over the season. Tomorrow we will know how fast he is tomorrow :)
@@karolina.321 It is possible but he does not feel like he has that kind of personality. Who knows? It would be amazing to see him break everyone. Personally, I would love to see any of the top talent have a huge day.
Jakob seems very honest and just says what he thinks in a blunt way and that's rubbed Josh off the wrong way. I feel bad for him his body language in the conference looks like he doesn't like all this media attention and wants to just compete.
You are absolutely correct. A additional factor could also be to the language barrier. While Jakob can speak English perfectly, he may seem blunt because he’s being as straightforward as he can.
Wrong. Perhaps if Jakob had respected his opponents rather than being arrogant and showboating, then maybe he wouldn’t have rubbed Josh up the wrong way. Josh hasn’t tolerated it and bit back.
@@josephgonzalez_quite possible, he was quick to showboat in the worlds semifinal but when he lost the final , rather than just congratulate the winner , he had to say he wasn’t feeling right . That may or may not be true but either way , say nothing about it , congratulate the winner and move on
You might have asked as a follow up to "do you have a preference to the pace?" is if he expects to do most of the work as he usually does or if he'll let others do the work and he can take the burden off him.
Very subdued Jakob. I don't think the Viking is going to win tomorrow. God bless him for showing up while admitting he is not where he would like to be (training wise).
this is not gonna be jakobs year he hasn’t raced in many months, he’s about to be a father which means he will not get any sleep, and josh kerr showed in indoors that he is different
It's gonna be a helluva race. Anywhere in the top three is a success. Best lineup for a mile ever, no? Sure there used to be the heady days of British running in the 80's, but never was there ten legit contenders toeing the line in one race as is the case here.
Jakob doesn’t seem to like the way things are going with media and athletes sledging him. I agree it’s not the right direction to mirror MMA and try to sell tickets this way. Hobbs said it well on Coffee Club Pod that he loves that the sport is so friendly and inclusive and he doesn’t like trash talk. I think Jakob is best to say openly that he doesn’t like it and we should just focus on racing and then he should not say thing like he could have beat Kerr blindfolded, because Jakob is trash talking just as hard.
4:26 this ☝️ Nobody listens to kerr when he was 13:0 losing against jakob He lost one race last year and all keyboard warriors talk smack including Kerr
Have to say I can understand why Kerr gets on his nerves. Now Kerr might be trying the old Mohammed Ali tactic of throwing shade to get inside his competitors head. These 2 should go for Beer and Pizza after the Olympics as its pretty petty stuff. If someone other than them wins the Olympic 1500m they will look foolish. Have seen both running live and they are SO special
The fact that Jakob's dad is facing years in a Norwegian prison, kind of puts the whole thing in perspective. Kerr comes off as crass, and apparently a coward (aka b****) because he never said anything to Jakob's face.
I agree, I think Hobbs can kick off a fast pace, not sure if Beamish can kick off a fast pace as well as Hobbs. But remember everyone talked about Beamish’s kick to win indoor 1500 but TRP showed that Kerrs final 200m in the 2mile was actually faster than Beamish’s stunning finish. Kerr will be hard to beat whatever style of race. Still hoping Jakob is in form though as I’m a huge fan.
I really like Jakob, I've rooted for him for some time. But truth be told, he did have an ego issue. He has won so much that he was acting invincible. He was beginning to look narcissistic. If he didn't see it, then he lacks self awareness and surrounds himself with yes men. So if the conflict has brought him down to earth a bit, that's good for him and great for the sport. Unfortunately, the fact that he's calling Josh a coward suggests that his ego is still not in check and his team members are not honest with him. Or perhaps they also lack self awareness. As a public figure, Jakob should be able to take any criticism from a distance. No one owes him a face to face confrontation. The demand for face to face confrontation is merely a defensive trope. Whatever anyone says about him, whether to his face or not, he should take it like a man, let it slide off his back, and move on. He is too good of an athlete and too valuable of a man to give this conflict situation another minute of his time. Hopefully he races so well that his performance will speak louder than this interview.

Ummm, you need more facts. Start off with the fact that he's a mature person with principle, as in why didn't Kerr talk to him mano a mano? Secondly he's newly married, which changes a guy. Third he was injured. Fourth, his dad is facing years in prison for physical abuse of one of the family members. Kerr is B.S. The whole salacious narrative has been cooked up by Citius Mag because they are immature and desperate.
Great interview. Galling lack of insight shown by Jakob with regard to his behaviours. The lack of sportmanship shown after his 2nd world champs loss was predictable but nonetheless incredibly poor. Storming off without acknowledging Josh demonstrated his lack of class to the world. His subsequent media sour grapes has been embarrassing and will ultimately be to his disadvantage. I agree that Josh is firmly "in his head". I hope whomever the victor is tonight gets shown the level of sportmanship that we all love about athletics.
He is intelligent and careful with his answers. His transparent demeanor is great.
