My Mom had a voice like this and sang at Garfield High School in Seattle, Washington. 1945. She made a one-sided vinal recording that I played on my phonograph. Speed was 78. She is 90 years young.

The microphone was used due to alteration's of the surrounding acoustic's from the stage set design of that of a fish bowl, which muffled the "Diva's" voice. Yet the diva adjusted after a couple of seconds and just like that of a professional she continued to hold it in her hand even as it was not needed, this was a "new design set" yet for opera and its acoustic's it was too wet. As for Renee Fleming nothing stands in her way as its a most lovely rendition.
if you think this is good, wait till you hear the rendition of the same song on her dvd "Sacred Songs> taped at Mainz Cathdral, Germany, that is the best of the best 'Ave Maria" and no one soprano so far could beat her performance of that concert !

A voice from heaven. However, looks tacky using a microphone. Her voice doesn't need one. That being said, she is without a doubt, very beautiful.
