Islam means submission, humbling oneself, and obeying commands and heeding prohibitions without objection, sincerely worshipping Allah alone, believing what He tells us and having faith in Him.
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Tâghût and believes in Allâh, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (256)
Islam is fascinating. I believe it is the one faith that transcends nationality, ethnicity and tribal affiliation in a way that is cohesive and powerful. I found that Islam has four meanings: peace, submission, surrender and safety. A Muslim is one who gains peace and safety by surrender and submission to God. I found that the reason Muslims face towards the Mecca is that it is believed that the Kabba (that black cube structure in Mecca) was built by the original progenitor of the human race. Adam. Thus, it holds that as a unifying factor. The other point on why Muslims face towards the Kabba is actually quite deep. When you join a new company or have a new level in school primary 2 to primary 3 or sec 2 to sec 3 you always have orientation. Orientation is to let us know what is our purpose and functionality in that work place or school. So when Muslims face towards Mecca it shows that their lives are oriented towards the sacred. The other point is direction. In the English language a synonym of direction is guidance. Thus, it means Muslims have a sense of direction, guidance and purpose in life. As opposed to those who do not have a sacred orientation, they may not have a sense of direction, guidance and purpose. Quite profound really.

This is my favourite verse in the Quran ☪ O believers! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet without permission ˹and if invited˺ for a meal, do not ˹come too early and˺ linger until the meal is ready. But if you are invited, then enter ˹on time˺ . Once you have eaten, then go on your way, and do not stay for casual talk. Such behaviour is truly annoying to the Prophet, yet he is too shy to ask you to leave. But Allah is never shy of the truth. And when you ˹believers˺ ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him. This would certainly be a major offence in the sight of Allah.
My favorite verse is 2:255 "Allah! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? He ˹fully˺ knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them, but no one can grasp any of His knowledge-except what He wills ˹to reveal˺. His Seat encompasses the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not tire Him. For He is the Most High, the Greatest."
Islam means submission and in the religious contexts it means submission to the will of Almighty Allah. The first pillar of islam and most fundamental teaching of islam is : "There's no god but Allah & Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" We deny all divinity associated to anyone except the divinity of Allah alone. Why do we face Makkah in prayer? Because it is where the Qiblah(direction of prayers) is, the Empty Building in Makkah covered with black pure silk ,the Kaabah is the Symbolic House of Allah. We face it as a sign of the Unity of all Muslims worldwide in worshipping the One True God, the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.
