How to Pressure Wash a Metal Roof Pt1 Clean a Surface BEFORE Stepping UP!

- This is where soft washing won't quite work in this industry. What I'm doing here is cleaning enough of the roof before I step up to finish. When cleaning a metal roof, you always have to be standing on a clean surface or you will slide off. If the angle is too much then a harness is necessary. Thanks for watching!
Your breathing heavy you appear out of shape get a job
Every word you said makes no sense. The gopro is mounted on my chest, this is Florida, it was 96 that day. I own this business, I don't need to get a job. I don't even need to work at all. I've been in this business longer than anyone I've found on RUclips. If you're confused about what's going on in this video, just ask. I promise I know more than you about this kind of work. Thanks for watching

I just had my roof put on 8/29/24 so it is new right now. Thanks for creating and sharing this video. When the time comes for cleaning, I would feel uncomfortable doing this myself for fear of sliding off and falling. I am in my 60s and I don't need anything broken or injured or worst case, end up dead from falling trying to DIY to save a few bucks (LOL). I do wash the exterior vinyl siding of my mobile home with my electric pressure washer, but my feet are planted firmly on the ground, (LOL again). My question is can you hire a professional when the time comes to do this? I would also be afraid of possibly denting my panels not knowing where to step. The metal is .29 gauge steel with furring strips underneath. I used to get up on the roof when I had shingles and clean fallen debris like pine straw and leaves, but I am not comfortable even doing this on metal. Can you advise, please?
@@boomerang6130 hey man, absolutely u can get a professional company to do this for u. That's what I'm doing here, this wasn't my house. As far as your roof having this strips underneath the metal, I would advise not using someone over 150lbs and to only walk where the strips are. Otherwise u may have to go the more expensive route of hiring a company to bring in a lift as well. But if they're small like me and know what they're doing it can be done.
@@aquacleaning4994 OK, thanks for your reply. Many video creators don't ever come back to answer questions. Kudos to you man and have a great Labor Day.👍👍
@@boomerang6130 no problem, good luck and be safe. Same to ya!
Recommendations for surfactant for metal awning?
For those who don't understand the process of cleaning a metal roof, the cleaning solution is applied first, then a spot must be cleaned before you step foot onto the roof or you WILL slide off! Once a comfortable spot has been cleared, you can step up and finish as demonstrated here and in the next video. If there's too much angle on the roof then a harness tied off is necessary. Thanks for watching!
What did you sprayy
Can you please tell me how many PSI that is? Thank you.
Do you mind sharing how much this typically cost? I have a 900sqft home and this is exactly how mine looks.
It’s usually anywhere from 600-1200
I’ve heard chemicals are not recommended for Galvalume coated roofing. My obstacle is the 8/12 pitch while only pressure washing it.
Not sure if u got the job done or not but go to lowes or home depot and get yourself a harness and slide locker and an extra 100 ft of climbing rope or so. Then tie it off to your truck or something that won't move. Make sure to keep the slack tight on your slide locker as u move side to side or you'll end up with too much slack in ur line and fall off if u slip.
@@aquacleaning4994 Thanks for the advice. Soft shoe soles would probably help prevent slippage, at least where it’s dry.
@@Ojb_1959 any shoe with a vibram sole or flat bottom with no tread sticks to metal the best. They also make shoes with foam pads u can replace but i dont like those
Do you only use the wand? I know some use a surface cleaner. How do you clean the steeper pitched roofs?
I've actually cleaned quite a few metal roofs with a surface cleaner, I could have used one on quite a few parts of this roof I just didn't. If the entire roof were to be as steep as the top half then I would use my harness and tie off. I will try to make a video next time i do one. In the second part of this video u can see where I have a 12ft extension wand to do the top part.
AQUA CLEANING Thanks for replying
@@dfingerz you're welcome, you can ask away. I don't mind answering questions
What are you putting on your J rod? Or what kind of tip is that?
I think it was one of the adjustable tips I have. I was just swapping out the chemical tip with a 40 degree tip
Doesn't it damage the metal roof?
Not at all, as long as it's not already rusted through or anything haha.
😱 how much psi did you use? I currently own a pressure washer with 1500 psi
1800
So the pretreatment is what turned the color red?
Yes, it lightens up the black algae which sometimes tends to turn that redish/pink look after applying the pretreatment. Also, I have applewash mixed in with most of my cleaning solutions so I can see where I'm at. Thanks for the question!
I'm in SC and we have a lot of mobile homes here with lower pitched roofs to flat. Not sure what mixture to use especially on a older roof. I seen where you mentioned bleach and Apple wash. What is Apple wash? What is your ratio?
You don't have to have apple wash, it's only soap. You don't ever want to use bleach. You want pool chlorine. U can just add dawn or gain to ur chlorine if u need it to stay on the surface longer but it's NEVER actually needed. I usually run straight sh through my injector. If that's not enough to clean it then a pump up sprayer or 12v pump is what u need. I typically stick to 60% water to 40% chlorine if it's in a pump up sprayer but if that doesn't do it go straight. Just try to figure it out on your own things first. Good luck
can it peal off silicon roof coatings too?
I'm not sure what u mean.... U might need something like a turbo nozzle and possibly a special cleaning solution to get silicon off but again I'm not sure what you're talking about.
The end result looks awesome. I know nothing about this stuff only what I’ve seen on RUclips. You are there he only one I’ve seen using pressure on a roof even metal ones. . Every one else sprays sh on it and then rinses. Do you use pressure on all metal roofs or is this one just a particularly bad one?
I typically always use some pressure when cleaning metal roofs. I run my machines around 1800psi though. That's my residential setup and I don't usually need much more than that until I do commercial jobs which I use my bigger unit. The ones who disliked the video deleted their comments. They thought I was going to clean the whole roof from there like that lol. Thanks for watching, and questions, feel free to ask away.
AQUA CLEANING great thanks love the attitude
Nothing like doing the hard way ! Wow
Not sure what u mean unless you're one of those guys that believes this would come clean by just soft washing it from the ground. Sure, it will look better but it won't be clean like this because I'm removing the oxidation as well. Anyone that thinks removing oxidation is hard doesn't know what they're doing.
Thanks for the video
I understand you, I literally did this last week. 1000 Sq Ft roof, I had no choice. Stay strong and get that $$$
Good to hear u were able to get it done. If it was a dirty one like this, you know that all the guys who "soft wash" from the ground never get it this clean. I've been called to clean thousands of roofs right after ppl went with the cheaper option of just spraying shit up on the roof.
Z
What kind of pretreatment do you use?
It's typically a mixture of chlorine and apple wash
@@aquacleaning4994 Love the video, but have never heard of "apple wash." Could you kindly explain what it is/where to get it?
@@stangohr just google it and pick a place to purchase it from. Again, u dont have to use it, it just has a red die in it so u can see where you're at and it a soap so it helps the chlorine stay on the surface longer.
Is apple Wash vinegar and water or an actual cleaner?
@@bradprime9573 It's a soap with a red dye in it so u can see where u layed chlorine
Do u use bleach to clean the roof ?
Thanks buddy looking forward to see more
Totally wrong way to clean a metal roof. Thats painted. So easy to clean and I’ve done many with a 12v.
@@RickBartlett-x1o lol 12v "soft washers" are the worst thing this industry has ever seen. They're great for adding more chlorine to concrete or real dirty things but if u do it the way you're talking about, it just turns the shit white and looks clean. Sof wash guys are the lipstick on a pig to this industry. Thanks for your uninformed opinion though. I've been in this industry since 98 btw
@@aquacleaning4994 I’m sorry but you’re uninformed and don’t understand the process in place. I have roofs I’ve done over two years ago and they still look brand new. Guys that downstream or use pressure on metal are the dumbest I’ve ever seen and those are exactly the ones that leave the metal oxidized and leave chem on the tin. This video is exactly how you do not wash a roof. You will get people hurt and damage peoples property. I’ve know guys like you during my career that say they’ve been doing it for “so many years “. It’s just that…..well you’ve been doing it wrong for that long. Do some research. You don’t wash any roof with high pressure. Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.
