I’m socially distancing with my children, my husband is currently at work but he works outside and comes straight home after work. I talk to my parents via FaceTime even though they live just round the corner from me. I check on two elderly neighbours but am now standing at their front door to see if there is anything they need. We walk the dog in an open field away from people. If you job isn’t essential why can’t everyone do this? We HAVE a duty to our fellow human beings to protect one another.

Dr. John. First and foremost let me say how much your videos have helped me through all this. I look forward to your videos on COVID19 everyday.
I live in Connecticut in the USA. Local government has issues all sorts of rules to keep the public safe. From closing non-essential businesses to closing schools and anything and everything in between. I am considered essential, as I climb communication towers for Public Safety and cell phone companies (communications), while my wife is a PCT/UR at our local hospital in the ICU. So we are exposed. However we are also doing what we are being asked. My kids haven't left the house for at least the last 10 days. Only one of us goes out at a time for any food needs, and we are staying away from crowded places. However when I don't see my fellow HUMANS doing the same thing, its infuriates me. My children's education, time with their grandparents and friends are being sacrificed. Yet I see a young couple out and about with their BABY as if its OK. Or kids out playing with friends. All this sacrifice will mean nothing if we don't all take it serious. Don't even get me started on the kids in Florida....
However, I know plenty of people who are listening and are trying to save lives. I drove through Hartford CT on Friday last week at 4:30 in the afternoon and it was a GHOST TOWN. Which is good. But we need to do MORE!
My Dad is diabetic and also has had a quintuple bypass. He is one of the millions of reasons I'm being smart and my kids are being smart. You have such a good platform for people to listen. Please continue the good work and spread the good word. We can fight this enemey and we can win. We are all humans!

But his saying that the US came to the party late is factually incorrect. President Trump, in late January, placed a travel ban on China and implimented forced quarenteen for returning Americans; for this he was called racist by many including Sleepy Joe Biden! I'd say Europe came to the party late. Italy was warned by China not to follow Americas ban and they did as China instructed, the rest is history. This guy is smart and his information is usually spot on, but on this point he is terribly wrong. President trump protected Americans and on this point there is no doubt. Now the CDC testing is another story.

I separated from my wife a year ago and since then I've been seeing my children, 7 and 5, twice a week. Since the separation I have lived with my elderly parents and during this crisis my children have continued school because my wife is a 'key worker' here in the UK. I speak to them on the phone but I am preparing for the possibility that I might not hold my children for months... So I am self isolated for this reason. For the good of society at large of course but mainly for the protection of my parents. It's incredibly painful but necessary to get us through this.

It's so hard. I'm a young woman who works in the medical profession (intensive care). I am so afraid of coming home and spreading the virus to my family if I were to acquire it. It's always on the back of my mind. Some of my colleagues are temporarily staying in hotels because they are afraid of going home to their families as well. We are starting to get more COVID-19 suspected and confirmed patients. I will have to decide on what to do soon. They have come out with testing that will produce faster results and testing that will let us know whether we and patients have developed the antibodies that will protect us against this virus (which would suggest that we would have already had the virus). If we can get that soon at the hospital where I see patients, it would be a game changer. Hang in there friend. This will all pass. I will never forget it though. ❤

He's fine now, but I called my doctor's office at KAISER PERMANENTE. Even with my son being very ill, I don't have a fever or cough, so no test for me. That is so stupid. I work in the public part of the week. While I am careful and I stay distanced from people, I could be spreading this thing if I happen to have it. But we'll never know. I am 59 years old, too. So if I get what my son had, that's gonna be worse for me than it was for him. I have no preexisting conditions, but whatever... I am a little concerned. I went grocery shopping yesterday- first time I’ve gone into a public place in 2 weeks. I was able to get what we needed, thankfully. In the self-checkout, a worker was directing people to use sanitizer and tissues when using the touch screens. An older (60 ish) woman spoke up and said “I’m not worried about this, it’s just the flu. The media is making everyone panic for no reason.” The sweet young worker engaged her in a kind but firm conversation to try to convince her otherwise. Unfortunately some people in my area (east coast US) are still denying the seriousness of this virus. The ones in my immediate circle of friends and family ARE following recommendations though, which is encouraging.

@@aditya-ml6km The overriding factor is aging itself (risk of diabetes and hypertension rises with age). Thymic involution (atrophy of the thymus gland) begins in childhood and becomes noticeable at age 50; there's not much left at age 80. The thymus gland is where T cells mature and 'learn'; loss of the thymus causes a reduction in adaptive immunity. The innate immune system also becomes dysfunctional - which is a factor in the development of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome; specifically impairment of AMPK signalling seems to be involved. There have been efforts in recent years to develop rejuvenation treatments and there has been a successful trial of a treatment that partially regrew the thymus glands of a small group of 50-something males; the treatment unexpectedly also caused the subjects' epigenetic profile to become more youthful. More trials are in progress. singularityhub.com/2019/09/17/the-first-evidence-that-drugs-could-turn-back-the-clock-on-our-biological-age/

I live in Texas and am appalled at our testing. I thought the CDC was finally going 5o start aggressive testing, BUT. . . In a new conference by our governor Abbott, on the lack of testing said " Everyone who needs a test will get one, and the ones who need a test are the ones showing symptoms"! That is The reason the infected numbers are so low in our country, they are only testing those that show symptoms. I think they are doing more testing I. The areas with high numbers, like New York, but everywhere else, no! Reported cases in the U.S. at 2 pm on Monday are showing almost 35,000. And with testing only being performed on those showing symptoms mostly.

Why would you want to waste medical resources during a pandemic by seeking a test if you're (1) not even sick; & (2) haven't been exposed. No medical system randomly tests healthy people for covid. I encourage you to watch one of NY Gov Cuomo's updates. I practice in NY & we're testing at a higher rate than any country ever has, including China & SK. Our tristate area has tested more people than the rest of the US combined. In Texas you shouldn't be far behind. ThermoFisher has 2000 locations nationwide & got approval for their tests last week, & I believe several other private labs have, as well. Don't believe the garbage about "US is slow to start testing." It's just not true. China wasn't testing until nurses were literally dropping dead in hospitals & they still tried to cover it up. But no system has tested people who weren't sick & weren't exposed

@@scarlet8078 What WAS needed (we're way past that point) was to quarantine and test all contacts of known cases. If any of them test positive within 2-3 weeks (with or without symptoms), then do the same for all of their contacts, and so on. Along with that, randomized testing of respiratory patients, even if they also have the flu or some other confirmed disease. This would help to intercept community spread.
Two problems for the US: First, the CDC's original test kits were flawed so we had almost no testing in the first critical weeks of the outbreak. Second, the tests require specialized chemicals that can't be produced fast enough for adequate testing at the scale it's needed now. This is why containment is now impossible and they're trying to "slow the spread" so only 1 million will die.

I am so sick of people saying it's a hoax or conspiracy perpetrated by government. All governments? Like they all got together and said, "Hey, I know. Let's crash our economies and bring all our people to their knees. Let's expose first China to a killer virus and then let it spread." That is really dumb. As for the hoax or the lax attitude I see in a lot of young people here in my very own home, even after my son got really sick for almost a week, I am tired of it. One told me last night that he is being careful, but this thing is only affecting the very old and infants. I just stared at him. I said finally, "So it's okay to spread it then? Like you're okay with spreading it to an elderly person or a baby and they die. Yes?" He sort of chuckled and said he understands what I'm saying but he's not hiding under a rock. Oh, okay then. "Enjoy your Coronavirus then..." I said as I walked away.

I look forward to the day Dr John says 'the curves are all going down the other side now.' I have diabetes but quite well controlled & am self isolating pretty strictly so I do hope I survive to hear those words. I am working on ideas for a celebration. Thinking of making a cake from ground Almonds & dancing round my lawn wearing all my Christmas decorations.
Maybe it would be good to promote the idea of celebrating that day, in safe ways, as it would give us all something to aim for & look forward to & we could have other aims progressively. This would help us remember that this is not going to go on forever, which would help us to feel a little better & can actually help people to keep to restrictions. If something feels like it might go on forever it is harder to stick to special measures, especially for younger people because everything feels like it is going on a lot longer to them.
It is no good tut tutting about people not sticking to restrictions, particularly young people. Though I absolutely agree we all have to comply & everyone should, it really is necessary, what is needed is to promote ways of thinking that will help people to comply.
We need to help people psychologically.

@John Smith What we are experiencing is the revelation that lots of people are, emotionally, still immature and unable to confront life as mature adults. Sadly it means they cry for help from ‘experts’ and give all the power to Daddy Government to protect them from big bad monster virus. Time to accept our emotions and mature, we are the Parents now. We were still behind in some areas. For example, even though we knew that there were problems with cruise ships, passengers were allowed to leave one that docked in Akaroa and the passengers, including some who were infected, travelled around Christchurch and Akaroa. Whilst it's good we are doing the lockdown, we should've done tighter border controls much sooner than we did. But this is where people need to take personal responsibilty and not just wait until the authorities decide something.

One of them has a harder time of that and has called and keeps asking if she can come visit. We are both nurses but she is retired. I’ve been following guidelines exactly so I can avoid getting sick. I recognize in my friend a need to connect so I suggested rather than meeting in our homes we go on a picnic to a huge park where we live. This park is a couple miles long and never too crowded even at high use times so we can continue to avoid crowds. I told her we would take separate cars and bring our own food and we have to stay 6 feet apart. This is an example of changing behavior.

The one country I'd like to see Dr. Campbell notice and mention is my own one - Czech Republic. We've implemented measures like social distancing and free testing and so on reasonably early, and although mistakes have been made too, I'd dare say we can already see our curve of the number of cases flattening. And even with a 1000+ infected, our CFR is less than half of the German one so far, although we're similar to them in that many of our initial cases were relatively young and fit tourists.
So if he wants a European example that the measures he keeps proposing seem to work, we can offer one.

The last 4-5 days have seen growth in the range of ~5-600 new cases a day instead of 33% more each day. Does that mean that the measures in Italy might be just starting to work?

Here in New Zealand the Govt has established 4 levels of control , we are presently at level 3 : RESTRICTION :
Travel in areas with clusters or community transmission limited
    .Affected educational facilities closed
    Mass gatherings cancelled
. Public venues closed (e.g. libraries, museums, cinemas, food courts, gyms, pools, amusement parks)
Alternative ways of working required and some non-essential businesses should close
    .Non face-to-face primary care consultations
Non acute (elective) services and procedures in hospitals deferred and healthcare staff reprioritised
As of 11.59 tomorrow we go to level 4:
    ELIMINATE:
People instructed to stay at home
Educational facilities closed ( most are closed now )
Businesses closed except for essential services (e.g. supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics) and lifeline utilities
Rationing of supplies and requisitioning of facilities (if needed)
    .Travel severely limited
    Major reprioritisation of healthcare service.
Going for walks alone or with your dog is permitted but the 2 meter rule applies

I now work in retail (after burn out in health care..maybe a good thing now) in the middle of the USA. since we sell food items, and are one of few stores in this area, we are told to stay open. This voluntary ''social distancing'' is an absolute joke. Parents and their kids (who are now out of school to supposedly keep them from contact) are in, sometimes several times a day, .. touching everything. Older people are coming in complaining they just wanted to be around people because they are alone so they are just wandering only to not be alone.. the young people are gathering together and riding 4 wheelers now that they don't have school, there was a group of 8 to 10 of them hanging out at the gas station yesterday. I also seen golfers at the course yesterday. smh
This is going to be a situation where just lock it down mandatory or forget it, this is a joke. Now they are just gathering together in the few spaces that are open..sharing the same immediate air, touching everything, instead of spread out with sporadic contact normally. But once it will have to become mandatory because people are too arrogant, or in denial to stay home, then they will cry some illuminati conspiracy to impose some control. I even heard 2 women laugh in the store about the ones young son, who has asthma, wishing to wear a mask before going out as he is worried about getting this virus in his lungs..''mom'' says ''yeah he 's so gullible to the media.'' then they commence to say ''everyone knows now masks only make you more probable to get the virus.' ... I had to bite my tongue cause i was going to get fired ya know.
I never thought i could be this disgusted with people in my life.
