I didn't understand Kingdom of the Wicked either, there wasn't any enemies to lovers that everyone talked about. They helped one another and kissed once. Their chemistry was bland and I wasn't even sure what time period that book was suppose to be, it might as well have been set in NYC in the early 1900s
I adored The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and definitely wasn't expecting it to be so cozy. Nettle and Bone was also my first T. Kingfisher and it was just perfection. I just finished Belladonna and wasn't really expecting the conversations about grief. The book that surprised me the most was A Train to Moscow by Elena Gorokhova. It was a slow, sad book about a girl growing up in post -WWII Russia. I listened to it on audio from Libby in April and was so engrossed by it. It's the book I think about the most of the books I read. Also, my last book of the year was The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner and I want to thank you for recommending it here. I don't think I ever would've picked it up otherwise and I really enjoyed it.
I agree Half a Soul, The Very Secret Society, and Monsters We Defy were all pleasant surprises for me. Between Two Fires was one of my biggest surprises from last year. It was a 5⭐️ book for me with incredible writing, characters, and atmosphere. Happy reading.
Would so love a shelf tour! Have you done a video like that already? Also, I understand what you mean when you say you are surprised by some books. I sorta liked book of night, but sadly I did not like Piranesi, which so many people loved. I am excited to read Belladonna and I agree with you on T Kingfisher. My favorite book from her is wizards guide to defensive baking!! 😊
I really enjoyed Book of Gothel, can’t say it surprised me though because I got the recommendation from Elliot and she never steers me wrong 😆 I put Belladonna on my TBR after watching a video from a reader who didn’t like it and from her talking about it made me want to read it 😅 After hearing Elliot’s synopsis I am even more confident I will enjoy it! 📚 ❤
I haven't read any og the books mentioned in the video, but I've added some to my TBR. My most positive surprises were: - Hanna Jameson - The Last - Peng Shepherd- The Cartographers - S.A. Barnes - Dead Silence And the negative Suprise (disappointments): - Laura Dave - the last thing he told me - matt Haig - Midnight Library - Augustina Bazzterina - Tender is the flesh - Susanne Clarke - Piranesi
I’m very curious about Piranesi! Although I’m sorry it was a disappointment for you; that’s never fun. I’ve heard mixed things about The Cartographers, but it’s one I’m definitely still interested in 😄
I was very disappointed when I found out you didn't like Kingdome of the Wicked, but I've started to feel more like you now. I loved it in the beginning with the murder mystery part and now it's gone so far away from this (after book 2), that I really miss what it used to be. On another note, have you read any of the All souls trilogy? If yes, what did you think of them?
Kingdom of the Wicked was my worst read of 2022. I never knew which timeline we were in, all the princes felt identical to each other and there was zero romance/chemistry.
Kingdom of Wicked was... almost two different stories that she decided to mush into the same book. I'm with you, the beginning of the book was great! I loved it but then the transition happened and suddenly we're back in 'every tropey fantasy romance ever' territory and it was a letdown. Don't get me wrong, I like those stories when I'm in the mood for them. In this case, going from this intriguing historical fantasy parallel world that I wanted to learn more about to 'one of those places' was just... meh.
2022 surprised 1 Kingdom of wicked 2 half a soul 3 secret Society of irregular, Witches all are MY FAVORITE!! 📖💕📚📚💕📖💛📖💕💕💚❤️💚💙🌈🧡🧡💚❤️❤️💚💙🌈🌈💛💛📖📖💕💜📚📚📚❤️💚💙🌈📖📖💛
I persevered with the Kingdom of the Wicked series as I enjoyed the premise. There’s the odd point where it’s so bad, it’s good, however it was mainly just bad!
Are you trying to say you like "Urban Fantasy"? If yes me too. If no, sorry, I do ;) The Serrated Edge books from Mercedes Lackey, also her Diana Tregarde Books, Also should take at least a look at the series by Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books if you don't mind/like the vampire/Werewolf type genres.
I liked Warriors of the Wyld and Arrows for the Queen, also the newest mercy thompson novel by patricia briggs, all of us villains and the flawed duology, the last 2 are YA
I don’t know if you’re looking for recommendations for fantasy romance but an author I’ve liked a lot so far is Allison Saft. I think they’re well done, and A Far Wilder Magic is set in a fantasy world that feels like our 1920s but is very much fantasy which I thought was fun. I’ve also been really surprised so far by how much I really liked Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent. It’s a romance fantasy trilogy but there’s also a focus on the political landscape and fighting for a better world. I guess in keep with the theme of your video I was really surprised by how much I loved this one lol

I’m so happy you loved Belladonna Elle cause it’s my favorite book of 2022 and can’t wait for the sequel 📖😊 Happy New Year 🙂
Have you ever thought of starting a bookish podcast? 💕 I could listen to you talk books all day

Nettle & Bone will always hold a special place in my heart.❤

Bestie your hair🤩🤩
Nettle and Bone, though short, is a new favorite of mine. Half a Soul is up there too, for books I read this past year. So cozy!
Loved this video! Added some new books to my tbr I had written off and agreed with you on Kingdom of the Wicked...:/

Have you heard of the Lady Trent memoirs?
I love picking up books on a whim and being totally blown away.
