Right. In addition to the push itself being illegal under the rules of the day, Leinart's fumble on the previous play saw the ball go out of bounds 2 or 3 yards back without forward progress being stopped. So the spot should've been at the 3 or 4 instead of the 1. Still though, despite the loss, this is still the most fun I've ever had watching the Irish at my favorite bar.
@@oldfrend They honestly were better off letting Jerrett score. Knowing they would've had 1:20 left, all 3 timeouts, Quinn and Samardzija, not to mention USC had no defense that year, Notre Dame would've been the team that score with 3 seconds left.

I've watched alot of these but this is the first one I've seen where I didn't know the ending and it hits WAY DIFFERENT
This game single handedly changed Charlie Weis tenure at ND. He wins and who knows what the future holds. Sadly it was the first of what became many high profile losses, and unfulfilled promises. Also ruined my 18th birthday lol
I remember watching the USC dynasty when I was a young pup. Those were one of the most exciting years of college football I've ever seen. Reggie Bush was a walking highlight reel. Doing things you'd think is only possible in a video game
Winning one championship is not a "dynasty".
Reggie Bush, Devin Hester, and DeSean Jackson the most electric college players EVER. Mid 2000's and those ncaa games were 🤌🏼🤌🏼
Rocket Ismail and Johnny Rogers by far !!!!!
Deep dive into the Bush Push, well played Secret Base
As someone who only really got into college football in 2015 or so seeing these deep dives are very informative to get up on the history.
I was a junior in high school in Edmond, OK, preparing for our homecoming dance when this game was on. We were all waiting for our dates to get ready, watching the game in my gf’s house in her living room. When the ladies all came out to show off we didn’t even turn our heads because we were transfixed by the drive and the events that led up to the Bush Push. Memories 😂
I remember watching this game when I was a kid, it still haunts me as a Notre Dame fan. Great video as always! 👍
I thought this was the greatest game that I’ve ever seen! Until the game Texas vs USC that very same year !!
I really enjoy the CFB rewinders
"Southern California sun, my papa was a trojan, had to hit the Heisman, Reggie Bush flying flipping in the endzone, jersey number five, lucky number four"
At the time this was the greatest college football game I’ve ever seen 🔥
Then the Texas can usc happened that same year
You know what else needs a rewind. Duke vs UNC final four last year. Maybe post it in the March Madness season?
I think it’d be good to wait a couple more years to really let the aftermath of that game set in, especially since so much of it involves Hubert Davis’s rise and Coach K’s retirement. The narrative in hindsight will really depend on how Duke performs with a new coach over the next few years.
I feel like this year has had a lot of potential Rewinder moments haha. The Kelee Ringo Pick 6, Aaron Donald's sack on 4th and 1, that, Cal Raleigh's home run to break the Mariners' playoff drought, and probably a few more I'm forgetting
Definitely an important moment in that 2005 season, probably thr most important one for the regular season.
Now to continue my quest, still waiting for the final lap of the greatest swim race ever, the mens 4x100 freestyle relay at the 2008 beijing olympics
And the Vince young got all the infinity stones and that was that
It's such a shame Reggie's stats don't officially count anymore, because people forget he was the heart and soul of the USC offense for those teams.
lmao brother NO ONE has forgotten Reggie Bush. every time there is a conversation about the best players in college football history, he is the first name people bring up
Reggie will never be forgotten
Came down hard on SC because of Reggie Bush. Imagine if they would've investigated Bama that hard.
I was in end zone seats - row 28- watched it live. painful. But what a game! So many close plays went for USC. The IRISH outplayed them all night- or so it felt. I've never watched the game other than live at the "House" that night... and now this clip.
I was in that student section, rushing that field. My voice was broken from yelling all game. It was insanity.
But no comment that the Bush Push was illegal (at that time)?
Or that USC had no timeouts left when they were trying to call timeout after the fumble?
Zbikowski’s punt return is my favorite moment from this game
I remember this game like it was yesterday. I was in 5th grade and I was a huge SC fan. My first ever crush was a Notre Dame fan, and I remember the monday after this game I was talking so much crap to her. It probably ruined any chance of me ever dating her, but I didn't care. Truly a classic, one that I will never forget.
Bush is the best college RB I’ve watch play live.
Was definitely expecting the clip of Nick Cage shouting "I'm gonna do a little push in the bush" from Adaptation. Great vid
Dwayne Jarrett said he could only see out of one eye on that audible play which makes that entire final drive more wild
I’ve seen clips of this game probably hundreds of times now, and it still never gets old 😎✌🏼
FSU vs Florida 1994 - The Choke at Doak. Do eet.
Hahaha love that moment !
This was one of the best games I have seen to this day. Notre Dame should have won under the rules of the day. I hated that USC team and as we went on to learn they were no strangers to cheating
@@mwalsh47 3 or 4 yards wouldn't have mattered. would've just been a pitch to bush for a walk in. leinhart sneak was stupid anyway.
@@oldfrend They honestly were better off letting Jerrett score. Knowing they would've had 1:20 left, all 3 timeouts, Quinn and Samardzija, not to mention USC had no defense that year, Notre Dame would've been the team that score with 3 seconds left.
Blah blah blah. ND also uses forward progress too. USC didn't cheat anything. Stay salty.
@@hiphoploverjon9180 lol nope the only salt here is from the tears running down your face when that team was wiped from the record books lol
Isn’t it if the ball is fumbled out of bounds backwards the clock keeps running since his momentum technically went backwards?
The fact that this content is free is incredible
it’s always a great day when there’s a new rewinder
11:21 - the line judge running in signaling touchdown: Bijan Robinson's grandfather. Bijan watched this game, and Reggie is the reason he wears #5.
Nice video but you didn't explain the 'push' at all, for the uninitiated. I thought it was going to be about the controversy from that/Reggie Bush.
Hi there! Bay Area sports fan here. I wanted to give y'all some suggestions for Rewinder:
* The Catch
* John Taylor's catch in Super Bowl XXIII
* Last pitch of Matt Cain's perfect game
* Last pitch of 2012 World Series
Y'all are one of my favorite channels period! Keep up the great work! Thanks
Would love to see a vid deep dive on the 5th down game 1990 Colorado vs Mizzou
After the oregon state game where our oline pushed caleb williams across the 1st down line, i should've known this was coming lmao
The fact you don’t put Reggie as a heisman winner is crazy
Yeah, nobody does. But the Heisman Trust is in the process of giving it back to Reggie as it's being proven that the NCAA didn't run a proper investigation. I presume his stats and USC's wins will be reinstated following that decision.
This one would of been alot better if they showed more footage of the game and showed how they got to the score, field position, etc
Dude, you missed the most important part of the game. That final play was an illegal push and should have been called back. This push led to a rules change and helped paved the way for replays across the NCAA.
Maybe the only time I've ever rooter for Notre Dame
Won the BCS outright in 2004. RIP Auburn.
I’m so sick of hearing about notre dames history but I’ll still watch this because I love secret bases production
I've seen so many plays since with much more obvious and affective (and effective, nerds) pushes than this one but none garner the attention like this one did, almost like this play somehow legalized it
Best sports channel hands down...love you guys and would love to meet you and buy you a beer 🍺
Great video. I just found out that at this game, Notre Dame brought the real life Rudy to help bring the Irish luck.
Godfrey
Just here to say I’m adding this to my watch later playlist for when I’m off work
You guys fumbled the bag on this ending. You didn’t even mention how it was illegal to push someone in as a running back. You didn’t even mention the word push at all. Love your content but shame
I had just gotten a Moxi player from my cable tv company (basically TiVO) and I recorded this game. I rewatched this moment over and over and over again lol.
I remember watching this game Live. STILL A CRAZY GAME TO WATCH
Definitely. I still remember how nervous I was on this play (as a USC fan)
I remember this game. Such a great season & title game.
I got them up there with the Joe Burrow LSU team as the best.
Remember being 7 and watching this in a furniture store because my mom really wanted to look for couches this day lol
The narrator says that USC was lining up to go for the touchdown and wasn’t going for a field goal, but he missed that Carroll called for Leinart to spike the ball so they could go for a field goal. The fact that USC instead went for the TD caught ND off guard.
Happy Saturday y'all.
Most memorable college game for me. This game was epic.
From South Bend, IN, big Notre Dame fan, this one hurt more than any game ever for me.
Still the best game I've ever seen.
I remember this and crying. Then I woke up and didn’t understand why I was
The greatest college football game I had ever seen until the Texas-USC Rose Bowl a few months later.
I was at the game. The play happened so fast all I remember is the stadium PA announcing “Matt Leinart for the USC touchdown” and thinking what just happened?
Fight Irish!
I was 9 and living in South Bend when this happened. I remember this like it was yesterday. Everyone wanted Reggie’s head that day. 😂
My Irish catholic family living in the Southern California at the time tore itself APRART over this game. It was amazing.
the way u covered the ending was so anticlimactic
Please do a rewinder of Marlin Jackson's interception in the 2006 AFC Championship sending the Colts to the Super Bowl!!
Marlins got it!!!!!
